Shen Hongchou smiled and pulled up a chair for her to sit down.
The couple had only been married for a month and were still deeply in love. Although Shen Hongchou had a reputation for womanizing, his status, position, and abilities were undeniable, and his wife was gentle and kind, so the couple got along quite well.
"Which little fox sent this this time?" Madam Shen pointed to an unread file on the screen.
Shen Hongchou said, both amused and exasperated, "What little fox? This was sent by Mr. Jiu."
The cover of the document featured a cute little yellow-eared dog, so it's not surprising that Madam Shen mistook it for a woman's.
"So it was that mysterious Mr. Ninth." Madam Shen asked worriedly, "Is Hua An's condition not good?"
Shen Hongchou said with some surprise, "No, he said he would bring me a surprise when he comes in a couple of days, but he didn't say what the surprise was."
"Isn't a surprise a good thing? Why do you look so unhappy?"
Shen Hongchou narrowed his eyes: "I'm afraid a pleasant surprise will turn into a shock."
...
South of Hua'an City.
It was past 3:00 AM.
Chang Le was woken up by Qin Xian's communication earlier than the waiting time Qin Xian had mentioned.
They used an old-fashioned communication system, as modern communication systems couldn't connect to networks from 300 years ago.
"Urgent notice! Assemble immediately and depart!"
Chang Le quickly and efficiently got ready and left.
"Lele!" Wen Yuqiao, who had been woken up, ran to the door and looked at her with worry and tenderness. She waved her hand and said, "Lele, my sweet baby, you must come back safely. Aunt Qiao is waiting for you."
Chang Le felt a pang in her heart, but she smiled back and said, "Don't worry, I'll be back safely."
After saying that, Chang Le headed to the meeting point.
Six armored vehicles carrying personnel, two main battle tanks, and a squad of soldiers were assembling. Qin Xian stood beside an officer with thick eyebrows, large eyes, and regular features. This officer was Zou Xi, whom Qin Xian had mentioned before.
Chang Le ran to Qin Xian's side and saluted Zou Xi: "Greetings, Commander Zou!"
Zou Xi looked you up and down, his brows furrowing slightly. "Qin Xian said you were quite capable, and I trusted him, so I brought you along. On the battlefield, swords and spears have no eyes; you must obey orders, understand?"
"yes!"
"Get in the car with Qin Xian."
Chang Le followed Qin Xian and jumped into the carriage of an armored vehicle.
Some of the people inside were soldiers, and some were a temporary army composed of people with superpowers. When they saw Chang Le, some gave him strange looks, but most ignored him and took the time to close their eyes and rest.
A short while later, the vehicle started.
Chang Le also closed his eyes to rest.
As the vehicle approached the war zone, it slowed down, and the deafening roar of artillery fire and supernatural bombardment continued to echo.
"You entire team, get off the bus!"
Zou Xi ordered Qin Xian and Chang Le to get off the bus.
"Listen carefully, your mission is to split into two teams. While the main force draws fire, you will carry the latest weapons you've developed and flank them to the front lines to deliver the equipment. You can all give your lives, but the weapons must be delivered, understand?!"
"clear!"
Zou Xi quickly divided the men into two teams. He glanced at Qin Xian and said, "Complete the mission and come back alive."
"yes."
Zou Xi glanced at Chang Le beside Qin Xian again, but said nothing.
"Alright, everyone, let's move out!"
Chang Le and Qin Xian were in a team led by an older, experienced superhuman soldier who led them around from the left flank.
After arriving at the point where the detour would begin, the team waited.
The squad leader simply separated the attackers from the support characters and made brief arrangements.
After the main force opened fire on the aliens behind them, the squad leader waved his hand and shouted, "Charge!"
Two defensively skilled superhumans, armed with weapons and equipment, stood in the middle, flanked by two others providing support. The rest of the group quickly formed a slender diamond shape around the four of them.
The alien species on the edge noticed the group and immediately launched a series of attacks.
The team members responsible for the attack on the perimeter immediately intercepted or killed the alien species.
Qin Xian is a semi-support role, located near the center.
Originally, the squad leader thought Chang Le was young and might lack combat experience, so he assigned her to a position near the middle. However, as they advanced and the people leading the way became tired and were replaced, Chang Le was gradually moved to the front.
In the end, Chang Le followed closely behind the squad leader, and the menacing vines, together with the squad leader's earth spikes, smoothly cleared a path.
The squad leader looked at her in surprise and exclaimed, "This little girl is remarkable!"
"Don't get distracted!" Chang Le grabbed his shoulder and yanked him, vines lashing out and flinging a strange creature that didn't conform to human aesthetics into the swarm of other creatures.
The squad leader dared not be distracted any longer and led the team forward.
The team moved quickly, but in a prolonged battle, replenishment couldn't keep up with the consumption, and those with insufficient cultivation quickly fell behind the group.
The squad leader kept adjusting the formation, and those who fell behind and couldn't catch up were simply left behind.
As they approached their destination on the central main battle line, the original twenty-man team had dwindled to only eight due to stragglers and casualties. Ahead lay a dense concentration of alien creatures locked in combat with the soldiers.
The battle lines here are in chaos; the aliens have stormed into the trenches, and the soldiers have begun hand-to-hand combat.
The squad leader immediately ordered: "Charge!"
The eight men charged forward without hesitation.
Everyone knows that hesitating at a time like this is tantamount to death!
Upon seeing a large cluster of slimy alien creatures ahead, the squad leader's expression changed slightly. Only those with strong offensive abilities could deal with these things, and none of them possessed that ability.
The squad leader paused slightly, but Chang Le, who was behind him, didn't stop and brushed past him: "Squad leader, help me, divide them!"
The squad leader didn't have time to stop her, but he immediately followed her instructions. With a flick of his arms, layers of soil spikes rose up with a "bang bang bang," forcefully splitting the large patch of slime in front of him.
