Chapter 172 I'll Take You as My Master

He shook his head and acted like a madman, shouting, "Who? Who is it? Is it you? Is it you? Huh?"

He pointed at Yu Zhi Qiu and Mi Er and spouted nonsense. He even leaned closer to examine them closely before revealing a look of disgust. "No, not you. You don't have that ability."

Mi'er retorted angrily, "What are you saying! How dare you disrespect Miss, believe me or not..."

"Mi'er, don't do anything reckless!" Yu Zhi Qiu glanced at her, her watery eyes revealing a hint of anger.

The old man ignored them and walked over the table to search carefully.

Everyone in the library was puzzled and surprised when they saw the old man.

This old man has been here since the library was built. He manages the library's collection of ten thousand books and the entry and exit of personnel. He is equivalent to the head of the library. Everyone must get his permission to enter or leave the library. Anyone who trespasses without permission will be slapped out without question.

Strangely enough, ever since he arrived, whenever people saw him, he was either sitting there dozing off or sitting there dozing off. His eyes seemed to never be open, and his snoring never stopped. Almost no one had ever seen him awake.

When they first saw an old man rush in, everyone thought there was something wrong with the academy's admission standards, since they had even admitted such an old disciple.

However, despite his thoughts, this senior's strength should not be underestimated. The barrier he used to enter and exit was not something that could be easily broken by just anyone.

"Who is it? Come out! Come out!"

One of the disciples asked, "Senior, who are you looking for?"

The old man seemed to have poor eyesight. He leaned forward to examine the man's face closely, and when he realized that the man wasn't the one he was looking for, he immediately pushed him aside and went to find someone else.

Shen Xun originally came to the library to heal his injuries. His old wounds had not yet healed, and he needed to absorb the spiritual energy of the books every now and then to replenish his spiritual essence.

There were too many people on the first floor, so he looked around and headed to the second floor. As he passed the stairwell, he saw someone looking at him with utter surprise, but he paid no attention and strode up the stairs.

As they approached the corner, the old man shouted, "Stop!"

Shen Xun paused, then turned around: "You called me?"

The old man made exaggerated movements, waving his arms and legs as he ran over, shouting, "Stop! Stop! It's you!"

Shen Xun looked at him calmly, "What is it?"

The old man sized him up, his eyes gleaming with a sharp light, and circled him once, asking, "How did you get through that barrier?"

Shen Xun looked in the direction he pointed and said, "It was a screen. I thought it was just a decorative piece."

The old man wasn't angry at all; instead, he exclaimed excitedly, "You actually passed through my barrier so easily! Who are you?"

Shen Xun ignored him and went upstairs.

The old man persisted, reaching out to grab him, but Shen Xun shook him off. His figure shifted unpredictably in an instant, and before the old man could see clearly, Shen Xun had already passed him and climbed the second flight of stairs.

The old man's eyes gleamed with a sharpness beyond his years as he caught up with Shen Xun and said, "You are more capable than me. I want to become your disciple!"

This time it was Shen Xun's turn to be surprised. He paused, looked at the old man carefully, and said, "You have already done well to reach this level of cultivation. You don't need to find a master."

“But you passed through my barrier! No one has ever done it before, I must become your disciple.”

The old man was very stubborn, standing in front of Shen Xun as if he wouldn't give up until Shen Xun agreed.

Shen Xun: "Do you think it's appropriate for you to become my disciple at your age?"

The old man looked at his small frame, closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and said, "Suitable."

“Alright.” Shen Xun retreated to advance: “I can take you as my disciple, provided that you meet my standards. If you cannot, I will not accept you.”

The old man was overjoyed and nodded repeatedly in agreement.

And so, to everyone's astonishment, the two went up to the second floor.

Yu Zhi Qiu and Mi Er were still blocked outside the door. Seeing that they could not enter the pavilion, they had no choice but to leave first.

The second floor is spacious and has a richer collection of books than the first floor. Moreover, the second floor is protected by a separate barrier, and only those with a certain level of cultivation can go up.

Shen Xun was quite satisfied with the quiet and spacious environment. He found a clean spot, sat cross-legged, and began to absorb the spiritual energy from the book, leaving the old man aside.

The old man initially asked a couple of questions about how he could meet his standards, but Shen Xun ignored him from beginning to end.

He stopped trying to embarrass himself and stayed to the side to watch Shen Xun practice his skills. However, the more he watched, the more overjoyed he became, as if he had seen a rare treasure, his eyes filled with dazzling light.

Shen Xun sat upright with his eyes closed, making complex hand gestures. Golden light gradually appeared, surrounding his body. Before long, countless runes floated out from the bookshelf and continuously flew into his body.

The scene was exactly the same as it had been on Mount Futu, except that the books here were far inferior to those in the divine realm.

Runes accompanied by golden light swirled around Shen Xun, and spiritual light filled the entire second floor, floating to the old man's side.

Looking at the light, the old man felt a sense of solemnity and reverence. It was as if the sound of bells echoed in his ears, pulling him into an ancient and desolate era where everything was undeveloped and the world was vast and empty. His originally turbulent heart gradually calmed down.

He was so engrossed in it that he lost track of time.

In the depths of his mind, he walked alone, surrounded by a vast expanse of gray and nothingness. He didn't know where he was going, yet he never stopped.

After an unknown amount of time, a glimmer of light appeared in the distance. The light approached from afar, then suddenly drifted away just before reaching him, like a cloud, floating aimlessly and freely.

He reached out and touched the light in the air. Although the white light was far away from him, he could still feel a slight warmth in his palm.

"You saw it."

Startled awake, the old man blinked a few times before he could make out the person in front of him and asked, "What is that?"

Shen Xun had already stood up and said upon hearing this, "As you see, it is light, your spiritual light."

"A spiritual light?" The old man tilted his head as if recalling something. "I know countless books in the world, how come I've never heard of a spiritual light?"

Shen Xun smiled and said, "You dare to claim to know all the books in the world in front of me?" He put his hands behind his back, like an old man who had experienced the vicissitudes of life, and said, "The spiritual light comes from the depths of your heart. Since you have seen it and felt the temperature, it means there is still room for improvement. If you have not seen anything, it means you have reached your limit and will not be able to improve any further."

"I see." The old man said with a smile, "There are always people more knowledgeable than I am. It turns out there really are people in this world who know more than I do."

Seeing his naive and unsophisticated appearance, Shen Xun shook his head and said, "It seems that you have met my standards. However, I never accept disciples. You can continue to cultivate in your own way. I will give you some pointers when necessary."

The old man was somewhat reluctant, but seeing Shen Xun's resolute expression, he knew there was no room for negotiation, so he had no choice but to say, "Alright, then I won't call you Master, how about I call you Senior?"

Shen Xun frowned almost imperceptibly. Recalling his previous unpleasant experience, he refused, saying, "Don't call me senior. Call me by my name, Shen Xun."

“Shen Xun…” the old man murmured, “A good name.”

Without lingering on the second floor, Shen Xun turned and went downstairs. Suddenly, the old man behind him called out, "Who exactly are you?"

Shen Xun stopped, tilted his head, and said, "Don't you already have the answer?"

The old man laughed heartily and said nothing more.
