What is it?
The two walked into an unsealed room. On one side of the room was a display cabinet. Luo Xuan took down a wooden box that was about half a meter square from it.
"You need to open this box."
Chang Le reached out and opened the box. The lock was a gold lock with a hidden latch mechanism, and its shape was very similar to a longevity lock.
The box was opened, revealing six items in six grooves on a bright yellow brocade.
Deep in longing, my heart belongs to her; I wear a fragrant sachet.
The jade bracelet remains unchanged despite the changing times;
A beautiful woman figure made of Qinghuali wood, symbolizing warding off evil and bringing good fortune.
Bone and blood melted, dragon scales shattered, a bright moon pendant;
A golden dragon entwined around the hilt, a hero's gift, a dagger inlaid with gold;
Her rosy cheeks remain as beautiful as when she was young, adorned with a red jade hairpin.
"A sachet, a white jade bracelet, a blue and white pear wood carving, black and gold earrings, a gold-inlaid knife, and a coming-of-age ceremony gift."
“Lele, this is Fuguang’s birthday gift to you after six years of your absence.”
Chang Le's soul froze at that moment, his gaze fixed on it, lingering there tenderly.
"He made all of these by hand. The sachets, jade bracelets, wood carvings, and hairpins were all made by him."
“He does it every year. He prepared the red hairpin before he left. You weren’t even eighteen yet then.”
"These earrings and this knife were made by him by melting his own dragon scales. They contain a trace of dragon energy and are no less than ordinary secret artifacts."
Chang Le dragged the wooden box with one hand, and with great effort, lifted the other hand, which trembled as it landed on the short sword with its dark, gleaming blade.
"A beautiful woman gifted me... a gold-inlaid knife..."
How can I repay Ying Qiongyao?
Chang Le tried her best to hold back, but tears still fell "plop" onto the blade and then slid down her cheek. The sharp, smooth blade reflected her teary-eyed appearance.
“That’s outrageous… I’m the beauty…” Chang Le said, as if she were complaining to someone.
Luo Xuan spoke softly: "He said that he would give you this knife as a skirt knife, and that you should protect yourself outside and not be bullied."
Chang Le's lips trembled uncontrollably, and he couldn't utter a single word.
She finally managed to calm her breathing, turned around, put the wooden box down, and took the dagger out of the box with both hands.
He drew his sword, clenched his fist, and with a single slash, he drew blood to sharpen the blade!
Blood dripped onto the dark, solidified blade surface. Some slid off, while some seeped into the dark blade. A few drops flowed over the copper guard, and the golden dragon wrapped around the hilt was finished off with blood!
Chang Le took the handkerchief Luo Xuan handed her, wiped the blade clean, and then wiped the blood from her palm. The wound on her palm, a few centimeters long, had stopped bleeding on its own.
With the scabbard placed under the sword, Chang Le sheathed the sword and carefully picked up the red jade hairpin.
The simple decorations are concentrated on the hairpin head, which is a simplified version of a rabbit. The rabbit is in a scooping-the-moon pose, with a blooming flower at its feet and on each side.
The maker cleverly used the natural color and texture of the red jade. The rabbit has a touch of red on its eyes and the tips of its ears, making it lifelike. The flowers are red and white in a gradient, making them very vivid.
The carving isn't top-notch, but you can tell at a glance that it took care of the craftsmanship.
Chang Le held it in her hands, caressing it endlessly. Finally, she raised her hand and used it to tie up her hair, then looked at Luo Xuan with a radiant smile: "Brother Xuan, am I pretty?"
Luo Xuan laughed and said, "They complement each other perfectly; such a thing is rare in heaven."
Chang Le took it off again and carefully put it back in the box.
Why aren't you wearing it?
Chang Le shook his head: "I'm afraid they'll break if I drop them, so I'll keep them safe inside. I'm taking these two with me!"
As she spoke, she took out a black and gold earring and a short knife.
Chang Le touched her earrings. She didn't have pierced ears, and the earrings she wore at previous banquets didn't require piercings, but these earrings did.
Luo Xuan had just opened his mouth when he said, "Looks like I might need to get my ear pierced... Sigh!!"
He flicked out two thin, toothpick-like ice needles with his fingers and pierced them directly through Luo Xuan's ears. Luo Xuan had no time to stop him.
Chang Le seemed completely oblivious to the pain, and enthusiastically put the earring in: "Hmm~ I like it!"
When she turned her head and met Luo Xuan's dark face, she realized something: "Uh, haha, Brother Xuan, how are you?"
For the first time, Chang Le noticed a clear sense of restraint on Luo Xuan's face.
She suspected that Luo Xuan's look meant he wanted to kill her.
Chang Le immediately removed her earrings, inserted two ice needles between her ears, wiped away the blood, and the wounds had mostly healed. She then put her earrings back on.
"It hasn't healed yet, it will grow together." Luo Xuan tried to stop him.
Chang Le shook his head: "No, I want to keep it with me forever!"
Luo Xuan could only sigh in the end, then left her with a dark expression.
Chang Le watched him leave with a smile, but when her gaze fell back on the box, her smile turned somber.
Her pale fingers caressed each gift; every item in the box was exquisitely crafted.
"Sachet, bracelet, earrings, gold-inlaid knife, hairpin... Shen Fuguang, you coveted me so much, why did you leave me alone in this world?"
"Which one of these isn't a token of love?"
Chang Le pouted, getting angrier the more she thought about it, and slapped the sturdiest box with her hand: "You old scoundrel! You'll be so jealous if you can't marry me!"
She stood in front of the box for a long time, then silently closed it, touched the earring on her ear, and lifted the hem of her cloak and fur dress to tie the skirt knife, forged from dragon scales, to her leg.
...
Chang Le stayed at the Golden Palace for two more days.
This week, Chen Wu followed Luo Xuan to deal with the Gallia Consortium; Tao Zi followed Zi Gui Ti to learn from the experience; Fu He Qing followed Chang Feng to the northern research lab; and Wang Yao did not return to District 3, but went directly to the training ground with Wan Bu Xun.
On November 23, Chang Le took Chen Wu and Fu Heqing, along with Zi Guiti, back to the Third District.
