Chapter Seventy-Two: The Demon Ghost

Night always comes quickly. Qinghe found an inn at random and was just about to lie down to rest when he suddenly sensed the aura of a demon.

She suddenly stood up, and in a flash appeared in a forest dozens of miles away. She frowned, focused her mind, and looked around.

The darkness provided the demons with the best cover; nothing could be seen with the naked eye. Only when Qinghe activated his Heavenly Eye could he see the surrounding situation clearly.

The once lush and verdant forest had become withered and decaying. The tree trunks were corroded by something, riddled with holes, and black in color, with a faint black, viscous venom dripping down them.

Several low screams echoed from the depths of the dense forest. Qinghe gathered her spiritual power, which materialized and slowly formed a transparent protective shield around her. With a flash, she darted into the depths of the forest.

The ground was stained with blood, mixed with withered leaves, creating a cold and desolate scene.

Two figures lay on the ground. One was in excruciating pain, clutching his bloodied and mangled face, which was corroded by the slime, and letting out a series of agonizing screams. The other person's eyes were wide open, his face unrecognizable, and he lay motionless, clearly lifeless.

These two were the same two female disciples from the Floating Life Pavilion from earlier that day.

"You cowardly demons! All you know is sneak attacks, you dare not come out and face me head-on!"

Ji Yue was covered in blood, one hand covering her face and the other tightly gripping her sword. She looked around in terror, her sword pointing warily at the slightest movement, thinking that this would allow her to kill the demons and protect herself. Little did she know that the demons had already surrounded her.

When Qinghe arrived, he clearly saw several black, ghost-like things floating back and forth beside Jiyue. They had only one eye and no hands or feet. They were all staring intently at Jiyue on the ground. Although they had no expression, Qinghe could see a leisurely and carefree attitude in them.

One of its tails slapped the ground and swept away the leaves. Ji Yue immediately looked down in terror, thrusting her cold sword into the ground as she cried out in fear, "Come out! Come out!"

The demonic ghosts rolled their eyes and let out a loud, cackling laugh, but Ji Yue couldn't hear a thing.

He was clearly just teasing her, and once he was done playing with her, he was ready to unleash his fury.

Several others were gnawing at another dead girl; their sharp teeth weren't tearing at her flesh, but at a transparent, golden object that enveloped her.

Qinghe narrowed his eyes slightly. This thing actually feeds on souls!

The divine soul is the three souls and seven spirits of a cultivator. If one cultivates to become a god, one can break free from the divine soul and escape the suffering of the six cycles of reincarnation. However, if one loses the divine soul before becoming a god, then that person will surely die and will forever lose the opportunity to be reincarnated, becoming a lonely ghost wandering the human world until the three souls are completely dispersed and the person disappears forever, and there will be no more such person in the three realms.

This was the first time Qinghe had encountered a demon that fed on souls since he came down the mountain, and he couldn't help but feel a little interested. Since he had come across it, he might as well use it to practice his skills.

The thought had barely formed when the Great Light Mantra was instantly unleashed, and a long whip was already in his hand.

With a flick of the whip, an icy blue light, mixed with crackling lightning, shot out and fiercely attacked the demon ghost.

The demon ghosts were always alert. Sensing danger, they scattered in all directions and disappeared into the woods in a flash.

Qinghe's lips curled into a smile. How could he let them escape? He raised his hand and swept it, and the powerful spiritual energy surged, stirring up a strong wind. The leaves on the ground were swept up by the wind, as if they had come to life, swirling and floating, gradually forming a large net that trapped several demon ghosts within it.

The net of trees contracted until it was compressed to the size of a head before it came to a stop. Qinghe pulled his hand back and made a "grabbing" motion in the air. The tennis ball flashed and landed in Qinghe's palm.

Qinghe peered into the ball at the few little ghosts inside, then after a moment pursed his lips and said, "I thought they were so powerful, but they were subdued so easily. How boring."

These words not only caused the loss of several demons, but also led to the scorn of the disciples of the Floating Life Pavilion.

Ji Yue, who was on the ground, wanted to thank her benefactor for saving her life, but upon hearing these words, her blood rushed to her head, and she suddenly coughed up a mouthful of blood and fainted.

"Looks like you've got everything sorted out."

Qinghe didn't turn around, and just hummed in response.

Li Jiang walked past her to Ji Yue's side, squatted down and checked her pulse. "Her spirit is fine, just superficial injuries." She then looked at the person next to her and said, "This one is beyond saving."

He stood up and said, "The demon ghost revealed her aura while eating, which is why we were able to sense her. Otherwise, even she wouldn't have been saved." He looked down at the unconscious Ji Yue and said calmly.

Qinghe: "How could demons appear at the foot of Qingshan Mountain?"

Li Jiang shook her head: "Let's go back first."

As night fell, the two finished tending to the body of the deceased girl. Qing and the others put away the net and turned to leave.

Li Jiang called out to her from behind, "What should we do with this person?"

Qing didn't even reply, saying, "Of course you'll carry it."

Li Jiang: "..."

With a sigh, Li Jiang roughly pulled Ji Yue up from the ground, twisted her wrist, and hoisted her onto her shoulder. The pain from the sharp pain in her shoulder bone was so intense that even the unconscious Ji Yue couldn't help but furrow her brows, almost waking up from the pain.

Qinghe joked, "Hey senior brother, how come you don't know how to be gentle with women at all? Even if you can't give her a princess carry, you could at least give her a lover's carry. You're making the girl lose face."

Li Jiang glanced at her sideways: "What do you mean by 'carrying lovers on the back'? You're so talkative. Why don't you do it?"

Qinghe immediately looked up at the sky: "Ah, the moonlight is so beautiful tonight, and the stars are shining just right..."

...

Floating Life Pavilion.

Before the magnificent Lotus City Pavilion, a disciple of the Floating Life Pavilion, dressed in a light blue pine, sat quietly in meditation in the open trial ground. His body was surrounded by spiritual energy, and his hands moved up and down, circulating spiritual energy. In his hands, a glass lamp formed from spiritual energy floated, shimmering with a dark blue light.

This lamp is the natal magic weapon of the disciples of Fusheng Pavilion—the Dream-Guiding Lamp.

Using lamps as a means to lure people into dreams, once in their dreams, that is their domain.

Footsteps approached, and a figure slowly drew near. The disciples rose and bowed, saying in unison, "Senior Sister Jiyue."

She wore a light blue robe embroidered with gilded clouds, and with her fair fingers holding a strand of hair, she said slowly, her eyes sparkling, "My fellow junior sisters, there's no need for formalities. Don't worry about me. Go and cultivate yourselves."

Everyone obeyed the command and sat down to meditate again.

Ji Yue slowly walked through the crowd and entered the Lotus City Pavilion.

The main hall of the city was spacious, and an old man sat on a high seat in the center. He wore a dark gray robe with a white gauze over it, and a gray veil was draped over the back of his head. He had a whisk in his arm and his expression was solemn as he closed his eyes to rest.

As soon as Ji Yue entered, the old man opened his eyes, his sharp gaze sweeping over the people below the stage, and said, "You're back."

Ji Yue bowed respectfully and said, "Yes, Master, your disciple has returned."
