Zheng Yu sat by the window.
He changed into casual clothes, let his long black hair down, and his delicate features softened under the dim light, making his handsome eyes less cold.
He Yi was mesmerized.
This man is absolutely gorgeous!
"who."
Zheng Yu keenly sensed He Yi's presence.
He Yi shrank back: His insight is terrifying!
She stepped forward with the food box in her hand: "Brother, it's me. I've been thinking about the hairpins you made for me and can't wait to see them."
Zheng Yu's beautiful eyebrows furrowed slightly.
A slender figure stepped out in the moonlight.
He Yi, dressed in a light pink loungewear outfit, with no hair accessories and no makeup, walked gracefully towards them carrying a lantern.
She wasn't as refined as when she was eating.
But the cleaner and cleaner it looks, the more alluring it becomes.
Zheng Yu withdrew his gaze, his tone several degrees colder than during the meal: "I will have someone deliver it to you tomorrow."
He Yi handed the food box in: "I can't sleep and want to talk to my brother. This is a soup of small glutinous rice balls that I made myself. It's my brother's favorite. Try it and see if it's the same as the one I made when I was little."
Her chin rested on her two small hands clinging to the windowsill, and her blinking eyes looked incredibly innocent.
Zheng Yu coldly refused: "I never eat late-night snacks. Get out."
Will He Yi back down?
Of course not, she directly scooped up a small glutinous rice ball and brought it to Zheng Yu's lips: "Brother, have a taste, just one bite."
Zheng Yu's patience had finally run its course.
Just as he was about to say something, He Yi grunted, "My arm is sore. I injured this arm when I was little because of my older brother."
Zheng Yu: "..."
He disliked people getting close to him since he was a child, but his stepsister loved to cling to him. Once, he accidentally pushed her onto a rockery and injured her arm.
He pursed his lips, hesitated and struggled for a long time, and finally took He Yi's hand and ate the little dumpling into his mouth.
He Yi chuckled inwardly: People who only respond to gentleness and not force are so easy to manipulate!
She asked, "Does it taste the same as before?"
Zheng Yu's face was grim, and he simply hummed in response.
He Yi smiled, her eyes narrowed.
Sui'er would add rose petal juice to the glutinous rice ball soup, creating a unique flavor that no one else could replicate.
"The same is fine, brother, please eat more."
Zheng Yu: "I still need to study. You can leave now."
"Brother, you study your books, I'll just stay here and watch you."
Since he wouldn't open the door, He Yi simply sat down by the window.
She rested her chin on her hand, looking at the orchids in the yard: "I'm afraid that when I wake up I'll find it's all a dream, and I'm still living in that cramped little house, with all the men around me looking at me with greedy eyes."
“Although I have adoptive parents to protect me, they can’t protect me for long. I can only dress myself up in a dirty and messy way so that I can survive.”
Zheng Yu's impatience vanished in an instant.
He lowered his eyes and could only see a round, chubby back of a head.
He Yi said softly, "I don't know who hurt me back then, but I'm already like this, and I can never go back. I know Father feels guilty towards me, so I can't show fear or unease. I have to smile, smile all the time, so that Father won't feel even more guilty."
As she spoke, He Yi tilted her head to look at Zheng Yu.
"Brother, am I a good boy/girl?"
Under the moonlight.
He Yi's face was spotless without any makeup, and her clear eyes were like a spring, so pure it was breathtaking.
Holy crap, the villainous female supporting character is incredibly cunning!
What is the ultimate contrast? This is the ultimate allure of contrast that can make men fall head over heels!
[She's clearly pitiful, but she pretends to be strong and even deliberately asks the other person to praise her, directly triggering a man's protective instincts! So seductive! I've learned it!]
[Zheng Yu, you better hold on, you bastard! Don't let yourself be hooked by that villainous female supporting character!!]
Zheng Yu, as if possessed, actually hummed in response.
After saying that, his eyes flickered, and he added, "Don't think too much. You're back now, so you don't have to suffer anymore."
He Yi got up.
She leaned towards Zheng Yu, her hands resting on the windowsill.
Zheng Yu felt a fragrant breeze waft towards him, followed by He Yi's enlarged, beautiful face.
She reached out her hand.
"Where's my hairpin? My brother hasn't given it to me yet."
Zheng Yu's gaze sharpened for a moment, then he turned around without changing his expression: "Wait."
He Yi was somewhat disappointed.
Zheng Yu's demeanor was too nonchalant.
It seems she still has a lot of work to do.
A short while later, Zheng Yu came out of the inner room carrying a box.
It was a lacquered red wooden box. Inside, seven wooden hairpins lay quietly, each one shaped like a flower.
There are plum blossoms, orchids, and lotus flowers.
Each one is so lifelike, showing the sculptor's dedication.
Zheng Yu handed the box to He Yi: "Seven years, seven hairpins."
He Yi cupped her hands around her heart: "They're all so beautiful! Every single one of them is so pretty. Brother, you're so good to me!"
As she spoke, she poked her little head in front of Zheng Yu.
"Brother, let me try it on."
Zheng Yu should have refused.
Even if you are indeed a child of someone from the past, you are not related by blood, so you should keep your distance.
But looking at He Yi's expectant face...
He couldn't bring himself to refuse. He took out a plum blossom hairpin from the wooden box, wrapped his hands around He Yi's black hair, and tied it into a simple bun at the back of her head.
From his angle, you can see He Yi's neck.
The girl's neck was slender and fair.
What should have stirred romantic thoughts in Zheng Yu instead revealed a small scar peeking out from under her neck.
