Chapter 80 marks the beginning of a full-blown hibernation period.

A young man, with a tough appearance and expressive face, spoke in a pitiful and pathetic tone. Jian Dan almost couldn't help but laugh and quickly turned away.

Not to mention Cheng Jin's strange expression, even Liu Weimin blinked hard, trying to suppress the laughter surging up inside him. After all this time, he hadn't realized this kid was like this.

Cheng Jin was even more at a loss for words. Could it be that he hadn't seen his nephew for so long that he could no longer keep up with his progressive ideas?

He wasn't sure if his nephew had feelings for her or what, but what he said was true. It wasn't appropriate for a young girl to take him in, no matter what, he was a grown man.

Without saying a word, he shattered his nephew's fantasy.

"No, forget about it. Just come back with me."

Cheng Chao wasn't a child, so he understood everything. Seeing that his last struggle was futile, his shoulders slumped, and he stopped joking around.

"Hey, Uncle, why did you come so fast?"

At least let him have another free dinner!

Knowing him too well, Cheng Jin could tell what he was thinking just from his expression. He was so angry he laughed. He reached out to discipline the brat, but when he saw the boy's pale lips, unnaturally red face, and the frostbite on his hands, he ultimately didn't go through with it.

"Alright, hurry up and pack up and leave. Don't cause any more trouble for Xiao Jian, the educated youth, while no one is paying attention."

As darkness fell, the group arrived quietly and disappeared into the night. Liu Weimin waved and took his leave as well.

"I have to go back now. You should go inside. Call me if you need anything!"

But I still can't help feeling exhausted; this girl is just too much trouble.

"You should be careful, and don't sleep too soundly."

I couldn't help but chuckle.

"What's wrong, Uncle? Are you worried I'll run into this kind of trouble?"

Liu Weimin sighed.

"You tell me, haven't you done enough? The moment I hear you call my name, my heart jumps into my throat."

After a brief moment of reflection, although it wasn't her intention, the frequency was indeed a bit too high. Now that she thought about it, she felt a little embarrassed.

"Don't worry, Uncle, I'll be careful and try to avoid trouble. But if you come after me, don't blame me."

Liu Weimin shook his head and left with a sigh. After hearing this, he felt even more uncertain.

Once the door is closed, it's simply the freedom of being alone.

I tidied up the extra traces in the kitchen, and piled the corn stalks in the corner. The fire had been burning all afternoon, and the kang (heated brick bed) is still hot to the touch. Jian Dan didn't dare to continue burning it.

She had already raised the wooden trough at the end of the kang (a heated brick bed) twice that afternoon; otherwise, the vegetables in those troughs would probably have dried out by now.

Cheng Jin, who was leading the wounded back, was also speechless. On the way, he thought about trying to get some information out of his nephew to see what he was really thinking.

As a result, Cheng Chao spoke frankly and openly.

"Uncle, her family's food is delicious."

"You...you don't want to leave because of this?"

To be honest, Cheng Jin was surprised; this was a reason he never expected.

"Yeah, what else? Slurp... Uncle, what are we having for dinner tonight?"

Cheng Jin was about to make a move again. How could he forget that his nephew, who was known for his expressionless demeanor and silver tongue in public, was just a gluttonous child in front of him?

"I'll eat whatever the cafeteria makes," Cheng Jin thought for a moment. After all, he was an injured soldier, and he deserved a little bit of special treatment.

"I'll make you another meal for patients."

Cheng Chao was not in high spirits. He had eaten the food here before, and everything tasted the same. Thinking about the millet porridge and steamed egg custard he had eaten at noon, he regretted not eating more. He looked out the window and sighed.

As it turned out, he really didn't eat much that night. He just stared blankly at his lunchbox while holding his chopsticks, which made Cheng Jin even more curious.

"What's going on? Are they going on a hunger strike?"

"Uncle, you don't understand."

"What do I not understand? Only you do?"

You've only eaten one meal from someone and you're still holding a grudge?

Tell me first, what delicious food did you eat?

Cheng Chao spoke fluently and naturally.

"Millet porridge, steamed buns, eggs, and sponge cake."

Food is indeed scarce now, but the Cheng family is not in that situation. After all, they are a large and well-established family. Even if they don't provide such fine food every day, it wouldn't be difficult to meet their request, especially if it's for an injured person. Why are they so concerned?

"Is it really that delicious? You've been talking about it for ages."

"I don't know if it was just the taste of the dish, or if my situation at the time and my craving for food made me fantasize. I just remember that after taking a mouthful of millet porridge, I felt like I had been reborn."

After that, whenever I thought about food, my mouth would start watering uncontrollably, and the first thing that came to mind was the food I had for lunch.

Since he didn't understand, Cheng Jin simply put it into practice and tried again, since Cheng Chao was indeed a patient anyway.

Just like at noon, a bowl of porridge, a boiled egg, a vegetable dish, and a steamed bun were laid out in front of him. Cheng Chao was a little stunned. He took a bite before slowly starting to eat. Cheng Jin watched him finish eating before asking,

"How about it?"

Cheng Chao sighed directly, his disappointment undisguised.

"Uncle, the food tastes good, but it doesn't feel like lunchtime."

Cheng Jin didn't say much. His nephew was notoriously picky about food, and now he was really shameless for the sake of getting a bite to eat.

These people were all just passersby to Jian Dan, the kind of people she would almost never cross paths with again. After this heavy snow, Jian Dan completely began her hibernation.

Well, to put it bluntly, it's just giving up.

At first, things were fine, and my schedule was fairly regular, but after a few days, it completely fell apart.

The base has abundant entertainment resources, and the electricity is still working properly. With just a little relaxation, one can completely let loose.

Once you start watching these movies and TV shows, you can't stop.

Eight o'clock, nine o'clock, and then it dragged on until midnight, the latter half of the night. On some days, I even stayed up all night, and then fell asleep just as the sun was rising.

Sleeping during the day doesn't relieve fatigue, and after several sleepless nights with her days and nights reversed, Jian Dan finally realized something was wrong and decided to adjust her biological clock.

After several consecutive nights of staying up late, my biological clock has shifted several hours backward. I'm sleeping until almost noon every day, which means that by my normal rest time, around 8 or 9 pm, I'm full of energy.

I turned over; I wasn't sleepy.

I turned over, but I still wasn't sleepy.

He snored from one end of the kang (heated brick bed) to the other, then back again, making several irregular circles. The quilt and pillowcases were all rubbed and wrinkled, but Jian Dan became more and more awake.

Several times she almost couldn't resist thinking that she should just give up and be lazy, and she even reached out to take the tablet out of the base. But then she thought about how many mornings she had wasted and how many breakfasts she had slept through, and she pulled her hand back.
