Chapter 590 Wash it clean and eat the meat

At 5:30, while it was still dark, the camp area lit up first, and then the atmosphere became serious. First, two teams of people quickly came out and surrounded the area. Then, Lin Zhengde came out with a limp and walked towards them with a dark face.

Jian Dan never expected this to happen. She was dozing off in the passenger seat when the sudden knocking woke her up.

Old Zheng was also confused. He had just come to deliver something, so why was he surrounded?

When Jian Dan looked at the familiar people under the car, he realized that he seemed to be mistaken for an enemy.

Thinking it over, he quickly jumped out of the car.

"Uncle Lin, it's me. Why are you making such a fuss? Do you know why we're here? Is that why you came to greet us?"

The phrase "a rollercoaster of emotions" perfectly describes Lin Zhengde. He had barely managed to get some sleep in the middle of the night when he was woken up by a sentry. He came over in a huff, only to find out it was a false alarm.

"Little girl, what brings you here? What's wrong with this car?"

He scratched his head briefly, feeling quite uncomfortable being stared at by so many people.

"Uncle Lin, could we go in and unload the stuff first? The truck needs to go back to work."

"What thing? What thing?"

Lin Zhengde glanced towards the carriage, then his eyes widened in surprise.

"You, you've brought us something good again?"

Lin Zhengde was excited.

"You hunted wild boar again?"

"Huh? No, why are there three cars?"

Old Zheng couldn't help but laugh and jumped off the car as well.

"Comrade, this is a batch of supplies that my niece has been thinking about Old Cheng, so she went to great lengths to get it. How about we have someone unload the goods first, and then you can explain things to her slowly?"

After unloading the truck and seeing Lao Zheng off, Lin Zhengde was still completely bewildered as he looked at the warehouse full of stuff.

"My dear niece, where did you get this? Is it safe?"

Simply ask in return,

"Uncle Lin, has this snowfall had a big impact on you?"

“Uh,” Lin Zhengde scratched his head.

"Hi!

That definitely had an impact. The heavy snow blocked the roads, and the supplies of food and vegetables couldn't be transported. The people who went out to help were carrying dry rations, leaving behind the elderly, the weak, the sick, and the disabled. We've been eating porridge these past few days.

I made a phone call yesterday, and I estimate that the road to the provincial capital will be open in a few days, and the grain will be able to arrive.

It was easy to imagine this would happen. In places like the mining area, even if the roads are blocked, there are people who care about their food supply. But it's different here. As soon as a mission comes, everyone has to carry it out.

Lin Zhengde, for example, should be outside right now if he hadn't encountered a health problem. The person worrying about this issue is Political Commissar Cheng Jin.

"Uncle, will we have the strength to work if we eat dry rations?"

Old Zheng knew that you can't do without the profits, so how could Lin Zhengde not know that?

"Hey, what do you suggest we do?"

Xue doesn't wait for anyone, nor can she wait until everything is ready before going. Besides, as you know, the wounded can't wait either.

My old legs are really good at finding the right time; they just can't let me go out right now.

Did you see your uncle? Are you worried about how your uncle and the others are doing outside?

Don't worry, some should be back in the next couple of days. I've seen the reports from the villagers who have returned. The first batch of rescuers focused on saving lives. After resting for a day, the second batch will help the villagers rebuild their homes.

Jian Dan didn't shake her head, but she was definitely worried.

Are the situations similar everywhere?

"The villages we're responsible for are all pretty much the same, but the southeastern part is the area under the jurisdiction of the Armed Forces Department. I heard that the situation there is more serious; there were deaths on the very first day."

In similar situations in the past, Lin Zhengde was always the one doing the hard work on the front lines. This was the first time he had done the work of a political commissar. He spent all day making phone calls yesterday, and today he was getting restless.

"My dear niece, where did you come from? Is the road to the county town open? What about the provincial capital?"

Jian Dan knew what he was thinking, but Old Zheng still sent someone to investigate.

"Uncle, it's passable in the county town, but the highway is obviously not as good as this side. The snow on the road is very thick, and there are no cars moving around yet. There isn't a single footprint on the road."

Lin Zhengde, being an upright man, was finally considering a favor and was about to ask her what she had brought, thinking of finding a way to reinforce the brothers with supplies, when he heard someone outside coming to see him.

"Commander, the political commissar and the others are back. They're all in the canteen. Chef Zhang is calling for you."

What could the canteen possibly want from? It's obviously because they're out of food and need him to figure out a solution.

Even Jian Dan couldn't sit still any longer.

"Uncle, if there's nothing confidential, can I go over and take a look?"

When Jian Dan followed Lin Zhengde over, the canteen was full of ragged, unshaven soldiers, each one laughing and shaking their hands, their bodies trembling involuntarily.

It's only eight or nine in the morning. By the time they got back, they must be freezing.

Inside, Chef Zhang was already busy preparing ginger water.

As for the items that had just been unloaded, they could only watch helplessly without any permission from their superiors.

After scanning around, I spotted Cheng Jin on the side. He was supposed to be the political commissar, which sounded like an official, but at the moment he was dressed no differently from the others. His clothes were covered in mud, mixed with frozen snow, making them look black and white in patches, from his body to his feet.

His face was unshaven, his cheekbones were prominent, and his big eyes were particularly noticeable.

The color of the skin on my hands was barely visible; my fingers were swollen like radishes, and I could vaguely see some yellowish, pus-like stuff.

I just felt a heavy, sour feeling in my heart.
