Chapter 729 The Plan, After the Autumn Harvest

The little boy and Xiao An simultaneously lifted their eyelids and glanced at him.

"Third Auntie, you've made something delicious!"

"Sister made something delicious!"

Qin Qinghuai chuckled. Ever since Qin Heng arrived, Xiao An has practically lived at the Qin family home. Commander Lin has to pick him up after get off work every day. However, he seems no different from a normal child, except that he is a little quieter.

As Qin Ming and Qin Guan grew older, their speech became much more coherent.

"Third Uncle, we helped Third Aunt with the chores, and Third Aunt is going to cook something delicious for us,"

"Third Uncle, do you have any meat at home? I want to eat meat."

After Qin Guan began speaking, Qin Shao also mustered up the courage to speak.

"Third Uncle, I want to eat meat!"

He was usually very generous to them, and they weren't afraid of him at all. They dared to ask what they wanted to eat, though they were a little embarrassed. The two younger ones joined in the teasing, and Qin Qinghuai shook his head speechlessly.

"Don't you eat enough meat already? Why are you still thinking about it?"

He was always more lenient with these children, not to blame them, since the family wasn't short of food. He was just a little puzzled, though, since they ate meat every now and then, why did these children seem to be so greedy?

I looked around but didn't see the two big ones, which was strange.

"Where are the two older brothers?"

With such a big job, and it being the weekend, those two sensible kids couldn't possibly not come.

No sooner had he finished speaking than a series of "bang bang bang" sounds came from inside the house, like someone chopping meat.

"My brother is helping my aunt cook inside. Xiao An went to make a phone call."

Call up?

Qin Qinghuai didn't think much of it and stepped inside. He heard a sizzling sound, followed by a sudden burst of rising cooking smoke.

"It's already in the pot? Why didn't you wait for me to come back and cook it?"

As he spoke, he took off his coat, rolled up his sleeves, and went into the kitchen.

"Brother-in-law, you've been busy all morning, so don't lift a finger. You can try my cooking."

Qin Qinghuai didn't stand on ceremony either.

"Okay, I'll be waiting. Is there anything else I haven't done? I'll take care of it."

"I'll just make this one hot dish. My sister said she's tired, so she won't make too many. She'll just stew a big pot and stick some flatbread on it. It'll be ready in no time."

"That watermelon is for scooping out and plating, and that bowl contains the side dishes; all the seasonings are already in place. The persimmons are just chopped up and sprinkled with sugar. Brother-in-law, why don't you get those?"

The two men worked quickly and efficiently, bringing three plates of cold dishes to the table. The rice in the pot was also ready. Upon seeing this, Qin Qinghuai immediately smiled.

"Wow! They were just saying they were craving meat, and you've already made a huge pot of it!"

Cheng Rui smiled broadly.

"My sister said that everyone is exhausted this autumn and needs some nourishment, so she's cooking more meat so that everyone can recover properly."

"Is my sister still not back? Dinner is ready."

"Third Aunt, Grandma, Grandpa!"

Just then, Qin Heng's sweet little voice and the sound of footsteps came from outside. Soon, the old man and woman led a group of children in, with Jian Dan following behind.

"I'm starving! Let's eat!"

Several children excitedly rushed over.

"Oh, there's meat! Auntie made meat for us!"

"Wow! Third Aunt, Third Aunt, Third Aunt, you're so kind!"

"Sister, eat some meat!"

Before I even ate, I was bombarded with friend cards, and I couldn't stop smiling.

"Are you trying to confuse me so you can eat all the good food?"

The table was full of people, and it was quite lively.

With the joyous autumn harvest over, the military region immediately made its next steps.

The planned vegetable greenhouses were finally put on the agenda. Professor Wei and Professor Yu no longer had time to study the seeds or to look at the harvesters. They were busy again and even went with Cheng Chao to the garrison to learn from their experience. After returning, they began to conduct in-depth research.

At first glance, this thing doesn't seem to be very technically advanced, but temperature and humidity are indeed extremely important. It's a greenhouse, and in the Northeast winter, the most important thing to pay attention to is naturally the temperature. I don't understand these things, but being near the mountain, I don't have to worry about firewood.

Sure enough, after the autumn harvest, the families shifted their attention from their own homes to the nearby foothills, as the weather was getting cold and it was time to stock up on firewood.

It's especially cold here, so we naturally need to prepare more firewood.

The straw from this large plot of land wasn't wasted, but it wasn't distributed to the families. After all, it wasn't harvest time yet, and the straw and seedlings were still green. Some of it was kept as farmyard manure for research.

Another part, the straw can now be considered silage. Although the corn cobs have been removed, the straw, after being crushed and further processed, is still a good feed for pigs, cattle, and sheep. It is perfect for the current border military region.

Silage corn is corn made by harvesting the entire corn plant, including the ears, chopping and processing it, and then fermenting it to make silage feed. It is used to feed livestock such as cattle and sheep in winter and is very common in northern pastoral areas.

Corn silage can replace some complete feed, reducing breeding costs; the high-quality crude fiber and various vitamins provided by corn silage help maintain the digestive health of sows and improve their overall health; furthermore, processed corn silage can be stored for a long time, making it suitable for use in northern regions.

It can be said that from the start of planting to the autumn harvest, if the land is used well, there is no waste at all, which is exactly in line with their current situation and wishes.

However, compared to the plan, there was a lot more work to be done, which fell on Cheng Chao first. As the nominal company commander, he was always doing odd jobs. He had been running around since before the autumn harvest, contacting people, running to various factories to contact machines, raw materials, bookstores, libraries, and so on. He had almost dug out all his connections over the years, and even dragged Jian Dan to bring out the Sheng family to help.

Fortunately, we knew what he did, so we weren't afraid of being scammed by him; otherwise, the Sheng family would have run away long ago.

Sheng Zhiyuan was still shaken when he spoke to Jian Dan on the phone.

"Your brother is really ruthless, showing no mercy whatsoever. If I weren't an ally, I think I'd be reduced to nothing but ashes."

Qin Qinghuai stayed at home to oversee the arrangements, while Qin Yi was almost always on the road, picking up people, collecting things, and receiving supplies. He even missed the trip up the mountain, which he was most looking forward to.

The family members started busy collecting firewood on the mountain. Jian Dan followed Wang's wife and went with the crowd for a few days. Then, she lost patience. Since there was enough firewood at home, she started thinking about other things.

"Aren't there any mountain products here? I don't think you often mention going up the mountain."

In the village, picking mushrooms and digging for wild vegetables in spring and autumn, and gathering mountain products after the autumn harvest are almost fixed routines that villagers look forward to.

To put it bluntly, for hardworking families, the harvest they collect in just a few days is almost equivalent to half a year's worth of work. Jian Dan has collected quite a lot in previous years and traded with many villagers.

She only stopped after the cooperative was established and the convoy arrived.

"I remember hearing that you could go up the mountain when I first arrived?"
