"What do you mean? You've arranged for me to stay near you?"
"Yes, just now Brother Zheng led some people to clean up the house. It wasn't too close to me, a few houses away, but it was close to Lin Nan and the others, in that big courtyard."
I was just curious, so I asked. They said the person was almost there, and Qin Yi had already set off to pick them up.
"So fast?"
Jian Dan also used the armrests to sit up in the recliner.
"Didn't we just receive the notification? How come they're here so quickly?"
Ming shook her head. She had only asked because she saw someone enter the empty courtyard and Zheng Aiguo was someone she knew.
"I thought you knew. Anyway, it doesn't really concern us anymore. Although we were all sent-down youth, there are still differences now."
"Of course, you're teachers with jobs now. They'll probably come and work in the fields too, right?"
"Is that possible? Aren't we supposed to need educated people? Their arrival would be a good supplement, wouldn't it? They can teach kindergarten and primary school, right?"
He simply shook his head, his tone very certain.
"Don't worry, that's impossible."
"Our situation is very sensitive right now. In some people's eyes, they're practically a thorn in their side. Besides, there's never been a precedent for assigning educated youth to work in rural areas for border troops. And now, suddenly, it's happening. Tell me, is this just a normal policy for educated youth?"
"That's right. The army is not like the countryside. It has strict discipline and focuses on training all day long. In a normal army, there are requirements for the families accompanying the soldiers. This place is on the border, and everyone knows that the living conditions are so bad. So, they actually sent the educated youth here to work in the countryside?"
What were they thinking? It's only because we're not afraid of hardship and rely on our own efforts to reclaim wasteland and farm that we can do this. Otherwise, if the educated youth came, would they be able to stand guard, keep watch, or train with the soldiers?
In the countryside, I could at least do some farm work, and if all else failed, I could go up the mountain to dig up some wild vegetables and bring them over here. She simply stood up, supporting her stomach, and paced around the neighborhood.

After a moment of silence, Mingzhu realized the topic was a bit sensitive and not suitable for them to continue, so she simply skipped over it and shifted her gaze to Jian Dan's belly.
"How much time do you have left? I think it'll be soon, right?"
"Soon, early next month,"
"Is there anything else I haven't prepared? I have some cotton fabric, so I made two sets of clothes. Aunt Qin happened to bring you a bunch the other day, so I didn't say anything. I'll bring them to you later."
A simple warmth touched my heart.
"Alright, I won't stand on ceremony. I'll thank Aunt Zhuzhu on behalf of this little brat."
"Why are you being so polite with us? It's a good thing that hospitals have improved now, otherwise, would you feel comfortable giving birth in that small clinic, especially with a male doctor?"
"That's a bit discriminatory of you. It's small but perfectly formed, okay?"
"Who discriminated against me?"
As they spoke, Qin Qinghuai's voice came from the front door. He nodded to Mingzhu, then went straight to Jian Dan, helped her up, and touched her stomach.
"Did I scare you? What were you two talking about? Who's discriminating against whom?"
A simple smile.
"Sister Zhuzhu, tell me about my childbirth. She said my pregnancy came at the right time, and this hospital is more reliable than the clinic."
"Don't worry, the new military doctor might not be able to adapt. I'll try my best to get your second aunt back by the end of this month at the latest. Don't worry, I'm here for you."
When Qin Qinghuai returned, Mingzhu didn't want to stay any longer. She wasn't very familiar with Qin Qinghuai, and she got up to say goodbye, but Qin Qinghuai waved his hand.
"You all talk, I just came back to pick up some things, I'm leaving now."
"The new educated youth will be assigned not far from you. Don't worry about them; treat them the same as everyone else. We don't know their situation yet; it's uncertain whether they'll stay long."
Mingzhu stared blankly at Jian Dan for a couple of seconds, then nodded blankly.
Qin Qinghuai did indeed leave immediately, taking the items and departing almost without pausing.
"Did you come back to pick up something, or are you worried about leaving me here?"
Mingzhu also joined in the silliness, mimicking Qin Qinghuai's tone.
"Don't worry, I'm here."
I hadn't thought much of it at first, but after it was mentioned, Jian Dan felt a little embarrassed, her face burning.
"Go away, stop talking nonsense."
"Yes, yes, I was just talking nonsense, okay?"
Jian Dan pretended to hit her, but Mingzhu didn't dare to dodge too much. After a while, Jian Dan felt a lump in her stomach and quickly sat down again.
"Take it easy. I'll come over and keep you company these next few days when I'm free. We've gotten through these past few months, so don't be lazy as you're close to giving birth. You've worked hard all year, and this one slip could cost you everything."
"A shudder?"
It's simple, both funny and sad.
"You're describing it as if I'm going to the guillotine,"
Mingzhu spat twice and then pushed her away.
"You too, spit that out right now. How can you talk nonsense at a time like this?"
Hurry up, hurry up!
"Isn't this superstition? Haven't you always been someone who doesn't believe in these things?"
Mingzhu glared at her, stood up, looked around, and then breathed a sigh of relief before sitting down.
