Sun Jianhong's maternal love found its anchor; the little baby's voice tugged at her heartstrings, making her eyes light up. Without a word, she snatched the child away.
"Third brother, let me hold this girl. She's so sweet. I've been hoping for her all these years, and she's only given birth to two rascals. You two are so lucky!"
Qin Qinghuai felt somewhat helpless, then looked at his wife's expression.
"Second sister-in-law, it doesn't have to be like this,"
"How could it not be? Look at her, she's so soft and smells so good. Can that brat compare?"
Qin Qingze shook his head at them, a bitter look on his face.
To be honest, ever since her child left, Sun Jianhong has smiled less and less, and genuine smiles like this have become even rarer.
"Second sister-in-law,"
Jian Dan didn't reach out to hug the child, but pulled Sun Jianhong to sit down.
"Let's eat first, Second Sister-in-law. The children are hungry."
The little one sat in this unfamiliar embrace, blinking her eyes. Was she hungry?
Soon the waiter called out that the food was ready, and the two men went to bring it back. The little boy's eyes were no longer on his parents; he was still suspiciously babbling, pointing at whatever the dishes were and shouting them out.
"Seven! Seven seven!"
With her other hand, she vigorously patted her lower abdomen.
Sun Jianhong adored this little face.
"Alright, alright, which one do you want to eat? Your second aunt will feed you."
Sun Jianhong had raised two children herself, and she knew that the kids would only taste the food briefly, and once their excitement wore off, they would realize what she meant.
"Qingze, hurry up and make something edible for the child, like a steamed egg custard, otherwise she'll become slim."
Sister-in-law, what do you usually feed your child? Is there anything they can't eat?
Jian Dan thinks Sun Jianhong is great in this respect; she has a very good sense of proportion. She doesn't put on airs and make people feel distant, nor is she too close and annoying. She also speaks with tact. Just now, the first thing she said when she met Sun Jianhong was to thank her and apologize, not to mention the child she was most concerned about. In Jian Dan's opinion, putting aside other factors, Sun Jianhong has extremely high emotional intelligence.
With this kind of personality, it's easy to get along with them; they're simple and there's nothing wrong with them.
"Second sister-in-law, don't worry. She has a strong appetite. As long as it's not too hard or too salty, she can eat a couple of bites. She's willing to try it herself. Look, she's about to lean on the table in a minute."
Sun Jianhong looked down and saw that the little dumpling was sitting on her lap, but its little hands were gripping the table and reaching for the dish in the middle. Its little mouth was pursed, and it seemed that it was putting in a lot of effort.
Sun Jianhong was immediately overjoyed.
"Oh dear, is the baby hungry? Come on, let's eat."
"Ah! Seven!"
Simple and speechless, before coming here she had eaten half a peach, a small milk cake, two pieces of seaweed, and a piece of cheese.
If she hadn't witnessed it all herself, she would have suspected that the child was truly being starved.
Just then, the steamed egg custard she had made for the child was ready, and Sun Jianhong immediately transformed into a feeder. Qin Qinghuai reached out twice, but she couldn't take it.
"Just let your second sister-in-law feed her. Look how happy she is."
Third child, tell me about Mom and Dad. Are they in good health? Children, how are you?
This was something Sun Jianhong had been thinking about, but because of the baby, her attention had shifted considerably, and her tense emotions had eased somewhat. She was able to talk about it much more naturally now.
"Yes, third brother, haven't my two naughty boys caused you a lot of trouble? Let me tell you, you don't need to feel sorry for them. If they're disobedient, you, as their uncle, should discipline them, throw them around, or beat them if necessary."
"Don't worry, Second Sister-in-law, I'll use you when needed and give you orders when necessary, but don't feel bad when you see me!"
The little one ate bite after bite without crying or fussing, showing a great appetite. He nestled softly in Sun Jianhong's arms, and the smile on Sun Jianhong's face never faded.
"How dare you say that? Is he a little boy? If you don't train him, why are you keeping him like a little girl? Let me tell you, third brother, a little girl can't be so rough. You have to take good care of him. I was hoping to see the baby today. I had some soft cotton cloth saved up. I haven't been in the mood to do anything lately. Sister-in-law, take it all back and make some clothes for the baby."
She pointed to the bundle placed at her feet.
“I know you don’t need this, but this is a token of my appreciation as your stepmother, so you must accept it.”
"Qingze, do you still have any cloth coupons, snack coupons, candy coupons, or anything like that? Give them to me, let's go to the supply and marketing cooperative later. I haven't been there in a long time, I wonder if they have anything new. Let's go take a look."
"Second sister-in-law, no need,"
Sun Jianhong's state of mind now was completely different from when she first came in; she was excited, even a little hyper, and she was coaxing the child in a soft, gentle voice.
"Baby, your second aunt will buy you something delicious, okay?"
The little one patted his belly and let out a small burp.
"Full, seven, want seven."
"This child has a really good appetite,"
Simple wanted to cover her face. She had just finished eating, but she was already thinking about food. She was worried that someone might try to trick her out of her food in the future.
Qin Qinghuai was very pleased with himself.
"That's right. Whenever I'm home, I cook for her. She always asks me for meals. She really likes me."
Qin Qingze turned his head and looked at him.
"Third brother, you didn't always seem like someone who liked children,"
Sun Jianhong laughed along.
"It's not that he doesn't like children, he doesn't like adults either. Look at him, he's never smiled like that with anyone."
Qin Qingze looked him up and down.
"It really is true, third brother, what happened to you? You're all smiles, like a flower in bloom, tsk tsk!"
