Chapter 600 Natural disasters are the selection process for evolution; "You are not worthy."

Chang Le: "The hotel assassination, the snow worm attack, and informing Ryan and Mira—were all your doing?"

Hao Ren: "Yes. You were already scheming when we met on the Southern Continent Island, weren't you?"

Chang Le: "Yes. So what exactly are your abilities?"

Hao Ren: "I only actually have one ability: [bug]. How can you be sure it's mine?"

Chang Le: "There is definitely more than one reason. The most obvious one is the incident with Xue Heichong. You probably didn't expect that Huang Mingfu, whom you had found to take the blame for you, would happen to be nearby. He was the first to find me and even saved me. The person behind the scenes would not put himself under the suspicious gaze of everyone."

There were only a few people we could lock in for that hotel incident: Snow Black Bug, and you insisted on fighting Ryan yourself during the mecha assessment. After all that picking and choosing, only you make the most sense.

How did you manage to activate the flames of the Snow Black Worm and your [Calculation] ability?

Hao Ren: "The flame is a mark similar to Ryan's secret technique. It can be sealed within the body and used, but there's a limit to the number of times it can be used. [Calculation] is just a facade; I have some talent for calculation. Why didn't you hand me over directly to Li Yunfan?"

Chang Le: "I think there are some things you'd like to tell me, so let's talk about them later."

She pointed to the sky and pouted, "He can hear us talking, but it's not much different from just handing it over to him. You should be grateful that you're spared the pain of being cut open."

Question: Are you a member of the "deification faction"?

Hao Ren: "...Yes."

He closed his eyes briefly to conceal the complex emotions within, then opened them again with a calm expression: "Yes, I have been undercover in the Central Plains for fourteen years."

Question: Chang Le, are you the person we're looking for?

The people in the control room on the other end held their breath because of Hao Ren's question.

Chang Le's lips curled into a cold smile: "Oh, so who are you looking for?"

I suspect I'm either the perfect test subject for experiments, a tool to help you acquire various abilities, or a puppet to help you establish and control a new world order. These people don't have to be me.

“You have a big misunderstanding about us.” Hao Ren frowned.

Chang Le said coldly, "I haven't even asked a question yet, and you've broken the rules."

"Snap!" The vines lashed Hao Ren's back more fiercely than a whip, leaving a hideous bloody welt.

Hao Ren fell off the rock in pain and it took him a while to sit back down. Looking at Chang Le's expressionless face, he suddenly felt that he didn't really know Chang Le.

“Since the rules are broken, let’s invalidate them. Now, I’m in charge.” Chang Le slightly raised his chin.

Hao Ren was already at the mercy of the butcher, with no way to stop him.

"You said you started your undercover work fourteen years ago. Your records show that sixteen years ago, an accident happened in your home. You were kicked out of your house by debt collectors because of your father's debts. While wandering, you encountered an alien species that broke into the city, and your mother and sister were killed. After that, you settled in District One after two years of wandering."

Hao Ren nodded: "That's all true."

"But wandering, it's not really, really wandering, is it?"

Hao Ren frankly stated, "I joined the [God-Making Faction] and accepted participation in their experiments."

"Those two strange things that bumped into me, were they your doing?"

Hao Ren remained silent and did not answer.

Before he could answer, Chang Le asked again, "That type of experiment started sixteen years ago?"

Hao Renwei nodded almost imperceptibly.

Chang Le frowned: "You had outstanding grades in your hometown, and immediately after arriving in District One, you were invited to enroll by colleges. Why did you choose to join them in the first place?"

"After my mother and sister died, I met someone, an old friend who always loved me."

Chang Le's eyes darted around, and he guessed a name: "Lu Sheng?"

Hao Ren gazed at the sky, his eyes filled with longing: "Yes, I met that sir."

It was him! He showed me the true world beyond this chaos! He led me through the door to the pursuit of human evolution! I promised him that I would dedicate my entire life to the great cause of truth and evolution!

Chang Le: Senior Citizen's Mobile Phone on the Subway.jpg

Before Hao Ren could look over, Chang Le composed himself: "You say I misunderstand you, then tell me about your so-called real world and evolutionary path."

Hao Ren stared intently at her, not like someone down on their luck and imprisoned, but rather as if he were having a heated discussion with a colleague in the office:

Chang Le, have you ever thought about this?

Why, after four hundred years of natural disasters, have we humans not become extinct, but instead developed further in strange ways?

Why is it that even though humans have undergone mutations that enable them to cultivate, they have never been able to break the laws of life and death and achieve immortality like in cultivation novels, or even break through the physical limitations of star systems?

Why is it that humanity, despite facing such stark limitations, has consistently managed to withstand those disasters?

Chang Le frowned slightly when he heard him say the word "just right".

What does "just right" mean? Countless outbreaks of alien species and natural disasters, whether in victory or defeat, have buried countless vibrant lives.

How did it end up being "just right"?

Chang Le coldly raised her eyes: "Can you explain these questions?"

"No, no, no, I haven't fully grasped it yet," Hao Ren said, gesturing as he spoke.

"However! We, together with several mysterious and powerful adults, have researched and determined that..."

This is not a disaster at all!

It's not a natural disaster!

Rather, it's a selection mechanism, an opportunity to urge our civilization to ascend to a higher dimension and our race to evolve!

"Above the seemingly cruel and chaotic society are rational and authoritative selection rules!"

We are evolving, and those who can find the secrets of evolution will be the masters of the new order and the creators of a new civilization!
