Chapter 12 The Dragon "He wanted to carry her into his cave."...

Rumble, rumble.

Thunder roared across the land, and raindrops pounded down on the ground.

Yue Mingxi woke up with a start, rubbed her eyes, put on her embroidered shoes, and put on another piece of clothing.

Using the light emanating from the large gemstone in the room, Yue Mingxi tiptoed outside.

The lantern hanging on the crooked tree was knocked down by the wind and fell to the ground, emitting a faint green light.

Using the green light, Yue Mingxi carefully walked to Mei Zishi's side.

The blanket covering Mei Zi was soaked with water, so Yue Mingxi reached out and forcefully pulled the blanket off.

Large raindrops quickly soaked her hair, clothes, and face, leaving her completely wet.

Blinking the raindrops off her eyelashes, Yue Mingxi supported Mei Zishi's waist with one hand and the back of her knees with the other, picked her up in a princess carry, and walked towards the small pavilion in the backyard.

She also remembered that Wu Shanqing wouldn't let Meizi into the house, so it was better to go to the small pavilion to be on the safe side.

She originally intended to drag Mei Zishi into the backyard, but considering Mei Zishi's injuries, she was afraid of causing him further harm, so she had to abandon the plan.

Mei Zishi's hands and feet were tied up. If she wanted to carry him more easily, she would have to untie the ropes. Yue Mingxi didn't dare to take the risk, so she could only grit her teeth and hug him.

This saves more time than using a trolley or a sedan chair, and you'll get less rained on.

But to her surprise, Mei Zi was very light; she had thought it would take a lot of effort to pick him up.

The rain was pouring down, and the backyard was pitch black; you could barely see the road.

To avoid falling, Yue Mingxi could only slow down and carefully walk towards the pavilion.

Stepping into the water, splashes of water rose up one after another.

When Mei Zi was gently placed on the ground, Yue Mingxi took out a brand-new Minghua lantern from her storage bag and placed it in the middle of the pavilion for illumination.

Sitting in the small pavilion, Yue Mingxi shook her head left and right suspiciously.

It was strange; ever since she stepped out of the house, Yue Mingxi felt like something was watching her.

Now that I have more free time, this feeling is even more pronounced.

Several bolts of lightning struck the ground, followed by a deafening clap of thunder, and slanted raindrops pelted her damp clothes.

"This is so strange," Yue Mingxi said nervously, touching her clothes.

Despite the heavy rain, her clothes were only damp, not wet at all.

Her clothes were soaked through, and raindrops were still streaming down her face.

How come it's almost dry in just a short while?

Looking down at the plums she had placed on the ground, she was soaked to the bone, water dripping from her body, and deep water stains were left on the ground where she lay.

"This shouldn't be," Yue Mingxi said, looking dazed.

A cool breeze blew by, and the feeling of being stared at became even stronger than before.

Rubbing the goosebumps on her arms, Yue Mingxi mustered her courage and stood up at the edge of the pavilion.

Peeking out, Yue Mingxi cautiously looked around.

There was nothing there. Yue Mingxi scratched her head. Was she being paranoid?

"Water, water, water," Mei Zi murmured softly with her eyes closed on the ground.

Yue Mingxi dismissed her suspicions and looked at Meizi, whispering, "Do you want some water? Wait a moment, I'll get it for you."

After saying that, Yue Mingxi took a breath and ran headlong into the rain.

The raindrops landed on her clothes, instantly evaporating into moisture and disappearing.

The enormous black dragon, its form concealed, hovered in the sky, only a meter away from her, its empty eye sockets staring intently at Yue Mingxi's back.

It followed her like a shadow all the way to the kitchen.

Black Dragon tilted his head, sensing her presence, desperately suppressing his possessiveness, his head throbbing so badly it felt like it was about to explode.

He wanted to carry her into his cave and place her with his favorite gems.

He was only inches away; if he took just one more step, he could bite her into his mouth.

But his vague subconscious told him that he couldn't do that.

The black dragon was in great distress. Its body, which covered the entire courtyard, writhed between heaven and earth, emitting a terrifying dragon roar.

Yue Mingxi's hand holding the bowl trembled, and she turned around in confusion.

Taking a step forward, Yue Mingxi turned her head left and right, pricking up her ears.

Apart from the pitter-patter of rain, there was no other sound in the courtyard.

Was she hallucinating when she heard those loud noises?

A sudden gust of wind arose, and Yue Mingxi trembled slightly. How could it be so frightening?

If this continues, she'll run inside and call Wu Shanqing to keep her company.

In the unseen sky, the girl's fair face and the dragon's head intertwined.

In the dark courtyard, which was faintly glowed with green light, the sound of rain pattered down.

The enormous black dragon stood frozen in place, bewildered.

He felt the girl's soft, warm cheeks pressed against his enormous head.

It's itchy, giving you a feather-like feel.

The dragon's body, which had been churning between heaven and earth, froze instantly. The next second, the black dragon soared into the sky.

It darted into the dark clouds and hid.

After a while, the black dragon quietly poked its head out from the dark clouds, sensing her movements.

Stopping looking around, Yue Mingxi turned her head back and whispered to herself, "There's nothing there. You're just imagining things. Don't scare yourself."

Holding the bowl, Yue Mingxi took a few more steps forward and hung the fallen lantern back up under the crooked, withered tree.

She gently patted the tree, and Yue Mingxi smiled. "Don't be afraid, I've retrieved the lantern for you."

Hearing her gentle voice, Black Dragon was so angry he wanted to uproot the crooked, withered tree.

With a few angry roars, the black dragon blew away the dark clouds that had enveloped it.

The next second, the dragon turned and swooped down to the ground.

He's going to take her away right now.

However, a nerve in his brain was pulling him back, preventing him from doing so.

The black dragon thrashed its body violently in the air, its tail whipping away one dark cloud after another.

Ultimately, the subconscious mind prevailed.

Reluctantly sensing her presence, the black dragon flew back to its cave.

If he stays here any longer, he really won't be able to control himself.

-

The lingering feeling of being stared at only disappeared when Yuemingxi returned to the pavilion.

Yue Mingxi breathed a sigh of relief; she had only scared herself.

Mei Zi was helped to lean against the railing of the small pavilion, and Yue Mingxi carefully fed him water.

Mei Zi choked and slowly opened her heavy eyelids.

Yue Mingxi stiffened. She wasn't sure if Wu Shanqing, who was asleep, could still protect her.

She quickly put down the bowl and fled two meters away from Meizi.

Meizi subconsciously wanted to reach out and touch her face, but her hands were tied, so she had no choice but to give up the idea.

Mei Zishi pursed her lips, looked up at the stunningly beautiful girl in front of her, and softly thanked her, "Thank you for saving me in the rain."

His consciousness began when the girl hugged him, and it has been slowly returning little by little ever since.

"You're welcome." Hearing Mei Zishi's extremely hoarse voice, Yue Mingxi smiled and said.

The boy was so polite that Yue Mingxi felt embarrassed to immediately question him about why he had stabbed her.

Mei Zishi looked around, then looked up at Yue Mingxi, her voice hoarse, and asked, "Is it safe here? Has the princess sent people to chase after us? Are you alright?"

Yue Mingxi blushed and awkwardly pointed to herself, "The princess was a lie I made up to save you back then."

Mei Zishi stopped abruptly, her eyes widening in disbelief, and asked, "I stabbed you back then?"

Yue Mingxi nodded, then asked suspiciously, "So you originally wanted to assassinate the princess?"

Looking into the girl's pure, unadulterated eyes, Mei Zi paused for a moment, then nodded gently.

He's always been cautious, but this is the first time he's been so unguarded with someone.

Mei Zi looked at her carefully, "Are you alright?"

Yue Mingxi smiled and shook her head. "No."

Mei Zi breathed a sigh of relief, her voice tinged with apology. "I'm sorry, I wasn't thinking clearly at the time."

"It's nothing." Yue Mingxi smiled.

Although Mei Zishi spoke so politely and without leaving any room for doubt, Yue Mingxi still kept her guard up and did not untie him.

As Yue Mingxi carefully covered Mei Zi with the blanket, she yawned.

"The night is still long, you should make do with this and go to sleep for now."

Mei Zi nodded gently. "Thank you."

Mei Zi pursed her lips and whispered a reminder to her, "Impersonating a princess is punishable by beheading. Don't take that risk unless absolutely necessary."

"Hmm?" Mei Zi looked up at her.

Yue Mingxi took out the contract of indenture from her storage pouch, placed it in his arms, and curled her lips into a smile. "Your contract of indenture is yours. Now you are free."

Raindrops fell on the edge of the pavilion, dripping down to form small puddles, dripping incessantly.

Mei Zi looked up and stared blankly at the girl.

The girl's eyes crinkled into a smile, and even though she was in a terrible state, her smile was incredibly bright.

It was more beautiful and more dazzling than any fireworks he had ever seen.

She said to him, "You have to be happy from now on, and stop frowning all the time."

Mei Zishi's eyelashes trembled, and she lowered her eyes, not daring to look at her anymore. She whispered, "Thank you."

After Yue Mingxi left, Mei Zishi sat on the ground in anguish, curling up in pain.

With her head resting on the blanket, Mei Zi carefully felt its softness.

Looking down at the incessant rain, Mei Zishi twitched the corners of her mouth.

He will never be happy unless he kills her with his own hands.
