Chapter 65 Jumping into the River

Chapter 65 Jumping into the River

After the vegetable garden was cleared, Molly couldn't wait to sow the seeds and grains. She woke up early that morning, washed up, kneaded the dough and let it rise, and then took the seeds and went to the vegetable garden by herself.

It was still dark, and there were few people outside, including in the vegetable garden next door.

Molly sowed the vegetable seeds first, then started planting peanuts and beans. She was engrossed in her work, completely absorbed and focused. She didn't notice a person jogging nearby, who was watching her intently.

Monika has a habit of exercising in the morning, running a few laps behind the camp every morning. She knows which plot of land is Molly's vegetable garden and has seen Molly working in the garden with her two children.

Monika still can't understand how she could lose to a woman who only knows how to grow vegetables and farm. And this woman is so ridiculous, helping someone raise a child on the condition that she has a few acres of wasteland.

"Is she out of her mind?" That was Monica's first reaction when she heard about it.

But others say Molly is kind-hearted.

Is he kind-hearted?

Moni Jia didn't believe it. Time would tell. She'd see how long Moni Jia could keep up the act.

Monica looked away and continued running. But after running only a few meters, she saw a little girl covered in patches walking listlessly toward the riverbank.

"Hey, whose child are you? Where are you going?" she called out.

The child, however, seemed deaf, ignoring him and continuing to walk towards the river.

Seeing the little girl getting closer and closer to the riverbank, Monica didn't care about anything else and ran after her.

"Stop right there!" Monica was getting anxious as the girl had already reached the riverbank.

The girl glanced back at her without saying a word, and under Monica's horrified gaze, the girl jumped into the river with all her might.

Thump!

Ripples spread across the river, but the girl was nowhere to be seen.

Monica gritted her teeth, took off her shoes, and jumped into the water, swimming toward where the girl had fallen in.

When Molly heard Monika's shout, she straightened up and looked over. She saw the girl jump into the river and Monika go down to save her. She assumed that since Monika dared to go down to save someone, she must be a good swimmer.

She silently counted in her mind, but a minute passed and Monika and the little girl did not surface.

Molly then realized something was wrong, rushed down the slope, and jumped into the water without hesitation.

Monika learned to swim at school and even got an excellent grade in her swimming test.

Although the river was unfathomably deep, reportedly thirty or forty meters deep in its deepest parts, the current wasn't very swift. She figured that even if she couldn't save the little girl, she should be able to protect herself.

However, accidents always happen unexpectedly. As soon as she entered the water, her leg cramped and she couldn't move. She only managed to grab the little girl, but the two of them uncontrollably sank to the bottom of the water.

It's over.

Monika was heartbroken. Her life had only just begun; she hadn't yet realized her potential. All those years of hard work studying medicine—was it all going to be wasted? She wasn't married yet, she hadn't had children...

At this moment, she even regretted why she had been so persistent in pursuing Ji Hefeng. She had excellent suitors around her, and if she hadn't been so fixated on Ji Hefeng, she would have already experienced the beauty of love, and perhaps she would already be married and have lovely children.

Monika deeply regrets her past actions. If she could do it all over again, she would never again pursue something that doesn't belong to her.

Monika's consciousness quickly faded, and in the last second before she completely lost consciousness, she saw a beautiful face, resembling a siren from the sea, alluring and captivating. The 'siren' came to her with incredible speed, grabbing her with one hand and the little girl with the other, and swam them towards the surface of the water.

Splash—

Three heads emerged from the water.

Monika and the little girl were very close to the bank at first, but in just over a minute, they were swept to the middle of the river by the current, which shows that the current at the bottom of the river is faster than it appears on the surface.

Molly held onto the two people, but she was still very fast. She reached the shore in no time, pushed them ashore, and then climbed up herself.

The girl had stopped breathing. Molly first cleaned the girl's mouth and nose, then turned the girl's head to one side and began pressing on the girl's chest.

She counted aloud, "One, two, three... twenty, twenty-three..."

Molly pressed the pump forty-five times before the girl finally spat out the water.

"It's breathing again." Molly breathed a sigh of relief.

"You know first aid!" Monika shivered from the cold, but her eyes were fixed on Molly. It was unbelievable that a village girl knew first aid.

Molly didn't say anything. "You're dressed so lightly and you're soaked. What you should do now is get back to the camp quickly. Otherwise, your body temperature will become unbalanced, and it won't be as simple as just catching a cold."

"I can't walk. My leg is cramped and still hurts a lot, and my calf is cut." Monica said, feeling a little aggrieved. She had just escaped death, and Molly didn't even comfort her, instead being so fierce. She was really not gentle.

Molly looked at her calf; there was a long, deep wound that was still bleeding.

Molly sighed, took off her coat, and used it to tie the little girl to her back. After securing the little girl, she picked up Monika and strode up the slope.

In the past, Monika had played the role of a patient in class, been carried on a stretcher, been carried on someone's shoulders, and even been princess-carried, but this was the first time she had been princess-carried by a woman.

And it was so stable; on such a steep road, she could hardly feel any bumps.

Monica looked up, her gaze only about ten centimeters from Molly's face. Only when she was so close did she realize that Molly's skin was exceptionally good. There wasn't a single acne scar or blackhead. It was fair and delicate, comparable to the finest white porcelain.

How can someone look like this?

That's not scientific at all.

Monika was no longer capable of feeling jealousy; she had lost completely.

Molly was quick and returned to the camp in less than two minutes.

"Which direction is the hospital in?" she asked.

“Turn left,” Monika advised.

Molly was carrying one in front and another on her back, which quickly attracted the attention of passersby.

"Sister-in-law, what happened?" a soldier from the 1st Regiment asked.

“They jumped into the river,” Molly replied quickly.

The soldier was startled and wanted to ask why she jumped into the river, but the most important thing now was to save her. "Sister-in-law, are you tired? Let me help you carry her."

Molly shook her head. "I'll go. You lead the way."

It wasn't that Molly liked hugging Monika; it was that she had heard Mohe mention that a girl had fallen into the water and been rescued by a man, and was now obligated to marry him. The man had seen her naked and had been intimate with her, so she had no choice but to marry him.

Although she didn't like Monika, she wouldn't retaliate against her by sacrificing her happiness for the rest of her life.

The soldier ran ahead, and Molly followed behind, keeping pace with him.

"Doctor, someone has fallen into the water!" The soldier couldn't help but shout as soon as he arrived at the hospital gate.

People immediately ran out of the hospital.

"Oh, isn't this Dr. Mo? What's wrong?"

"I'm not seriously injured, just a minor injury. Look at the girl behind her, she just stopped breathing, quickly check her out."

Molly put Monika down and then went to unload the girl from her back. Only after watching the doctor and nurses take the girl away did she leave the hospital with her wet coat.

When Molly returned home soaking wet, Ji Hefeng was terrified. "What happened? What happened? Are you hurt?"

Upon noticing that Ji Hefeng was shivering, Molly felt a warmth in her cold body and replied, "He's not injured. He went into the water to save someone."

Upon hearing this, Ji Hefeng breathed a sigh of relief. "Go to the bathroom, I'll bring you some hot water right away. I'll also bring you your clothes in a bit."

Molly walked toward the bathroom, while Mo An began adding firewood to the aluminum pot. There was water in the pot, but not much; they needed to continue boiling it.

"Brother-in-law, the thermos is full of boiling water, that will work too," Mo An reminded him.

Ji Hefeng first carried a bucket of water to Molly. Hearing Mo An's words, he poured water from the thermos into the bucket, added some cold water, and also brought it to Molly.

With his back to Molly, he reached in and put the bucket inside. "Mo An is still boiling water. I'll bring it to you later."

Molly nodded and said, "Thank you."

"You're welcome, I'll go get you your clothes."

These days, Ji and Feng wash clothes for the whole family every day. He knows almost every single one of Molly's clothes, inside and out, like the back of his hand.

In less than two minutes, he brought Molly the clothes.

“I remember you have training today, don’t be late,” Molly reminded him.

Ji Hefeng nodded and said, "I'll go ask for leave and then come back."

"No need, I'm really fine." Molly said with a hint of helplessness, "You know, with my constitution, it's hard for me to get sick. You go do your morning exercises first, come back for breakfast later, and we'll talk then."

Ji Hefeng pursed his lips and finally agreed, "Then I'll come back in a bit."

Once outside, Ji Hefeng planned to order a large wooden bathtub for Molly that evening so that she could take a comfortable bath.

When he moves to a nicer house, he wants to order a large bathtub, a double bathtub.

Molly took a shower and washed her hair as well.

She had just come out of the bathroom when Lu Lu grabbed her and pulled her into the corridor. There was a brazier in the corridor with coal burning inside, and a chair next to it.

"Sis, hurry up and dry your hair," Mo An urged.

"Mom, grill it." Lu Lu told Molly to put her hands on the fire.

Molly smiled. "Okay, I'll bake it now."

"I'll knead the dough for the steamed buns, you can rest, sister." Mo An took out the risen dough and started working on it.

Lu Lu glanced at Molly, then at Mo An, and decided to help Mo An. Of course, he ended up making things worse. But Mo An wasn't angry; he patiently taught Lu Lu, step by step. That's how his sister had taught him.

Molly sat quietly to the side, watching the two busy themselves, her expression gentle, a faint smile on her lips.

"Mom, my third sister is missing," came a girl's voice from next door.

Then came the woman's exasperated voice, "She went out to play so early in the morning, that child is too wild. I'm going to teach her a lesson when she gets back."

"Mom, where is my third sister going to play? Why didn't she take me with her?" the boy asked softly.

The woman's voice immediately changed, becoming gentle as water, "Your third sister's heart is too wild; she won't care about anything else. Go find your eldest and second sisters and ask them to take you out to play."

The little boy disagreed, "My eldest and second eldest sisters aren't fun. They're always doing chores or reading, unlike my third sister, who's the most fun-loving."

"Then when your third sister comes back, I'll have her take you to play." The woman said with a doting look, "Sweetie, Mom will steam some eggs for you."

"......."

The sounds from next door came through intermittently.

Molly's expression was complicated. She thought of the little girl who jumped into the river. Could that little girl be the child next door?

Molly's guess was soon confirmed when someone came to inform the neighbors that their daughter had jumped into the river and was now in the hospital.

"Jump into the river? How could that be! Young man, you must be mistaken." The woman didn't believe it.

"She said her name was Yu San San," the soldier said.

“Even if her name is Yu San San, that doesn’t prove she’s my daughter. My third daughter is optimistic and cheerful. She argues with me every day, and she never cries even when she gets beaten. How could such a strong child jump into the river?” The woman still firmly believed that her daughter would not jump into the river.

"She also said her father's name is Yu Jin'an. Her clothes are all soaked. When you go to pick her up, remember to bring a change of clothes." After saying that, the soldier turned and left.
