Chapter 96 Give Me Back What I Took

The carriage had already started moving, and Zheng Yu casually tossed a thick booklet to him from the side.

"Take a look."

Zheng Yu's voice was as cold as ice. "The items recently stolen from the Minister's residence are all here. Mr. Sun, take a good look." Upon hearing this, Sun Sanlang's hands trembled as he opened the booklet.

He stared at the jade artifacts, paintings, and calligraphy listed above, his heart pounding with fear, his face growing paler with each glance. He abruptly looked up, startled, at Zheng Yu and He Yi. "What? You...you are..."

"I am Zheng Yu, the only son of Minister Zheng." Zheng Yu slowly revealed his identity. His eyes were cold and sharp as he angrily rebuked, "How did these things get from the Minister's residence to your family? I am very curious. My father is upright and incorruptible and would never go to such a lowly place, much less gamble."

[Sun Sanlang is doomed! He's offended the Minister's mansion; he's doomed!]

He Yi also looked at the other person. She took out a handkerchief to cover her mouth and nose, and her sharp eyes were fixed on Sun Sanlang.

At this moment, Sun Sanlang was already terrified and wet himself. He Yi covered her nostrils, her eyes filled with disgust: "Tell me! Did Lin give you these things? What else did she say to you?"

Mentioning Lin, a complex expression flashed across Sun Sanlang's face, a mixture of greed and disdain: "It was...it was your concubine Lin from your household who gave it to me. She said...she said that if I kept it for her temporarily, she would travel the world with me in the future..."

But Sun Sanlang quickly sneered and curled his lip, "But I don't believe her nonsense! How could the wife of a high-ranking official run away with a gambling den owner like me? She just wants to use me!"

With a resounding "slap," a loud slap landed on Sun Sanlang's face. Zheng Yu stared intently at him, his eyes sharp as weapons, and demanded, "Where are the things? Where are they now?"

Sun Sanlang covered his face, no longer daring to hide anything. He stammered, "It's...it's all in the cellar...at this moment I...I'll...I'll take you there..."

A moment later, the carriage stopped in a secluded corner of the gambling den's backyard. Sun Sanlang trembled as he opened the hidden door to his cellar, and a damp, musty smell wafted out.

Zheng Yu followed closely behind, grabbing He Yi's sleeve as they entered. He lit a tinderbox, and He Yi followed. The cellar was surprisingly deep, and the deeper they went, the more unpleasant the smell became.

After walking only ten meters or so, the musty smell of the air already made her want to vomit. If her treasures hadn't been moved here, He Yi wouldn't have come here at all.

After a long while, the three of them seemed to have reached the end of the cellar. The light from the tinderbox illuminated the mountain of gold and silver jewelry. Zheng Yu looked over there and realized that it was the same item recorded in the register that had been "stolen" from the Minister's mansion!

"It's here after all!" Seeing that everything was still there, He Yi breathed a sigh of relief. Thank goodness, it hadn't been taken away.

But then He Yi frowned. It was strange. They had reached the end of the cellar, so why was there a fishy smell? The smell was like that of some kind of animal.

Rubbing his nose, he realized that the stench seemed even stronger than when he first entered the cellar.

Just then, Zheng Yu's tinderbox illuminated a pile of straw in the corner. Beneath the straw lay a person! He Yi couldn't help but gasp softly and look at the person. Zheng Yu gripped the tinderbox tightly and stepped forward to part the straw.

It turned out that it wasn't a living person, but a long-dead and decaying corpse, which was covered by straw and hadn't been revealed for a while.

Upon opening the door, a corpse was revealed! Zheng Yu looked down and stared at the body, noticing that the deceased was dressed in servant's clothes, but a gleaming dagger was stuck in his chest, and the blood at the wound had already congealed.

"Ah!" Clearly, Sun Sanlang also saw the corpse and was immediately terrified.

"This...this wasn't me! I didn't know there were bodies here!"

[Holy crap! Someone's dead!]

[The plot is getting more and more exciting!]

Who killed this person? Could it be related to the Lin family?

Zheng Yu turned around with a sinister look. He naturally suspected that this person was either Sun Sanlang's partner or someone who had been killed by Sun Sanlang for stealing something. After dealing with that person, Sun Sanlang was worried about exposing the secret, so he did not transport the body out for a while.

After all, destroying evidence after murder is more difficult than murder itself. Zheng Yu turned around and glared at Sun Sanlang. Just as he was about to speak, Sun Sanlang suddenly burst into wild laughter behind him.

"Hahaha! Zheng Yu! Zheng Heyi! You see? Someone died here! You come down with me, you'll be the best witnesses! There's no road ahead, so you can be buried with this silver and this guy!" With that, Sun Sanlang turned and ran towards the entrance of the cellar.

"Oh no!" He Yi exclaimed.

But Zheng Yu seemed unperturbed, a sinister smirk playing on his lips. Just as Sun Sanlang was about to step onto the stairs, Zheng Yu subtly reached out and yanked the rope in his hand... Sun Sanlang fell flat on his face, then moved towards the two of them at lightning speed.

It turned out that when they entered the cellar, Zheng Yu had taken advantage of Sun Sanlang's inattention and tied a rope that had been placed in the carriage to his ankle!

He had prepared the rope in case of emergency, but unexpectedly it actually came in handy. With a cry of "Ah!", Sun Sanlang was caught off guard and tripped by the rope, falling heavily to the ground.

Sun Sanlang rolled down the steps and landed right at Zheng Yu's feet.

"Mr. Sun, don't be impatient and rush to leave. Look, we meet again. Are you alright?" Zheng Yu looked at Sun Sanlang with a smile.

At this moment, Sun Sanlang looked at Zheng Yu in shock, completely bewildered as to when the other party had attacked him.

"you!"

Zheng Yu looked down at Sun Sanlang, his eyes devoid of warmth: "Boss Sun, do you think I'd give you a chance?" With that, he raised his foot and kicked Sun Sanlang hard in the stomach. Sun Sanlang curled up in pain, but Zheng Yu grabbed him by the hair and dragged him to the corpse.

"Speak! Who is this person? Why did he die here?"

Sun Sanlang grimaced in pain, staring at the corpse before him, then at Zheng Yu's cold eyes, and finally broke down completely: "I...I don't know! This body suddenly appeared in the cellar a few days ago! I was afraid of getting into trouble, so I covered it with straw...I really didn't kill it!"

[Sun Sanlang wasn't lying? Then who killed him?]

Zheng Yu stared at him for a long time, and seeing that he didn't seem to be lying, she snorted coldly and threw him to the ground. Zheng Yu stood up, "Boss Sun, a wise man submits to circumstances. Tell the truth now, or this corpse will be your fate!"
