Qin Qinghuai slowed down and slowly drove into the residential compound.
"It's too late today. I'll go with you around in a few days when we have time, so you can get familiar with the area."
It's true that the area is sparsely populated. From the gate inwards, every courtyard in the residential compound is spacious, some with lights, and you can see traces of life inside.
Most of the space is empty, as evidenced by the rampant weeds growing wildly in the yard.
The car stopped in front of a yard on the side of the road. Inside, there was a dim candlelight. As soon as the two people got out of the car, two guards rushed out.
"political commissar!"
"Brother Huai, you're back!"
Qin Qinghuai took the bundle from Jian Dan's hands, nodded to the two of them,
"This is your sister-in-law."
This is Zheng Aiguo, and this is Qin Yi. You can just call him Xiao Yi.
The two of them immediately grinned.
"Hello, sister-in-law!"
The voice was so loud, like someone shouting slogans, that even those who were mentally prepared were taken aback for a moment before pursing their lips and replying.
"Hehe, hello everyone!"
Qin Yi has a baby face, and when he smiles, he has two dimples.
Zheng Aiguo, true to his name, is a man of similar age to Qin Qinghuai, despite being called "sister-in-law." He is a steady and tall man, a typical tough guy of this era.
"Go inside and take a look. We'll unload the truck and find the luggage first. We'll put the rest inside and pack it up tomorrow."
He stretched his arms briefly, glanced at the sky,
"I'll go with you. The sooner we finish unloading, the sooner they can go back and rest."
Before Qin Qinghuai could say anything, Qin Yi shouted that he refused.
"Sister-in-law, you don't need to. We'll finish this in no time."
"Alright then, thank you for your help."
With Qin Qinghuai around, she had nothing to worry about and simply carried her bundle into the courtyard.
You can tell that it was carefully tidied up; the yard is very clean, and the path from the gate to the house is paved with broken bricks, so even if it rains, you don't have to worry about getting mud everywhere.
The main house is directly opposite the courtyard gate. It's a size larger than the house in her small courtyard. It's the most common type of house in the residential compound, and it doesn't stand out much.
There was a small house on each side of the courtyard. They were both single-story houses without roofs, and the light made it hard to tell anything. However, I guessed that they were woodsheds and the lower room I mentioned earlier, which was used for storing miscellaneous items.
Inside the house, a kerosene lamp was lit. She walked around and saw that the house had a similar structure to the one in Liujiatun. There was a kitchen at the entrance, and a sizable bedroom on each side. It looked exactly like the layout of the house in her village.
The room to the west contains a sewing machine and a desk.
The room on the east side contained a wardrobe, a dining table, and a few chairs; everything was very simple.
The kitchen is quite large, with stoves on both sides, and the burners are all for large pots.
On the right side, near the outside, was a small stove with a small kettle sitting on it. Right now, the stove was burning brightly, and the adjacent room on the right was also filled with heat.
Walking into the kitchen, you'll see two small rooms, one on the left and one on the right. The room on the left has a dish rack, but it's currently empty.
The room on the right was empty; she guessed it was probably used to store firewood.
This is where she will live from now on. As she walked around, Jian Dan started to think about how to put all the things she brought with her. It was for the convenience of her future life. She was not sure if she could still cheat, so she brought all her things over in a big way. There were too many uncertainties in the future, and she did not want to make herself suffer.
When I came out again, the noise outside was quite loud, but I could tell that it wasn't just the three people from before.
Many hands make light work. Now there are only two sauerkraut jars left in the car. Jian Dan was stunned. So fast?
Quickly call out to Qin Qinghuai,
"Why were they all taken off?"
Qin Qinghuai's eyes flickered.
"What's the point of keeping it if you don't take it off?"
Simple and angry, she slapped him.
"Are you stupid? You can't eat the meat after it's been cut off."
Keep the venison, keep a small amount of the ribs and meat, and take the rest.
Qin Qinghuai turned his head and blinked. He had a vague feeling about this earlier, but since it was his wife's thing, he didn't make any big decisions. Now it seems that his wife's boldness is no less than his.
"You, are you really willing to do that?"
The sudden appearance of the large head and the man's somewhat unfamiliar aura caused Jian Dan's simple mind to freeze for a moment.
"What, are you willing to give up what?"
"Willing to give up..."
"Brother Huai, should we just put this big vat in the kitchen?"
Startled awake, Jian Dan realized that the two of them were quite close, their breaths almost mingling. Realizing this, she subconsciously took two steps back, feeling extremely uncomfortable. Fortunately, the light was dim at the moment, and no one else could see her except the person next to her.
Qin Qinghuai felt a pang of regret; he was so close, so very close, to kissing his wife.
"Brother Huai..."
"Alright, alright, alright. Put it against the wall in the kitchen. Be careful, it's your sister-in-law's treasure."
"Hurry up and get to work! Once you're done, your sister-in-law has something good for you."
It was the cheerful Qin Yi who responded first.
"Haha, Brother Huai, we're practically family, why is your wife being so polite?"
"Stop talking nonsense and hurry up. Come over here when you're done. This is a mission."
Jian Dan ignored them, went inside, took a rag and wiped the kang (heated brick bed) in the east room again, then took out all the bedding.
After a day of traveling, she had been sleeping in a daze all day. Now, she was starving, but had no appetite. Leaning against the warm kang (heated brick bed), she drifted off to sleep.
