Chapter 12 The Boy and the Dog

When Jiang Zhan closed his eyes and waited for death, he suddenly heard a thud, followed by the sound of a knife stabbing into something.

He yelled and leaned against the wall, holding his abdomen.

The walls in the dark alleys never see sunlight all year round, and are still cold and gloomy even in summer.

Jiang Zhan closed his eyes and touched the wall. The slippery touch made him turn pale.

It’s over, it’s over. His blood has flowed all over the wall. Is he dead?

Something was pulling at Jiang Zhan's clothes.

Jiang Zhan's head buzzed.

The Ox-Head and Horse-Faced Demons are here to claim your life so soon?

No, he can't die. His sister is still waiting for his reply at home!

Jiang Zhan suddenly opened his eyes and faced the "Ox-Headed and Horse-Faced Monster" who was pulling his clothes.

The erect ears, the long face, the protruding nose, and the thick gray-yellow hair...

Well, this appearance is a world away from the "Ox Head", it should be a Horse Face!

Jiang Zhan studied it for a long time and came to a careful conclusion.

"Brother Ma, I can't die yet. I have a disabled old father and a weak little sister. They still rely on me for support. Please be kind and let me return to life——"

The "Horse-Faced Monster" bared his teeth: "Woof——"

Jiang Zhan felt as if someone had grabbed his neck in an instant, unable to utter a word. He stared with wide eyes at the "Horse-faced Monster" who shouted "Woof" at him.

Something seems to be wrong.

"Erniu, come back!" A faint voice came.

Jiang Zhan was startled and turned his head suddenly, and saw a young man standing about ten feet away.

The young man looked to be about seventeen or eighteen years old, but was actually two inches taller than him, with high eyebrows, dark eyes, and an almost expressionless face as if it were an ice sculpture, like a famous sword hidden in its scabbard, someone who no one could underestimate.

"Who are you?" Jiang Zhan was surprised.

"People." The boy replied.

"Then what is it--" Jiang Zhan lowered his head with difficulty, pointing at the "Horse-faced Monster" who limped to the young man with a complicated expression.

The young man looked at Jiang Zhan deeply and uttered one word: "Dog."

At that moment, Jiang Zhan actually saw a hint of smile in the young man's deep eyes.

"Cough cough cough." Jiang Zhan could only cough to cover up his embarrassment.

The boy rubbed the big dog's head and reminded him, "If you don't leave now, this guy will wake up."

Jiang Zhan lowered his head and realized that the person who had attacked him earlier was lying at his feet.

"He's dead?"

"No, I just fainted."

Jiang Zhan looked at his hands, and saw something dark green on his fingertips. He murmured, "What is this?"

"Moss." The boy said in a calm voice, and pointed considerately, "On the wall."

Jiang Zhan looked in the direction he was looking, and only then did he understand where that slippery feeling came from.

It turned out that it was not his blood, but moss!

This realization made Jiang Zhan blush instantly, and he said awkwardly: "Then let's run quickly."

"Okay, let's run together." The boy nodded seriously.

A strange thought arose in Jiang Zhan's mind.

For some reason, this young man gave him the feeling that he was particularly friendly to him even though he clearly said no strangers were allowed.

Is this the advantage of being handsome?

That's not right, this boy is obviously a little more handsome than him.

Maybe this is what it means to appreciate each other.

The two men and the dog ran out of the dark and narrow alley and ran to the busy and lively street in one breath.

In the sunlight, Jiang Zhan felt like he had survived a disaster. He let out a long breath, cupped his fists and smiled at the young man, "Thank you for saving my life, brother. What's your name?"

The young man paused for a moment and said, "You can call me Yu Qi."

After saying that, he did not forget to introduce the big dog beside him: "Its name is Erniu."

Seeing that the boy was one or two years older than him, Jiang Zhan called out "Brother Yu Qi" and then waved to the big dog: "Erniu, hello."

The big dog looked at Jiang Zhan with contempt and turned his head away.

I was actually looked down upon by a dog. It was just because I mistook it for a "horse-faced monster". The little beast still remembers it!

Jiang Zhan snorted and asked Yu Qi: "I don't know where Brother Yu Qi lives. I will definitely come to thank you someday."

If Brother Yu Qi wanted to do good deeds without leaving his name and refused to reveal his address, he would be beaten to death.

Jiang Zhan is not the kind of person who would not repay a favor.

"My home is in Quezi Hutong. There is a crooked jujube tree at the door."

Jiang Zhan began to feel depressed again.

Why didn't his savior follow the script?

"What a coincidence! Quezi Hutong is not far from my home. My surname is Jiang and my given name is Zhan. I live in Yuqian Hutong, which is not far from Quezi Hutong. I am the second oldest among the grandchildren of the Duke of Dongping's family."

"Jiang Zhan." Yu Qi repeated with a smile.

"Yes, yes, it's Jiang Zhan." Jiang Zhan's scalp numbed when he heard the young man pronounce his name in a mellow and clear voice.

Damn, where did this monster come from? His voice is so nice, even a man's heart beats fast just by listening to it.

“Woof——”

Jiang Zhan looked at the big dog with a dark face, and the corner of his mouth twitched.

What a spoilsport.

The big dog turned his head away in disdain.

"Brother Yu Qi, I have something else to do and I have to go back quickly. I will come to you as soon as I finish my work."

"Okay." Yu Qi nodded, speaking concisely.

"When is Brother Yu Qi usually home?"

Yu Qi's lips curved slightly: "I'm always at your service."

No, no, if he continued talking, he would doubt his life. Jiang Zhan thanked him again and hurried back to the Duke of Dongping's mansion.

The flowers and trees in the center of the crabapple tree form a shade, and a cicada hiding somewhere is chirping non-stop.

Jiang Si was leaning against the crabapple tree, reading a book, but his mind was absent-minded.

Why hasn't my second brother come back yet? Did something happen to him?

"Miss, the second young master is here." Aqiao opened the gate and led Jiang Zhan over.

"Fourth sister——"

Jiang Si shook his head and stopped Jiang Zhan from saying anything else: "Let's talk inside."

As soon as he entered the room, Jiang Zhan sat down and said to Aqiao without any courtesy, "Quickly bring me a cup of tea to calm my nerves."

Aqiao glanced at Jiang Si.

Jiang Si nodded slightly, and Aqiao left and quickly brought back the tea.

Jiang Si motioned for Aqiao to wait outside. After Jiang Zhan patiently drank half a cup of tea in one breath, he asked, "What happened to Second Brother?"

Jiang Zhan put the teacup on the table, took out a handkerchief and wiped the corner of his mouth casually, sighing: "Fourth sister, you really got it right. Sure enough, someone went to the dark alley to get the bamboo."

Jiang Si frowned: "Brother, didn't you leave immediately after putting your things away?"

He is indeed an unreliable brother.

Jiang Zhan smiled awkwardly: "I'm just curious whether anyone is coming."

"And what happened next?"

"Someone came and took the bamboo away. But before I could leave, someone else came!"

"Someone else has come? Has he seen my second brother?"

"How could that be possible!" Jiang Zhan denied without hesitation. Meeting Jiang Si's inquiring gaze, he confessed honestly, "I saw it. Not only did I see it, but that person also wanted to kill me."

"How did second brother escape?" Jiang Si was terrified when he heard this.

Jiang Zhan drank the rest of the tea and suppressed the urge to brag: "Before I could finish my words, another person has arrived!"

Jiang Si: “…”

She is also very distressed because her brother is so irrational.
