The cell door slammed shut. Only Zheng Yu and He Yi remained, staring at each other in bewilderment. He Yi looked around; there was a layer of damp straw on the ground, while the area near the wall in the distance seemed slightly drier.
She waved her arm, and some fat, big-eared rats scurried away and disappeared completely. Only then did He Yi sit down against the wall.
Zheng Yu was clearly exhausted as well. He sat opposite Zheng Heyi, looking at the red marks on her wrists with great heartache: "Does it hurt? Let me rub it for you."
He Yi shook her head and pointed to his back: "You're still covered in wounds yourself, so why are you worrying about me? How's your back? Does it hurt?"
"This? It's nothing, just a minor injury." Zheng Yu smiled helplessly, probably trying to ease the tension. "Heyi, why did you say that just now? Where did you get a thousand taels of silver and a hundred acres of paddy fields?"
He Yi sighed: "Are you stupid? If he makes a deal with us, we can go down the mountain and be surrounded by our people. Don't you know how to find the government office?"
Zheng Yu laughed, "We're on the same page." He Yi looked at him, "Actually, I know you did this to save me, but you can't risk the Zheng family's livelihood. My father is a miser; if he knew you made such a promise, he'd be furious."
At this point, He Yi suddenly laughed.
If bandits were to actually come to their home, the one who would truly be furious would not be Minister Zheng, but Lady Lin.
He Yi sighed, "I said that because I wanted Cao Shangfei to think I was more valuable, and maybe he would really let you go."
[The villainous female supporting character's thought process... is truly refreshingly unique.]
Is this a case of making empty promises? That's incredibly bold!
[The male protagonist's inner monologue: Could it be because of me? Oh, it must be because of me]
"You!" Zheng Yu was slightly stunned, feeling both moved and helpless. She said with sorrow, "How could you gamble with your own life? What if he actually believed it?"
“Then let’s make a cold scrambled egg salad,” He Yi said with a smile, but her eyes quickly turned serious. “If I could go down the mountain, I could handle them. It’s just a pity that the leader isn’t an idiot…”
At this point, He Yi finally found an opportunity, "Actually, I can't just stand by and watch you sacrifice so much for me. Zheng Yu, we're just siblings, you shouldn't..."
"Are we really just siblings?" Zheng Yu interrupted her rudely, his eyes burning like flames. "He Yi, tell me, really... just siblings?"
He Yi felt a little flustered by his gaze.
"Of course! Of course! You are my brother."
Here it comes! A memorable scene of emotional turmoil!
[You stubborn villainous supporting character, keep being stubborn! You're just asking for trouble.]
[Poor male protagonist: I don't believe it, I don't believe it]
Zheng Yu suddenly fell silent and sat quietly in the distance.
He Yi noticed a hint of sadness and loneliness in his eyes, but Zheng Yu quickly rallied: "Alright, even if we're siblings, I won't let anything happen to you."
The two had nothing more to say to each other, and only their heavy breathing filled the cell.
After an unknown amount of time, a bandit came in carrying two bowls of spoiled rice, threw them inside the fence, and muttered irritably, "Eat up!" Zheng Yu frowned and pushed one of the bowls to He Yi: "You can eat a little bit."
He Yi smelled the musty, stinky odor, her stomach churned, and she shook her head, refusing to even look at it. "I really can't eat!"
This prison food looks better than pig slop, oh no, it looks disgusting.
[This vicious female supporting character has never suffered like this before!]
[Zheng Yu, think of something quick! How can you date if you're starving?]
Zheng Yu also lost his appetite. He looked at He Yi and noticed that her face was a little off, flushed red, and there were many fine beads of sweat on her forehead, which were rushing down her hairline.
Seeing this, Zheng Yu was terrified and instinctively reached out, "He Yi, what's wrong? Don't scare me, why do you look so pale?!" Zhen Yu hurriedly reached out to touch her forehead, but He Yi quickly dodged away.
"Brother, I'm fine! I'm probably just a little hot." He Yi's voice was a little heavy, and she forced a smile. Zheng Yu was naturally worried when he saw her like this, and when she wasn't paying attention, he finally reached out and placed his hand on her forehead.
After trying it, Zheng Yu immediately felt a scalding heat to the touch! He quickly stood up.
"Heyi, you have a fever!" he exclaimed in alarm. "Hang in there, I'll try to get someone to bring you medicine." Zhenyu quickly got up and banged on the door, shouting at the top of her lungs.
"Open the door! Open the door! My sister has a fever! Quick, get a doctor!"
Zheng Heyi felt completely dazed; the noise was driving her crazy. This was the first time she had ever seen Zheng Yu so panicked. The bandits outside the door cursed impatiently, "What a jinx! What's all the noise about! You're not going to die! Making such a racket in the middle of the night, can't a person get any sleep?!"
[Help! She has a fever! Quick, check what's wrong with the female supporting character? How do you get medical treatment in prison?]
Find a doctor quickly.
[Hey, hey, hey, who said they don't like it? Look at Zheng Yu, he's as anxious as an ant on a hot pan!]
"My sister really has a fever! It's very serious! If you don't take care of her, she could die! She's going to be the bandit's wife!" Zheng Yu shouted anxiously, pounding on the door.
But the bandits guarding the gate ignored him completely and instead cursed at him, telling him to shut up.
Zheng Yu was furious and embarrassed, but there was nothing he could do.
He rushed back to He Yi's side and, seeing her delirious fever, quickly hugged her. "He Yi, let's hold on a little longer. Listen to your brother, I will definitely find a way to get you out of here!"
Zheng Yu leaned close to He Yi's ear and whispered softly. He Yi groggily opened her eyes, looked at him, and forced a painful smile: "Zheng Yu, I'm sorry, it seems I'm going to cause you trouble again!"
"Don't talk nonsense!" Zheng Yu solemnly grasped He Yi's hand. "I told you, with me here, you won't have any problems."
[Sobbing! I'm crying so hard, what an amazing love story!]
Does this mean we have to go to both ends? This is so heartbreaking.
[Get well soon, He Yi!]
Night deepened, and with the arrival of darkness, the temperature in the cell dropped even lower. He Yi curled up uncomfortably in the corner, shivering all over, yet her forehead was alarmingly hot. Zheng Yu took off his outer robe and draped it over He Yi, wanting to offer her some warmth.
“Zheng Yu…brother,” He Yi murmured softly, leaning against Zheng Yu’s chest, “Brother, brother, I’m so cold.” He Yi’s teeth were chattering violently, and even though she was being held, she was still shivering from the cold.
"Don't be afraid, I'm here! Brother's here, brother's here!" Zheng Yu gently patted He Yi's back, but his heart was filled with anxiety. They had to find a way out and find a doctor to examine He Yi immediately.
