Feeling the intense pressure that compels one to bow down, Kazmir struggled to raise his head, his eyes showing astonishment, before lowering his head and laughing hoarsely.
The person who was launching a sneak attack from behind him was frozen in place, unable to move, his face filled with terror.
Chang Le glanced coldly at the man, who looked as if he had been shot between the eyebrows. His head snapped back, and he fell straight to the ground, losing consciousness.
Chang Le reached out and lightly touched the top of Kazmir's head, then tore through space and left. Xue Wuwang and Huan Bo exchanged a glance and stepped forward to explain the situation to the Black Prison steward who was unaware of what was happening.
Kazmir was momentarily distracted, and when he regained his footing, he was already facing the sea.
This is the eastern edge of the entrance to the Zhumen base. The battle-torn city walls stand coldly high on both sides, making the space between heaven and earth seem narrow.
But stepping out of this archway used to protect against the raging tides, and following the salty sea breeze, one is suddenly greeted by a vast ocean with raging waves.
Metal defensive towers in the water stretched outwards for miles, their pointed tops peeking out from the sponge. Faint halos of energy were blended into beautiful colors by the dawn light. Soaring seagulls occasionally stopped to rest before riding the wind away again.
The sea on a spring morning still carries a faint frost, but it is not cold; it only makes people feel refreshed and relaxed.
Kazmir stepped forward, letting the sea breeze caress his cheeks, carrying the seagulls' messages of freedom. Even with energy-bound shackles binding his hands and feet, his heart was filled with longing.
He likes everything cool-toned, quiet, and solitary, including the moon, the morning, and the sea.
Kazmir took a deep breath of the fresh scent of sea salt. Although it was slightly marred by the metallic smell, it was still much better than the suffocating stench of blood in the Black Prison.
He felt the outline before turning to look at Chang Le beside him.
She stood with her head bowed, her gaze calm and distant as she looked toward the coastline on the other side. Her dark green hair had grown a few strands of striking white compared to when I saw her ten years ago, the pale strands connecting with her deep, emerald-like eyes, and together with her gaze, it went toward a distant place unseen by anyone.
Quiet and lonely.
Chang Le now looks almost unrecognizable from his former self.
Kazmir, showing little interest, broke the silence by asking, "Why did you bring me here?"
Chang Le turned her head, then tilted it slightly: "You don't like it?"
Kazmir paused, then narrowed his eyes and said, "So you brought me here because you think I like you?"
Chang Le said, "If I want to talk to you, do you think I should take you to a place you hate? We're not enemies, I don't need to use such methods to torment you."
“But I consider you my enemy!” Kazmir’s eyes were cold, filled with anger at being disobeyed and deceived. “Ah Jiu, how dare you lay a hand on me, control me to obey you, and lock me up here! I hate being manipulated the most!”
Chang Le answered in an unconventional way: "Don't you hate living a meaningless life the most? If you couldn't stand the days in the dark prison, you wouldn't have let yourself live until now."
Kazmir was speechless for a moment, then chuckled softly, "You really are the person who understands me best in this world, yet you choose to go against me. Ah Jiu, do you know how much I hate you?"
Chang Le turned to look at him, her eyes calm as if a storm had been crushed and pieced together into a spring breeze: "If you're willing to try to survive on this and see the new world I can bring, I don't mind."
Kazmir felt a surge of anger as his defenses were crumbled step by step. He gritted his teeth and said viciously, "What I want is destruction! Not a world still tainted by the filth of the old era!"
Chang Le gently shook her head: "I can't do it."
"How could you not do it..."
Before Kazmir could finish speaking, he met Chang Le's increasingly distorted gaze: "I've tried so many times, but I just... can't do it..."
Kazmir was stunned.
He couldn't quite describe the emotion in her eyes. It was as if she had truly been a villain who tried to destroy the world, seeking revenge at all costs, but in the end, because of a baby's cry or a cat's wail, she dejectedly laid down her weapon and hated her own weak conscience.
Chang Le seems to have actually tried it.
Before tears welled up in her eyes, Chang Le closed them, and when she opened them again, she had regained her composure: "It's all in the past, and things are as they are now."
Her struggles and anxieties, her wavering, her dejection, her calm, her acceptance...
The brief glimpses of unfamiliarity combined to allow Kazmir to clearly sense the familiar Chang Le, the stubborn and resolute Chang Le, and A Jiu, who stood on the opposite side of him, saying "Those who try to save the world are but mayflies."
Now, she is once again clearly showing herself standing on the opposite side of him, but it is a familiar sight to him.
The Ah Jiu he knew was still there, but she had hidden her away.
Kazmir suddenly realized that his initial resentment, anger, and malice had crumbled without him even knowing what reason he could have to be angry anymore. He simply maintained his usual cold expression and said indifferently, "Didn't you want to talk to me about something? What is it?"
Chang Le said, "It's about the fusion experiment and the mutants."
Kazmir was about to say, "I'm not quite sure about this," when Chang Le said, "But it's okay, I know the answer."
Kazmir: ?
"Tsk." Kazmir narrowed his eyes dangerously. "So you're just here to make fun of me? You little rascal! You're quite the player."
Hearing him call him that again, Chang Le wasn't angry, but he said bluntly, "Kazmir, or Alexei, I am not Andrei, not the little dog you want to submit to, follow, and be loyal to you, and I am not even Ajiu."
