Chapter 70 Only those who defeat me are qualified
Molly killed eighty-two wolves, plus the seven that were shot, making a total of eighty-nine wolves. In addition, there were fourteen sheep that were killed by wolves. When these wolves and sheep were carried down the mountain and back to the camp, the entire camp was in an uproar.
"I haven't seen so many wolves in years. I never imagined there were so many wolves in the mountains!"
"Have we stormed into the wolves' lair?"
"Wolves and sheep, such a big operation!"
"It's not even Chinese New Year yet, are we going to divide up the meat?"
"Oh dear, why are there more than a dozen children following behind?"
"I see my child, Qinian. Didn't you go to the mountains with your Aunt Molly today? Why are you back with these uncles and brothers?" It was Qinian's mother who called out.
"Mom, it's a long story. I'll tell you slowly when I get back tonight," Qi Nian said to his mother, taking off the basket from his back and handing it to her. "There's a fish inside. This is a small part of our catch today. Take it home and keep it safe so it doesn't spoil."
Qi Nian's mother saw the big fish inside; it was the one Molly had given to each child, one for each person, everyone got one.
"This is only a small part. What about the rest? You can't expect the wolves and sheep to be your prey, can you?" Qi Nian's mother teased, thinking to herself, "Molly is really generous. She just gave me such a big fish like that."
To everyone's surprise, Qi Nian's eyes lit up. "Mom, you're so smart! You're right. Those wolves and sheep are ours. They were killed by our beautiful, gorgeous, and invincible sister Molly. Okay, I won't talk to you anymore. I'm going to watch our prey."
"........"
Molly took Mo An and Lu Lu home. When she saw Yu San San come in as well, she smiled and said, "You should go home first and change your clothes. They're dirty."
There were specks of blood on Yu San San's coat.
Yu San San put down the basket and took out the fish inside. "I'm not taking these back."
"No way, everyone got fish today. If you don't take some, you'll probably get scolded again tonight. Listen to me, go back and change your clothes, then come back with Xiao An and Xiao Lu to the cafeteria to see what's going on." There's so much meat, I don't know what the cafeteria is going to do with it. Will they just cook it all? Or will they share some with everyone?
"Then I'll go back first, and come back to find Brother Xiao An and Xiao Lu later." Yu San San ran off in a flash.
When Molly got home, put her things down, and sat down, she realized that her muscles were a little sore all over and a feeling of fatigue washed over her.
Looks like I'm overworked today.
Molly rubbed her arm. "I'm going back to my room to take a nap."
"elder sister?"
"Mother?"
The two children looked at her with concern.
Molly smiled and said, "I'm fine, I just overexerted myself and my muscles are sore."
"Then sister, please rest well. I'll cook dinner," Mo An said.
“Sure,” Molly readily agreed.
"Mom, I'll help Uncle. Once I learn how, I'll cook for you too." Lu Lu's speech became more and more fluent.
"That would be perfect, I'll wait. But if the cafeteria provides free meat dishes tonight, you should probably get some to go." After all, they put in the effort, and it would feel like a waste not to eat it.
Molly fell asleep the moment her head hit the pillow.
Mo An, Lu Lu, and Yu San San went to the cafeteria to watch the excitement.
There was too much prey today; the canteen couldn't hold it all, so they had to clean it outside. A group of family members and children were crowded around. When Mo An and his two companions arrived, Qi Nian greeted them, "Come here quickly, we've saved you some seats."
Mo An and his two companions squeezed in and watched the cafeteria chefs break down meat. They couldn't help but wonder how breaking down meat could be so visually appealing.
"I just heard the cafeteria staff say that because it's hot, the cafeteria can't handle so much meat, so they'll have to share some with each household," Qi Nian said in a low voice, his tone excited.
Mo An couldn't help but get excited, "Will we get some mutton?"
"It's hard to say about others, but I think your family will definitely get a share," Qi Nian said meaningfully.
Mo An also thought that his family should be able to get some, but he didn't show it on his face. Instead, he asked, "Can we still come to the cafeteria for free meat dishes today?"
"They didn't mention that. But usually the meat is distributed, so everyone'll probably eat at home." Qi Nian said, glancing behind Mo An, "Where's my sister? She didn't come?"
“My sister said she’s tired and wants to sleep at home.” Mo An was a little worried about her sister.
Qi Nian nodded, "Sister, you've worked so hard today. Please ask the head chef to give you some extra mutton to help you recover."
Mo An thought so too, and nodded vigorously.
After all the meat was cleared out, the canteen announced over the loudspeaker that the meat would be distributed: five catties of wolf meat and three catties of bones per family. In addition, the children who went to the mountains today would each receive one catty of mutton.
As for Molly, who did a lot of work, she only got half a sheep.
"Take the mutton back with you, and I'll cook the wolf meat for you. Bring a big basin over tonight, and I'll put the food in it for you," Uncle Wang said.
Mo An was taken aback, then grinned from ear to ear, "That's wonderful! My sister praised your wolf meat before, saying it was especially delicious. Not only the wolf meat, but your wild boar meat was also very fragrant."
Upon hearing this, Uncle Wang's expression softened, and he waved to Mo An, "Alright, I understand, you can go back now."
Mo An turned and left, carrying a basket on his back, which he had brought home not long ago. In his basket was half a sheep and the two catties of mutton that he and Lu Lu had shared.
Yu San San followed Mo An and said, "This master chef is so kind to you. I've never seen him smile since I met him."
“He wasn’t laughing just now,” Mo An said.
“No, he smiled, and his eyes narrowed slightly.” Yu Sansan thought about it seriously. “It’s probably because he admires his aunt for being able to hunt prey.”
"Yu San San!"
A sharp female voice came from ahead, and Yu San San stopped in her tracks, her expression blank.
Mo An had never met the woman in front of him, but he was very familiar with her voice. He had often heard this voice cursing Yu San San and her two older sisters when he was at home.
This must be Yu San San's mother, and the three children next to her are Yu San San's older sister and younger brother.
"Give me the mutton you have." The woman reached out her hand to Yu San San.
Yu San San didn't say anything, but handed over the mutton in her hand.
"Third sister, why didn't you take me with you to the mountains today? I heard you roasted pheasant and fish there, is that true?" The little boy was chubby-faced and not unpleasant-looking, but his eyes kept darting around, which made him less likable.
"Oh dear, my son, you mustn't go into the mountains. Your third sister encountered a pack of wolves in the mountains today. Wolves eat people, it's terrifying." The woman's expression and voice were so gentle that they could melt your heart.
"Didn't Third Sister come back safely, Mom? You're lying, aren't you?" the boy said, disbelieving.
The woman started to coax him again, saying things like, "Don't go to the mountains, Mom will cook fish and meat for you when we get back."
Mo An pursed her lips, took Lu Lu's hand in one hand and Yu San San's hand in the other, and left.
When Mo An and the other two returned home, Molly was still asleep.
Mo An cleaned the mutton, marinated it with salt, and then started cooking rice. "San San, you'll be eating at our house tonight."
His tone carried a hint of anger.
Yu San San originally wanted to say that she would eat at home, but seeing Mo An's angry expression, she obediently agreed, "Okay."
Mo An cooked rice and started boiling water. After the water was hot, he told Lu Lu to take a bath, and then he took a bath himself. Yu San San helped watch the fire at the stove.
After taking a shower, Mo An took a basin to the cafeteria.
The aroma of meat filled the cafeteria, and the people inside seemed unfazed when they saw Mo An carrying a basin in.
"Uncle Wang," Mo An called out.
A moment later, Uncle Wang came over carrying a small basin of meat. "Put the basin on the table."
Mo An obediently did as he was told, watching as Uncle Wang poured a large basin of wolf meat into the basin he had brought, filling it to the brim. He couldn't help but swallow hard, "This wolf meat seems even more delicious than last time."
A smug look flashed across Uncle Wang's face. "Your nose is pretty good, kid."
Mo An chuckled foolishly.
"We have the meat. Have you prepared any vegetables at home?" Uncle Wang asked.
Mo An's smile froze. "I forgot."
Uncle Wang didn't seem surprised. "Wait."
He turned and went back to the kitchen, took out two lunch boxes, and said, "I cooked some vegetables myself. You can take them back and eat."
Mo An hesitated, "This—"
"Let's go, let's go." Uncle Wang didn't give Mo An a chance to refuse and went back to his work.
Mo An returned home with the groceries, and Lu Lu and Yu San San immediately went to greet him.
"Is my sister still not awake?" Mo An asked.
"I'm awake." Molly yawned, having woken up hungry. She glanced at Mo An's bowl. "So much?"
Mo An nodded, "Besides this pot of meat, there are also two lunchboxes of vegetables, which Uncle Wang gave us."
Molly raised an eyebrow, picked up the lunchbox, and opened it on the table. One box contained bright green bok choy, and the other contained stir-fried bean sprouts, which looked very appetizing.
Molly: "This must have been cooked by Uncle Wang himself; it doesn't look like a communal dish."
"But why did Uncle Wang cook for us separately?" Mo An asked, puzzled.
“He gives it to you, so just eat it.”
A voice came from the doorway, and Molly and the others turned their heads to see Ji Hefeng, who looked travel-worn.
Ji Hefeng's gaze fell on Molly. He tried his best to control himself, but he still seemed a bit clingy.
"Wash your hands and come eat," Molly said.
Ji Hefeng laughed, "Looks like I've come back just in time. So much meat today?"
Molly didn't respond, Mo An felt guilty, and Lu Lu and Yu San San sat obediently.
"I'll go get my brother-in-law some bowls and chopsticks." Mo An ran off.
"What did they do?" Ji Hefeng asked, puzzled.
Molly rubbed her temples. "Today I took a few kids to the mountains and killed eighty-two wolves."
Ji Hefeng: "......."
How could someone make such a huge mess?
Molly paused. "Is the problem serious?"
Ji Hefeng nodded, then shook his head. "It's not a big problem. I guess some people will want to spar with you. But I'm back, so fighting me is the same. If they can't even beat me, they're not worthy to fight you."
Molly: "......." You look like you deserve a beating.
That evening, when Ji Hefeng took a shower and returned to his room, Molly was already asleep, her breathing steady.
Ji Hefeng had the lights on, and the yellow light shone on Molly's little face. She just frowned slightly, turned over, and continued to sleep.
"Are you that tired?"
However, considering that Molly killed eighty-two wolves today and still had to protect those children, it was indeed not easy for her.
Ji Hefeng turned off the light and lay down next to Molly. They each had their own blanket, and both slept very properly, never moving out of their own positions even if they turned over all night.
I can't find an opportunity to get close to them.
Ji Hefeng sighed. If he had known this would happen, he wouldn't have been so honest back then.
Ji Hefeng closed his eyes, smelled the unique fragrance emanating from beside him, and listened to his even breathing. He soon fell asleep as well.
The corn in the yard is already twenty centimeters tall, with thick stems and lush green leaves. Ji Hefeng never expected that Molly could grow corn so well.
It's just that it hasn't rained for a long time, and the ground is a bit dry.
When Ji Hefeng returned from buying breakfast at the cafeteria, he saw Mo An and Lu Lu drawing well water to irrigate the corn.
"Do you have to water it every day?" Ji Hefeng asked them.
“Corn needs watering every three or four days, while vegetables need watering every day. Peanuts and soybeans also need watering every three or four days,” Mo An replied.
"Have the vegetables and crops grown over there in the vegetable garden already?" Ji Hefeng recalled that those vegetables and crops had only been planted a few days ago.
“The crops are growing a bit slower. The vegetables are already as tall as a finger,” Mo An said with pride. “Now our vegetable garden is the greenest, and the vegetables are growing the best.”
Ji Hefeng was a little curious. "Have breakfast first, then take me to see it."
After Ji Hefeng, Mo An, and Lu Lu finished breakfast and carried the water buckets out the door, Molly in the room turned over and continued sleeping.
Molly didn't get up until the sun was high in the sky.
The house was quiet; everyone was busy with their own things and didn't make a sound.
"Are you hungry? There are steamed buns on the table. But don't eat too much, just enough to fill your stomach. I'm stewing mutton, and lunch will be ready in half an hour," Ji Hefeng said.
Molly: "Are you on vacation today?"
"Yes, I'm on vacation." She finally knows how to care about him; that's rare.
"How did the competition go?"
"Successfully, you got promoted."
"Great, congratulations."
"Thanks."
The conversation was polite but distant.
"I will be leaving the camp for a while tomorrow."
"Just got back and you're leaving again?"
"Yes. I might be away for a few months."
Molly fell silent. For some reason, hearing that Ji Hefeng was leaving the camp again made her feel uneasy.
After a long pause, she finally asked, "Is it dangerous?"
The silent person has been replaced by Ji Hefeng.
In the afternoon, Ji Hefeng went to the training ground.
"Not bad, King of Soldiers." Zhao Jian'an punched Ji Hefeng in the chest, but Ji Hefeng didn't flinch. "Your foundation is getting more and more stable."
Ji Hefeng glanced at Zhao Jian'an and said, "Go back to your team."
"Don't rush, everyone wants to see your sister-in-law's capabilities, so they asked me to be their go-between." Zhao Jian'an winked at Ji Hefeng.
Ji Hefeng was not surprised at all. "My wife is better than me. Only if she beats me will you be qualified to face her."
“Deputy Commander Ji, you know perfectly well that we can’t beat you,” a soldier shouted.
"Then don't bother her." Ji Hefeng's tone was slightly cold.
"No, we're just really curious." That tone sounded utterly shameless.
Ji Hefeng clenched his fist. "All of you come at me together. If I lose, you can go find her."
The soldiers exchanged glances, their eyes filled with eager anticipation.
"Does Deputy Commander Ji keep his word?"
"Yes, that's right. There are so many people here who can testify to that."
"Alright, we agree. What are you all waiting for? Let's attack together and take down Deputy Commander Ji in a relay."
