Once in the car, the children fell asleep immediately, and the old man stared blankly out the window. Qin Yi wanted to say something to ease the tension, but he didn't dare to speak.
In contrast, the people on the steel plant truck were much more cheerful. Qin Qinghuai was in the passenger seat, chatting casually with the driver, and soon he had managed to get all the information he wanted out of them.
The old lady pulled her aside and briefly recounted what had happened in the past few days. She kept saying that she felt she had caused them trouble. After a few simple words of advice, she realized that she was exhausted from the long journey and soon fell asleep in the back seat.
Qin Qinghuai looked back and lowered his voice.
"Asleep?"
A simple nod.
"Hmm, think about what else we haven't tidied up at home, and we'll take care of it when we get back. These kids, their parents must be exhausted from the journey."
After all, they are his own parents, so it's normal for Qin Qinghuai to feel sorry for them.
"At such an advanced age, all this fussing will surely break these old bones,"
Despite the complaints, the joy in their eyes was obvious. If possible, who wouldn't want to be able to enjoy their parents' company when they get old?
"Is this all we're going to do? Look at how tired and pale Mom and Dad are,"
A shadow of gloom flashed in Qin Qinghuai's eyes. He was not the kind and virtuous person he appeared to be. He had hurt his parents and now he wanted to stay out of it?
"Don't worry, I know what I'm doing. Like Mom and Dad said, let's see how my older brother reacts first. If he's willing to give it up, then fine. If he's not, then I'll be the bad guy."
Simplicity isn't naivety, and I didn't think it was excessive either, so I nodded in agreement.
"But those children are all good people. They are truly innocent. Imagine how heartbroken they would be if they knew what their mother did?"
Those children, especially Qin Jing, such a sensible boy who knew how to take care of his younger brother—Simplely, she could imagine the shock and disappointment he would feel when he learned the truth, and how the light in that young boy's eyes might dim. And the two innocent little ones... Simplely, she felt a pang of sadness.
"Qin Jing is so old, he understands everything,"
"yes,"
Qin Jing is the eldest of the younger generation in the Qin family. He is cheerful, respectful to his elders, loving towards his younger brother, and friendly to his classmates and neighbors. In everyone's eyes, he is the best child imaginable. Qin Qinghuai also likes him very much and sighed upon hearing this.
"Yes, those children will be affected to some extent. Sister-in-law, although you may be a bit dim-witted and easily influenced, you are really good to the children."
"Doesn't she realize that in the eyes of outsiders, even if the Qin family splits up, they are still one family? No matter who wins or loses, the child will be affected?"
Didn't she think about the child at that moment?
The more he thought about it, the angrier he became, and his voice unconsciously rose. The old lady next to him opened her eyes, smiled quietly, and then closed her eyes again, as if she had never woken up.
"Alright, alright, why are you still angry?"
Qin Qinghuai quickly comforted his wife.
"Don't worry, I'll keep an eye on things over there. Even if my brother is soft-hearted, I won't. I brought the children here because I'm afraid they'll be implicated over there. After all, they can't escape the connection. It's still quite cruel for the children to see the truth with their own eyes."
"yes.
But this sudden decision to drop out of school and then come all this way—how is the child supposed to feel? Looking at all the things he brought, big bags and small packages, it seems like he's moved all of the child's belongings. Doesn't Qin Jing have any reservations?
Qin Qinghuai looked at the receding scenery, his voice low and deep.
"Perhaps he already guessed it,"
After a brief pause, recalling the time from getting off the bus to getting on, he finally realized something was amiss.
"He didn't say anything. He barely said a few words the whole time. Apart from greetings, he would only say a few words when asked by name, right?"
Also, her complexion was off, and her smile looked stiff.
It's fine if you don't think about it, but once you do, you see doubts everywhere.
"Oh, and also, he seems to be avoiding, rather than being around Mom,"
"Yes, he's a very talkative child. This reaction means he understands everything and feels guilty towards the old lady."
"This isn't the child's fault; you can't put the blame on a child like him."
“We all understand, but it was all so sudden for the child. He's still just a child. His mother caused the trouble, his older brother isn't home, and he has younger brothers who need his care. He probably doesn't dare ask his grandparents. After this happened, he's probably worried that his family will also have a problem with them. He has no one to talk to, so he's just bottling it all up inside.”
In a fit of anger, she punched the chair, causing it to tremble. The old lady's heart skipped a beat, but she pretended to be asleep and was jolted into a different position. She kept her eyes closed without making a sound, her heart aching. She really didn't notice what her eldest grandson was doing.
"What a terrible thing to do! Doesn't she know her own limitations? Does she think she's done something amazing and that her brother will be eternally grateful to her?"
"As you said, some people's thought processes are different from ordinary people. She may be such a person, and I don't deny that. She is indeed wholeheartedly for her older brother and the children, but this method is really unacceptable to people."
I think my older brother is probably the same way, which is why he's been keeping a close eye on her these past few years. But he's a regular guy who goes to work on time and often works overtime—well, an honest man—so he doesn't really have much of a deterrent effect, and she's not afraid of him.
"How did my brother end up with such a clueless person?"
