Simplicity is the last thing she wants to see, and she's not much of a chatterbox either, so she simply picked up her bowl.
"If you're not going to eat, I'm going to have to. Please be polite a little longer, it'll be dawn soon. This meal has really made me tired and hungry, and it's a bit chilly tonight."
"That's right, we still need to use a heated kang (traditional heated bed) because the dormitory is getting a bit damp."
After chatting about everyday things, the three of them gradually relaxed.
"That's right, our warm kang (heated brick bed) is the most comfortable. After dinner, it's so warm and cozy, and then you can take a nap. It's so comfortable."
They had all had a lot of trouble, and even the simplest noodles were eaten very quickly. The others were about the same, and they even drank all the noodle soup clean before letting out a long sigh of relief.
As the group was packing up to go to the small courtyard across the street, they saw Xiao Hu rushing back, his forehead damp and steaming, his face full of anxiety.
"How is Xiao An? What medicine does she need?"
"Sister-in-law, sister-in-law, the army doctor said that if there is amoxicillin, that would be best. If not, penicillin would also be fine. Dr. Yang at the garrison has two vials of amoxicillin, but several soldiers have serious external injuries, and we are afraid of accidental infection, so we dare not send them over directly."
But Dr. Tang will be back tomorrow, and he said he'd see if we could try some traditional Chinese medicine. The political commissar told me to come over and ask your sister-in-law, and to let you check the medicines at home.”
Jian Dan frowned immediately.
"Amoxicillin? Penicillin? These aren't fever reducers, are they? Is Xiao An's condition serious?"
"The military doctor said that Xiao An has developed pneumonia,"
Even though I've never raised children, I know that pneumonia is a serious illness for kids.
"How did you get pneumonia? Wait a minute, I'll get you some medicine."
After saying that, he hurriedly returned to the east room.
Cheng Chao was also somewhat depressed. They were still too backward. Just one medicine had tormented the child so badly. If Jian Dan didn't have any medicine on hand and had to wait for Tang Sumei to come, the child would have been tormented all night.
"What happened over there? Why are people injured?"
Xiao Hu scratched his head. This matter couldn't be spread, but Cheng Chao was an exception.
"I don't know the specifics, but I heard the regimental commander mention it. Apparently, some people were still not giving up and launched a counterattack during recruit training by planting bombs, which led to the injuries of many people."
A fierce glint flashed in Cheng Chao's eyes. Some people really are endless. If we don't take drastic measures, they'll really think we can bully them.
"What exactly happened to Xiao An? What did the army doctor say?"
Xiao Hu was silent for a moment.
"Let the commander speak. This is his private matter. Xiao An got caught in the heavy rain. He's not in good health to begin with, and this all triggered his fever. He had a fever for two days. The medicine would bring it down for a while, but the temperature would rise again soon after."
"It's pneumonia now. The military doctor said if the fever doesn't come down soon, it could easily damage the brain."
Xiao Hu spoke with some difficulty, and the later parts seemed to be squeezed out. Some things are fine to listen to, and you can always have a detached attitude towards other people's affairs. But now, this child has been with him for more than half a year, and it's not much different from his own child. He feels very sad in this situation.
The simple footsteps at the door paused lightly. What the book described as burning someone into a fool—this must be what it meant.
Who could have imagined that the first time words became reality would be so cruel?
"Brother Hu, here are the medicines: amoxicillin, penicillin, and oxytetracycline. These are children's fever reducers. Take them all and give them to the military doctor. They're just sitting there anyway. If they can be used, it won't be a waste."
"Why!"
Xiao Hu immediately became so excited that he became incoherent.
"Sister-in-law, I, I'll take it back right away. Xiao An will definitely be alright."
Thank you, sister-in-law! Thank you, sister-in-law!
He walked so fast, staggering, that Jian Dan was afraid he'd drop the medicine box.
"Don't worry, if you need any other medicine, come find me as soon as possible."
"Okay, sister-in-law!"
Professor Wei and the others stood up, sighing softly.
"The child is pitiful, but this little girl is also a person of great righteousness."
Xiao Cheng, I'll take this job. Tell us about your plans tomorrow. It's already this late, and if we delay any longer, summer will be here soon. Time is running out.
After saying that, he followed Zheng Aiguo outside.
"Huh? Ah!"
Cheng Chao nodded blankly, only realizing what was happening after everyone had left. He grabbed Qin Yi to confirm.
"What did Professor Wei just say?"
"You say Xiao An is pitiful, but your sister-in-law is very righteous."
"Not this sentence, the next sentence."
Qin Yi scratched his head.
"He accepted the job and told me to tell him the plan tomorrow, and then to hurry up."
"What do you mean? He hasn't accepted the job yet?"
Two seconds later, Cheng Chao slammed his fist and palm together, his expression still showing some confusion and doubt.
"Could it be that he's figured it out?"
Qin Yi was completely baffled and didn't dare to ask any more questions.
"Company Commander Cheng, shall I go pick up Brother Huai?"
After a brief moment of realization,
"No need. It's just a few steps to and from get off work. He'll be back on his own. You've already gone through a lot of trouble. Do you want to go back to your dorm to rest, or do you want to squeeze in with him here?"
Qin Yi quickly waved his hand.
"Sister-in-law, I think I'll go back. Brother Zheng is across the street. I'll go find him, and we can go together. I'll come back tomorrow."
"That's fine then. Get some rest. I reckon they're all exhausted. They can't get up too early tomorrow, right, Company Commander Cheng?"
Cheng Chao also nodded.
"Get some rest. After all, they just arrived, and at their age, they need to rest and get used to things. Tomorrow's schedule won't be too tight, so don't be so stressed."
