Chapter Twelve: The Trial of Weigu (Part Five)

Lingyin followed behind, panting heavily. Her arm was gripped so tightly by Mo Junqian that it ached. Just as she was about to complain, she saw a resolute look on Mo Junqian's face that she had never seen before. His eyes were still cold, but she could still sense a trace of tenderness deep in his eyes.

He must be thinking about a girl; that was her first thought.

But what kind of girl could possibly win the heart of someone as cold and aloof as him?

Is she as cold and indifferent as him? Or is she the opposite, a gentle and tender girl?

Strangely enough, at this critical moment, she developed a strong interest in this girl she had never met before.

The beast horde behind them was still rampaging, and cultivators kept smashing their Sky-Piercing Jade. After half an hour, there were still less than thirty people left.

More than half of those thirty people were acquaintances.

Han Jinliang and his team of seven or eight people were desperately trying to escape when someone shouted to him, "Young Master Han, this horde of beasts is too fast! We can't keep running like this! You have to think of something!"

Han Jinliang wanted to yell at him, "What can I do?!" But he maintained his usual gentle and good-natured facade and said, "This beast horde came without warning, and we're no match for them. The only way now is to smash the Sky-Piercing Jade and get to a safe place!"

The man hesitated: "But, but wouldn't that be the same as giving up?"

Han Jinliang patiently said to him, "Besides this, do you have any other options? I'm almost at my limit too. Before the beasts charge up, I'll do the same thing!"

After much deliberation, the man glanced back nervously before finally taking out the jade pendant and smashing it.

Several more people withdrew, and a cunning glint appeared in Han Jinliang's eyes.

By noon, the remaining dozen or so people were exhausted.

Lingyin's cultivation level was low, and being a girl, her strength was quickly exhausted, and her speed gradually decreased. If Mo Junqian hadn't been holding her arm, she would have definitely collapsed to the ground on the spot.

Completely unable to walk any further, Lingyin decided to give up, swinging her arm and stopping, muttering, "I can't go on, I really can't run anymore! Let me rest for a bit..."

Mo Junqian stopped and turned to look at her, his brows furrowed and his expression displeased.

Lingyin glanced at his expression and felt inexplicably annoyed: "I'll just quit, I won't drag you down with me!"

She suddenly stopped, blocking Gu Xiao and Xia Yixuan's way. She was running too fast and couldn't stop in time. Gu Xiao bumped into Lingyin's back. Lingyin was caught off guard and fell forward.

"Catch me! Ouch!"

Lingyin lay on the ground and yelled at Mo Junqian, "I told you to catch me, didn't you hear me! You almost killed me!"

However, Mo Junqian ignored her and didn't help her up. He looked at the beasts so close at hand, and only one thought remained in his mind—

Let's fight them!

Mo Junqian's eyes suddenly sharpened, and he gathered spiritual power throughout his body, preparing for a desperate fight.

Just at this critical moment, a powerful and surging force suddenly surged forth, and with a flash of white light, it instantly drove back the horde of beasts!

Everyone looked up and saw a man and a woman descending from the sky, with a strong wind sweeping around them, blowing up the fallen leaves from the trees.

Mo Junqian's gaze was fixed on the woman, his eyes filled with tenderness, and a slight smile appeared on his lips.

The arrival of Qing and Li Jiang brought a sigh of relief to the rest of the group. Their legs gave way, their minds relaxed, and they all hurriedly sat down on the ground, unable to stand up.

Although the number of beasts was large, they were not difficult for Qing and Li Jiang to deal with. However, they did not kill them all, but instead put the demonic beasts into their Qiankun bags and banished them to the back mountain of Chu Hua Mountain in the future.

Qinghe walked up to Mo Junqian, lightly tapped his forehead, and said in a cool voice, "What's wrong, scared out of your wits?"

Her voice, like a clear spring, flowed gently through Mo Junqian's heart, and he suddenly smiled: "Senior Sister."

Lingyin got up from the ground, and when she looked up, Mo Junqian's smile met her eyes.

So, he can smile after all, and it's such a... gentle smile.

Qinghe also noticed Lingyin and turned his gaze to her.

This unassuming female cultivator must be the female protagonist who disguised herself.

Qinghe's gaze darted between Lingyin and Mojunqian several times.

They seem to get along quite well.

With a day and a half left before the trial ended, after the beast horde's rampage, only a few of the hundred or so participants in the Weigu trial remained. Everyone was exhausted and collapsed on the ground, clearly unable to continue.

Before they arrived, Li Jiang and Qing He had consulted Qi Changfeng and decided that the trial would end here. Although there were not many people left, the top ten were still selected.

When he returned to the sect, a large crowd had gathered at the entrance, demanding an explanation from the Qingyun Sect. Lu Chang dismissed them, claiming that he had mistakenly entered an illusion.

Only a few of them knew whether it was an illusion or not.

Regardless, the addition of fresh blood to the sect is a joyous occasion, and a grand celebration is inevitable. Lu Chang, beaming, snatched the use of the small kitchen from his stingy senior brother, saying he would personally cook a delicious meal to entertain the new disciple.

The front hall was bustling with activity, filled with laughter and cheerful conversation.

It had been a long time since we'd felt this relaxed. Almost everyone was holding a wine glass, not so much tasting as chugging, but practically drinking straight from it. They were also rummaging through the pastries on the table, their eyes darting around as if afraid someone would snatch them away.

In the time it takes for an incense stick to burn, the table was a complete mess. These starving ghosts, who had crawled up from hell, were scrambling for food while also offering toasts to the new disciples. Their large hands patted people's shoulders until they ached, and their eyes held unreadable emotions that sent chills down the spines of onlookers.

The new disciple looked bewildered and scratched his head, asking the person next to him, "Why are they looking at us like that?"

"They're probably afraid we'll take their things..."

"Then why are you laughing, and why is your laughter so eerie?"

"Maybe... they were starving..."

"..."

Qinghe sat in a secluded corner, rubbing the ring on her finger with her fingertips, quietly watching them.

She wouldn't participate in such a frenzy of hungry ghosts.

Mo Junqian and Li Jiang were pulled to the kitchen by Lu Chang to help. The only familiar faces present were Qi Changfeng, Lin Nan, and Mu Dong.

She turned to look at the cheap cook and saw him looking at the mess on the table with a pained expression. There was a wine pot and a few pieces of pastry lying at his feet, and he was mumbling something incoherently.

Lin Nan stood expressionless beside him, and a second before the sect leader was about to explode, he whispered something in his ear.

Qinghe turned his body slightly and twitched his ears.

"Uncle-Master, you should be glad they weren't drinking your peach blossom wine."

These words had a remarkable effect; Qinghe watched helplessly as his cheap master's expression went from gloomy to partly cloudy and then to sunny.

Alcohol makes people dizzy.

The sect leader, whose mind had been numbed by the peach blossom wine, put away his look of heartache and immediately put on an expression of relief.

As for Mu Dong...

Qinghe glanced at the person sitting next to her who was pushing pastries toward her.

Mu Dong noticed someone was watching him. He turned his head and met Qing He's gaze. He sat up abruptly, looked at the pastries that had been pushed in front of her, and explained, "I thought it would be a waste for them to waste them, so I just grabbed some."

Qinghe glanced at the intact pastries in front of her; the variety was quite complete.

Seeing that she had no intention of eating it, Mu Dong's eyes flashed with disappointment. He turned around and said awkwardly, "If you don't like it, just throw it away."

His tone was a little aggrieved; anyone who didn't know better would think someone had done something to him.

After a while, Qinghe's voice came from beside me: "I don't know where you bought it, it's so sweet."

Mu Dong suddenly looked up and saw the person in front of her holding a pastry with a small piece missing between two fingers, with a hint of disdain in their eyes.

Qinghe pushed the pastries toward him: "Want a piece too?"

Mu Dong paused for two seconds, then suddenly smiled, reached out and took a piece, took a bite, and said, "Hmm, it's quite sweet."

The two looked at each other and smiled.

This is the scene that Mo Junqian saw when he brought in the dishes.

He suddenly stopped in his tracks, his eyes fixed on Qinghe and Mudong. He especially noticed the smile on Qinghe's face, and his hand holding the plate tightened abruptly.

He suddenly remembered that Qinghe had never smiled at him like that before, not even a cold smile. She seemed to smile at everyone, but never at him.

Thinking of this, Mo Junqian felt inexplicably annoyed.

Qinghe was frantically gulping down water to wash away the sweet taste in her mouth. Just as she was about to grab the tea from the seat next to her, she turned around and saw Mo Junqian standing behind her, his eyes staring at her intently. Qinghe was so startled that she almost spat out the water she hadn't swallowed yet. Fortunately, her amazing self-control saved her from spitting it out.

He patted his chest and said to Mo Junqian, "Are you done with your work, Uncle-Master?"

Mo Junqian placed the dishes on the table, looked directly at her, and asked a question that seemed unrelated: "How did the pastries taste?"

Qinghe felt a little uncomfortable under his gaze: "It's alright, just a little sweet."

"Senior sister, don't you like sweets?"

"Um."

Mo Junqian raised the corners of her mouth slightly and said in a gentle tone, "Eating too many sweets is not good. Senior Sister, you shouldn't eat any more." With that, she pushed the pastries in front of her away.

Qinghe blinked: "Oh."

Mu Dong spoke coldly, "Junior Brother Mo, didn't Master ask you to go help? Why aren't you going? You've only just entered the sect and you already want to disobey Master's orders?"

Mo Junqian slowly looked at him, their gazes clashed, sparks flew, and a murderous aura spread out.

Seeing that the two were about to fight, Qinghe reacted quickly, slamming his hand on the table and standing up abruptly.

The slap was quite loud. Apart from Mu Dong and Mo Junqian, as well as Lin Nan and Qi Changfeng, who were enjoying the scenery and wine and seemed out of place with the others, everyone else who was still grabbing food and drinking wine instantly stopped and fell silent, staring intently at Qing He.

Qinghe inwardly groaned, glancing at Mu Dong and thinking to herself: I did this to save you! If the protagonist targets you, you're doomed!

Clearing his throat, Qinghe swept his gaze over everyone present, his eyes cold and sharp.

"I'm hungry, why isn't the food here yet?"

"..."

The atmosphere was a little awkward, and Qinghe felt as if a flock of crows were flying overhead.

Just as he was about to sit down as if nothing had happened, a loud shout came from outside that Qinghe had been saved.

"Here it is, here it is, the food is here!"
