"Political Commissar, Dr. Tang has been brought back!"
"Why!"
The sound startled the three people awake. Tang Sumei had already opened the door and come in. Jian Dan grinned and went to greet her.
"Second Aunt!"
"Second Aunt!"
"Second Aunt!"
After not seeing each other for more than half a year, Tang Sumei pulled Jian Dan around and looked him over several times. It seemed that he hadn't lost weight, but instead, he seemed to have gained a little weight.
"How is your married life? Are you satisfied? You look great, all rosy and healthy. It seems Qinghuai is a caring person. I can finally relax."
Having just been teased by Cheng Chao, and now by Tang Sumei, even the thickest skin would start to burn.
"He's actually quite good."
Tang Sumei had a good impression of Qin Qinghuai's family background and other people's impressions, but it was always different from seeing it with her own eyes. Now she was finally relieved.
"Second Aunt, are you hungry? Have some noodles first. Don't rush back this time. We'll have a welcome dinner for you tonight."
Tang Sumei smiled kindly. It's said that a mother-in-law's approval of her son-in-law grows stronger with each look, and this man who volunteered to cook was especially endearing.
"Alright, alright, no need to make anything special, Second Aunt isn't an outsider."
Qin Qinghuai didn't argue, pushed the bowl and chopsticks over, and turned to Qin Yi, saying,
There's more in the pot, go get some yourself.
The people in the room, especially Qin Yi, were truly like his brother Huai, openly displaying double standards without the slightest embarrassment.
Tang Sumei's smile never faded.
"Qinghuai, your cooking skills are really good. We Jian Dan are so lucky."
Qin Qinghuai smiled brightly, her simple face flushing again. Tang Sumei's tone of saying "blessed" inexplicably reminded her of some unspeakable scenes, but she maintained her composure, pretending she only understood the literal meaning of the words.
"He does all the cooking at home,"
Tang Sumei was surprised for a moment, then her smile deepened, though her expression became slightly stern.
“Then you can’t bully him. A family is for both of you. Qinghuai is considerate of you, but you can’t just spoil him because he dotes on you.”
Knowing that Tang Sumei was deliberately saying it for Qin Qinghuai to hear, Jian Dan felt a little guilty. It seemed, perhaps, that she had indeed bullied him.
As for Qin Qinghuai, it's unclear whether he understood Tang Sumei's meaning or was simply feigning ignorance.
"Second Aunt, you're right. We're husband and wife, and this home belongs to both of us. I'm a man, so I have limited time and energy to dedicate to the home. In that limited time, I hope to do as much as possible."
Actually, when you think about it, she's contributed far more to this family than I have. What I'm doing can only make up for it a little bit.
