Chang Le lifted his half-closed eyelids, revealing sharp, dark green pupils: "I almost forgot about him. Where is he?"
Luo Xuan led Chang Le to the place where Zi Gui Ti was imprisoned.
Chang Le pushed open the door and saw a gaunt young man sitting in the corner of the bed where the sunlight couldn't reach. His unkempt hair was a little long and disheveled, almost completely obscuring his features, with only his prominent nose cutting out a shadow.
Two dishes and a soup were on the table next to me, but they had gone cold.
After the door opened, the young man turned around, smiled when he saw Chang Le, and blood immediately flowed from his chapped lips, turning a bright red.
This was a face Chang Le had never seen before, yet there was a sense of familiarity in its features. As she slowly turned her head, she finally remembered where that familiarity came from.
Luo Xuan stepped forward: "I haven't eaten or drunk anything for three days since the day Hades died."
Chang Le nodded slightly and gave Luo Xuan a wink. Luo Xuan then left and closed the door behind him.
She walked to the wall and sat down in the chair opposite the bed where the cuckoo was crying.
The cuckoo simply looked at her, and the two remained silent, both already understanding each other's thoughts.
After a moment of silence, Chang Le spoke first: "Do you want to die, or do you want to live?"
Zigui Ti raised an eyebrow in surprise, her voice hoarse as she spoke: "She's still alive."
Chang Le said calmly, "Didn't you not reveal our final plan to Hades? Considering your past contributions and the Mingzhi team this time, it's reasonable to spare your life."
A glimmer of light flashed in the cuckoo's lifeless eyes: "I know, cough cough..."
A glass of water was shoved in front of him, and tentacles wrapped around the glass.
Chang Le frowned slightly, looking somewhat impatient: "Your voice is just as unpleasant as Hades's."
The cuckoo paused for a moment, then chuckled helplessly, took the water cup, and drank.
However, tap water, the water from washing faucets, is not drinking water.
Whether Chang Le did it on purpose or not, the cuckoo's cry had cleared her throat, and her voice wasn't so hoarse anymore: "I want to know, when did you discover it? When did you begin to suspect it?"
Chang Le said, "The suspicion arose shortly after we met, when you pledged your allegiance to me. The certainty came from the Leopard Man."
The cuckoo cried out in obvious astonishment: "When I expressed my loyalty to you, you were so moved, but now you doubt me?"
Chang Le glanced at him: "If someone suddenly pops up to pledge allegiance, don't you suspect anything?"
The cuckoo cries: "Doubt."
Chang Le looked at him.
Zigui shrugged without blushing: "Yes, I did that on purpose to make you notice me, but I didn't expect you to be so vigilant and discover that I was an undercover agent so early."
Chang Le observed that both Iris and Wan Buxun said they couldn't see through Zigui Ti. Even Luo Xuan had never seen Zigui Ti's true face, which shows that he is a person who hides his true feelings and doesn't like to express them.
It's illogical that such a person would show such deep affection and enthusiasm towards her, who has lost her memory, and utter those expectant words, offering up his loyalty.
There's something wrong with the cuckoo's cry.
But Chang Le didn't think that someone who could hide so well from Luo Xuan would be able to see through her if he wanted to, since she wasn't particularly cunning. However, she still noticed something was amiss.
Therefore, there is only one possibility: the cuckoo's cry was meant to make her notice something was wrong.
However, he was unwilling or unable to openly acknowledge this unusual behavior, so Chang Le simply kept his suspicions to himself and observed silently. After all, he couldn't escape the Dragon Sect's grasp, so why not make use of this rather valuable labor force?
Of course, this is Chang Le's explanation for the cuckoo's cry.
In fact, there is another, less objective, reason: Fu Guang.
Zigui Ti was someone Fu Guang kept and entrusted with important responsibilities. If he really had any problems, Fu Guang wouldn't have discovered it after so many years by his side, nor would she have ultimately left him with her. Therefore, Chang Le chose to continue observing and using Zigui Ti because Fu Guang did so.
The cuckoo still didn't know what it wanted to know: "When you said the leopard man, were you sure? Why?"
"You were too decisive back then."
Chang Ledao said, "As a full-time intelligence officer, after Wang Yao said he suspected that the appearance of the leopard man was an accident, you immediately agreed that it was an accident. After I said that it might be the work of the God-Making Faction, you did not have any doubts, but directly pointed to the God-Making Faction."
But according to Luo Xuan's report afterward, the Leopard Man's mission was temporarily reassigned; besides the God-Making Faction, the Goose Return Tower and the Federation could actually create beings like the Leopard Man. But you didn't; you were intentionally leading me to investigate the God-Making Faction.
Besides this incident, there were many more, the most obvious being Tsukishima. In the Shazhou City case, you practically steered the information towards Tsukishima, almost impatiently. As for the others, do I need to say more?
For example, during the training camp at the Tower of Patching, Ryan attacked my psychological issues; for example, when Huang Mingfu was in trouble, there were unusual movements in various regions of the Central Plains, but you didn't give any feedback; for example, the Federation's fog had already shrouded the Andsdaya Mountains, but you didn't send any information..."
Chang Le kept talking while staring intently at him.
Zigui Ti was truly shameless, not avoiding her gaze at all, but instead asking with a smile, "Then why did you entrust so many things to me afterward?"
"I'm worried," Chang Le said expressionlessly, "that's why Tao Zi is staying with you."
Ziguiti was truly stunned: "That little girl?"
“Yes, a little undercover agent placed next to the undercover agent,” Chang Le said, “specifically to monitor you.”
The cuckoo cried helplessly, covering its face.
He was prepared that Chang Le would not be trusted from the moment he "pledged loyalty," but he did not expect that the quiet, reserved girl who was even afraid to speak loudly was the pawn she had planted beside him.
