Chapter 28
Inside the Imperial Palace Gate, the moonlight, like water, spilled across the tranquil mountain forest.
Danxi was still busy with the mountain gate formation. He looked up at the moon and realized it was already 7 PM.
A nameless unease began to spread through his heart.
She shouldn't have stayed this long.
Danxi hurried down the mountain.
Soon, Danxi found the tavern.
At this moment, the tavern's doors were tightly shut, with a forlorn "Closed" wooden sign hanging on the door, swaying gently in the cold wind. Danxi frowned, his doubts deepening. He walked around the tavern and found that all the windows were tightly covered, as if deliberately hiding something.
He gathered his spiritual energy in his hand, condensing it into a ball of spiritual energy. With a wave of his hand, the ball of spiritual energy nimbly slipped into the tavern.
Through the spirit energy sphere, he vaguely sensed a faint aura emanating from a private room in the tavern. He quickly located the source and immediately headed towards the room.
He quietly approached the side room and discovered that there were some restrictions placed at the entrance. These restrictions were not complicated for him. After a moment's thought, Danxi, relying on his understanding of restrictions, quickly found a way to break them.
With a slight fluctuation of spiritual energy, the restriction slowly dissipated.
The door was tightly closed, and there was a faint light flickering inside.
Danxi slowly pushed open the door to the room, and a pungent smell of blood wafted out. Before her eyes lay a corpse lying dead on the ground. There was a fatal wound on the person's neck, and a large, gruesome pool of blood lay beneath them. The corpse's eyes were wide open, its face filled with terror; it had died a wretched death.
Besides the strong stench of blood, there was also a strange fragrance in the air. He immediately sensed something was wrong, held his breath, and cautiously looked around. His gaze quickly locked onto the fragrant oil emitting wisps of smoke on the candlestick. He released a burst of spiritual energy, instantly extinguishing the flame.
Danxi's eyes were sharp as she scanned the dimly lit room, finally finding Jiang Liuya curled up in a hidden corner.
She was hugging herself, her whole body trembling violently.
Danxi immediately stepped forward, knelt down, and examined her injuries. When he touched her body, he felt a burning heat. He discovered that a strange heat poison was raging within her body. Her condition was terrible; her breathing was weak, her consciousness was wandering, her body was burning hot, and her clothes were soaked through, as if she had been pulled out of the water.
Danxi immediately channeled his spiritual energy into her, attempting to alleviate her pain. He also used his Wood Spirit to regulate the chaotic energy within her body. He was a primordial Wood Spirit, the purest spiritual energy in the world, possessing restorative and purifying properties. The Wood Spirit slowly seeped into Jiang Liuya's body, briefly suppressing the rampant heat poison.
After a moment, Jiang Liuya seemed to regain some of her senses. Her eyelids twitched slightly, as if she were trying to open her eyes.
"Willow Bud," Danxi whispered in her ear.
Jiang Liuya opened her eyes, her gaze unfocused. Hearing the voice, she tried to concentrate her scattered eyes, attempting to clearly identify the person in front of her.
"Brother Qingyi, is that you?" she asked weakly.
"It's me, don't be afraid." Danxi said as she cast a calming spell on her.
The familiar scent of grass and trees instantly put Jiang Liuya at ease. She smiled, as if she had finally been waiting for someone to come and get her.
"This place is not safe to stay any longer." With that, Danxi bent down, carefully carried the injured Jiang Liuya on her back, and quickly left the tavern.
Danxi gathered her spiritual power in her feet and swiftly traversed the night.
Soon, they left Qingquan Town.
The wind whistled past their ears, ruffling their hair, but Jiang Liuya's body grew even hotter.
"We're already at the foot of Yudan Mountain, we'll be home soon," Danxi said softly, trying to reassure the person on her back.
His response was a hot breath near his ear, carrying an indescribable allure.
Jiang Liuya gently bit his earlobe.
Danxi's body jolted violently, as if an electric current had flowed through his entire body, leaving him feeling numb and trembling. The spiritual energy he had gathered in his feet instantly dissipated, and he staggered, almost losing his footing.
Jiang Liuya breathed hot air into his ear and whispered, "Brother..."
The shout seemed to possess a magical power, leaving him standing there dumbfounded, beads of sweat forming on his forehead, his body at a loss for how to react.
"Brother, I've been poisoned by an aphrodisiac. Let's get rid of it right here... okay?" Jiang Liuya breathed heavily in his ear. Her voice seemed to carry fire, stirring the already taut string in his heart.
Jiang Liuya's hands rested limply on his shoulders, her body trembling slightly, the burning heat seeping through her thin clothes.
Danxi's mind was a complete blank.
After a long while, he finally realized what he should do.
He gently set his lover down and quickly erected a barrier around them. It was an invisible barrier that isolated them from the outside world; in this small space, there was only the two of them. The moment the barrier was erected, the air seemed to freeze, leaving only their rapid breathing. Danxi hugged her lover tightly, holding her close in her arms, their intense heartbeats merging together.
The moonlight was bright and clear, like a silver veil draped over the earth. All around was tranquility; the grass and trees exuded a fresh fragrance, mingled with the damp scent of earth. Nearby, a small stream flowed gently, its waters babbling melodiously. The occasional chirping of insects sounded exceptionally clear in the still night.
