Zheng Yu reached out, seemingly wanting to ruffle He Yi's hair as he had done when they first met, but his fingers paused in mid-air.
In the end... he just smiled gently: "Silly girl, I won't let you get involved in these things anymore. Just stay here and wait for me."
Upon hearing this, He Yi felt her heart skip a beat, and her cheeks involuntarily flushed. She quickly lowered her head, pretending to straighten her sleeves.
"I know, brother is the best, he can solve anything."
As the carriage entered the gates of the Minister's residence, dawn was breaking. Zheng Yu alighted first, then carefully helped He Yi down, his gaze lingering on her face for a few seconds, his eyes so tender they seemed to overflow with affection.
[Ahhh! That little detail of helping her out of the car! I'm totally smitten!]
Something's not right here. Are they really siblings?
[Heyi blushed! I saw it!]
The two went to the storeroom first, and only after watching the servants register all the items and confirm that nothing was missing did they finally breathe a sigh of relief. He Yi was exhausted, yawned, and rubbed her eyes.
Seeing that He Yi was so sleepy that she could barely keep her eyes open, Zheng Yu approached her and gently comforted her, "Are you tired? Go see your father first, and then go back to rest immediately."
He Yi nodded. When she arrived at the door of Minister Zheng's room, she saw the maid Qingju. Qingju had been brought to Minister Zheng's room yesterday and was now happily greeting him.
"Young Master! Miss! You're back! Master is much better today! He ate a small bowl of porridge this morning and even had us help him take a stroll around the courtyard!"
Upon hearing this, He Yi immediately perked up. As long as her father was well, she was naturally happy too. He Yi quickly walked into the room and saw Minister Zheng leaning against the headboard. Although his face was slightly pale, it was much better than before.
Even his eyes, which were still cloudy yesterday, were much clearer today. Minister Zheng wanted to get up, but Zheng Yu hurriedly came closer, "Father, you should just lie down."
Seeing He Yi and Zheng Yu enter, Minister Zheng smiled weakly and said, "Yu'er, Sui'er, you're back."
"father!"
He Yi quickly went to the bedside and gently hugged Minister Zheng before looking at his sallow face. "Father, how are you feeling right now? Qingju said you were able to get out of bed and walk today? That's amazing."
Looking at He Yi, Minister Zheng suddenly thought of Zheng Yutang. When he fell ill and fainted that day, He Yi and Zheng Yu were busy taking care of him. In stark contrast to He Yi was Zheng Yutang's attitude towards him.
Zheng Yutang was clearly "terrified," as if his illness would never get better, and Zheng Yutang really wished he could get as far away as possible.
No matter how busy He Yi is lately, she always comes to see him every day, but what about Zheng Yutang? She has already fled to Java. She seems to be very worried that she will become a corpse. Thinking of this, Minister Zheng feels a tightness in his chest.
Minister Zheng held He Yi's hand and nodded slightly.
He patted He Yi's hand reassuringly: "Sui'er, Daddy is feeling much better. I feel like I have some strength back. You must be tired too, go and rest."
Zheng Yu stood aside and noticed that her father's complexion had indeed improved a lot. The tension that had lasted all night finally eased, and a relieved smile appeared in his eyes.
"You should rest well. Your son and Sui'er are here to take care of everything else, so you don't need to worry about anything else."
[The old man is getting better! That's wonderful! I was so worried before.]
The family is finally showing some signs of warmth and harmony.
Stepping out of her father's room, He Yi felt utterly exhausted. Zheng Yu, seeing He Yi yawning repeatedly, couldn't help but chuckle: "Alright, go to sleep."
He Yi nodded and was about to turn around.
But then she heard Zheng Yu call her name gently again. He Yi turned around and saw Zheng Yu standing under the eaves. The morning light shone on him, outlining a very soft silhouette. In the morning sun, he seemed to radiate a comforting golden glow.
He gazed at He Yi with tender affection, his eyes holding an indescribable look.
He said softly, "Rest first. Don't think about anything else. I'll take care of everything. I'll take you back to the Princess's residence tonight."
He Yi blushed, as if the more things they experienced, the more their feelings for each other changed.
He Yi nodded, "Alright." Back in her original room, He Yi fell asleep immediately and didn't wake up until evening.
After dinner, for some reason, she started having all sorts of wild thoughts. Now, looking at the courtyard with the sun setting, He Yi's mind was in complete turmoil, and she kept recalling the way Zheng Yu looked at her during the day.
And then there was that line, "Tonight, I'll escort you back to the Princess's residence." As darkness fell, Qingju came in to light the lamps and said softly, "Princess, the eldest young master is waiting outside and says he'll escort you back."
He Yi's heart suddenly seemed to be seized by something unseen. She nervously straightened her clothes before slowly walking out.
Zheng Yu stood in the moonlight at the courtyard gate, holding a snow-white lantern in his hand. When he saw He Yi come out, he handed the lantern to her and gently reminded her, "Let's go back to the Princess's residence."
The two walked out of the Minister's residence side by side. At this moment, apart from the crescent moon overhead, only the halo of lantern light spilled onto the ground, like shimmering mercury.
But the chirping of insects filled their ears, and the two took a breath and continued walking.
They remained silent the entire way, and the atmosphere grew increasingly awkward.
When they reached the vicinity of the Princess's residence, Zheng Yu stopped and looked at Zheng Heyi with a smile: "Go in and get some rest." Heyi hummed in agreement, but did not go in immediately. Instead, she turned to look at him.
Under the moonlight, Zheng Yu's profile was exceptionally defined. Perhaps the hard work of the past few days had taken its toll on him; his cheekbones were high, which made his eyes appear even more profound.
The two stared at each other, and He Yi felt her heart beating faster and faster, almost as if it would jump out of her chest.
[Ahhh! They made eye contact! The atmosphere is so ambiguous!]
[Zheng Yu's gaze... does it mean he likes her? He definitely does!]
[You wicked female supporting character, hurry back, or something bad will happen!]
He Yi composed herself, cleared her mind of distractions, and hurriedly said to Zheng Yu, "Brother, you should rest early when you get back," before turning and running into the courtyard.
She scrambled to her feet and slammed the door shut. Leaning stiffly against the door, she realized her palms were sweaty and her heart was pounding wildly, completely out of control.
It's really strange. In this story, Zheng Heyi saw the comments on the screen, even though her official partner was Gu Minghe.
But why does she feel nervous and her heart race when she sees Zheng Yu? Why does Zheng Yu's gaze make He Yi blush?
Could it be... could it be that she has fallen for Zheng Yu?
