Chapter Forty-Five: The Little Fox

Upon seeing that she was awake, Yuan Xiu withdrew his arm, handed the towel to Qing He, and turned to leave.

Before Miao'er could stop him, he was already gone. She pouted and complained to Qinghe, "Why didn't you stop him?"

Qinghe washed the towel clean and said, "What you should be thinking about now is the Mirror of Reincarnation."

Miao'er said without any worry, "What's there to be afraid of? I have Yuan Xiu to protect me."

Qinghe pondered for a moment and then asked, "Is the Mirror of Reincarnation really that dangerous?"

Miao'er had already gotten up and dressed. Upon hearing this, she said, "It's not dangerous, it's terrifying."

Qinghe: "What's the difference?"

Miao'er: "I've heard from the senior brothers who have been there that the Mirror of Reincarnation tests a person's heart and can release the deepest fears in people's hearts."

Based on her description, Qinghe got a general idea. She had thought it was a trial ground, but it turned out to be just a place similar to a level-based game. Her interest in the Mirror of Reincarnation immediately diminished by more than half.

After finishing the young lady's hair and makeup, Qinghe asked, "Are you going out to play again today?"

Miao'er shook her head: "There are still two days until the Mirror of Reincarnation opens. I plan to go to the back mountain to cultivate. You should come with me." She paused for a moment, then added, "Thinking about how we've spent so much time together these past few days, I still don't know your name."

Qinghe's lips twitched slightly; his reaction time was quite long.

"Xiao Qing".

He made up a random story, and Miao'er nodded, leading her to the back mountain.

Mount Yue is a scenic spot. Even at midday when the sun is at its strongest, the mountains are still shrouded in mist. Standing there, Qinghe feels as if he is a hermit living in seclusion.

There weren't many people cultivating on the back mountain; they were scattered in twos and threes in the small area. Miao'er craned her neck as if looking for someone, but after failing to find anyone, she didn't persist and sat down to enter a state of cultivation.

Besides its beautiful scenery, Yue Mountain is also a sacred mountain, surrounded by spiritual energy, which is even more abundant in the back mountain. Qinghe meditated and cultivated for half an hour, absorbing the spiritual energy of heaven and earth, and even felt a faint sense of breakthrough.

This was not the time to break through. She suppressed the fluctuations in her spiritual sea and pretended to be fine as she continued to meditate, but stopped absorbing spiritual energy.

After sitting quietly for an hour, Qinghe slowly opened her eyes. Just now, she had vaguely felt the divine pearl in her arms tremble. She got up and looked around, but found nothing.

Standing on the mountainside behind the mountain, one can vaguely see human habitation in the distance below, with a small village nestled at the foot of the mountain.

Qinghe wanted to inquire, but seeing Miao'er meditating and the other disciples, he felt it wasn't the right time yet.

Suddenly, Qing heard a rustling sound. He looked down at the grass and saw a red fox lazily lying in the grass, enjoying the sunshine, its head nodding gently, looking very content.

Qinghe squatted down, stuck out a finger and poked it; the fur was quite soft.

I wonder what roasted fox tastes like.

At Qinghe's soft voice, the little fox visibly trembled.

Her slightly narrowed eyes opened, revealing a pair of red pupils. Qinghe suddenly remembered Qi Rong's red pupils, only the ones in front of her were not so bewitching, but had a touch more liveliness.

Foxes are animals that are extremely intelligent and perceptive, especially in this fantasy world, where they are full of spiritual energy. Perhaps the one in front of you is a fox spirit who might one day transform into a bewitching beauty to repay a debt of gratitude.

For example, when Qinghe said "roasted fox," it jumped into Qinghe's arms, rubbed its head against her palm, and blinked its big eyes at her. Qinghe could even see a hint of ingratiation in its expression.

Miao'er, having finished her cultivation at some point, came to Qinghe's side and exclaimed, "Wow, this fox is so beautiful! Let me hug it!"

Just as Qinghe was about to give it to her, the fox stretched out its sharp claws and tore Miao'er's sleeve.

Qinghe: "It seems she doesn't like you."

Miao'er glared fiercely at the little fox, but the little fox didn't even look at her, lazily lying in Qinghe's arms, continuing to bask in the sun.

At noon, Qinghe went to the town at the foot of the mountain to buy some fruits and dried meat, but he didn't expect that the little fox was so picky that he didn't even look at them. Helpless, he could only go back to the courtyard first.

Li Jiang and Mu Dong were also there. They had finally managed to take a break and were chatting idly on the stone benches in the courtyard.

After placing the fruits and dried meat on the stone table, Mu Dong was attracted by the little fox in her arms and immediately leaned forward and asked, "When did you start keeping pets?"

As he spoke, he recklessly touched the little fox, which naturally resulted in several claw marks being left on his hands.

Li Jiang glanced at it once and then looked away; he had never been particularly fond of animals.

Not far away, Mo Junqian and Lingyin walked over together. Lingyin was chatting and laughing with him, but Mo Junqian only nodded occasionally, his expression indifferent.

After several days of doing odd jobs, it was a rare occasion for everyone to gather together. They sat around the stone table, eating the fruits and vegetables that Qinghe had bought, and were quite content.

The little fox shifted restlessly in her arms, perhaps disturbed by the crowd. Qinghe reached out and gently stroked its fur.

Seeing Qinghe's actions, Mo Junqian seemed surprised that such a cold person would be so gentle to a fox, and couldn't help but carefully examine the little fox.

Unfortunately, the little fox was very aloof, and it wouldn't even give a glance to anyone other than Qinghe.

...

Over two days, while serving Miss Miao'er and the fox master, Qinghe finally obtained the Mirror of Reincarnation.

The Water Moon Platform was once again packed with people. The top ten disciples stood in the center of the platform, and Elder Feng was giving them a speech, which mainly consisted of things like paying attention to safety and doing one's best.

At that time, Qi Rong had already hidden Qing He inside the spatial jade pendant. No one knew what method he used, but Feng Lao was indeed completely unaware.

Compared to the outside world, everything inside this space is like a dream, with the starry sky shifting and everything moving as one pleases.

Qi Rong said that this space can transform into various scenes according to people's imagination, so realistic that it is hard to tell the difference.

Qinghe looked around at the endless darkness, which shone like a galaxy, and said, "Is this what you imagine in your mind?"

Qi Rong gazed at her, her red eyes shining even brighter in the darkness. "I like nights like this."

Qinghe commented, "Not bad."

Qi Rong: "What kind of world do you imagine?"

Qinghe raised an eyebrow: "You want to know?"

Looking at her sly smile, Qi Rong had a bad feeling. "I..."

Just as she was about to change the subject, a golden light suddenly appeared in the dark starry sky in the distance. The ball of light got closer and closer, and Qi Rong could see that what was surrounded by the ball of light was actually gold, with gold ingots stacked on top of each other, like a small pyramid.

Qi Rong's lips twitched slightly, but before she could express her opinion, another white light shone from the other end. Upon closer inspection, it was the light reflected from the porcelain plate.

As soon as Qinghe raised her hand, plates of porcelain floated towards her, spiraling upwards around her. Even though Qi Rong wasn't standing close, she could almost smell the aroma of the food.

Steamed bear paws, roast duck, roast goose, chicken wrapped shark fin, spicy phoenix tail... and all kinds of snacks, a complete selection, enough to make up a Manchu Han Imperial Feast.
