Second candy

night.

The day after joining the mercenary team, Evelyn regretted not saying anything when Vilt nodded.

That day, Sophia extended her hand to introduce herself to Violet. According to aristocratic etiquette, a man facing a princess is required to take her hand and kiss her fingertips. However, Violet did not do so. Instead, she placed her right hand on her left shoulder and bowed slightly.

But after joining the mercenary team, Vilt's eyes always stopped on Sophia from time to time. During breaks, she even went straight to Sophia, and the two of them looked like they were having a great conversation!

Evelin pursed her lips, grabbed something, and without even looking at it, threw it into the fire in front of her.

The stone hit the fire, sparking sparks. Violet stepped sideways to block the sparks as she walked over with the food. "What's wrong?" she asked as she handed the plate of dinner to Evelyn.

"Nothing, just sitting there is a bit boring." Evelyn said.

The two of them had no intention of joining the mercenary group, and the mercenary group had no intention of accepting them. Some male mercenaries even made sarcastic remarks when they saw Vilt approaching Sophia.

And Violet ignored all those boring words.

"We'll reach the center of the forest tomorrow." Vilt sat down next to Evely.

“Yeah.” Evelin nodded, a little more silent than before.

There had never been such a stagnant atmosphere between Violet and Evelyn. Even on the first day they met, Evelyn was chattering non-stop.

However, it was precisely because Evelin had mostly initiated the communication between the two that, now that she was silent, Vilt frowned in confusion.

Are you sick? Violet looked at Evelin who was eating in silence and reached out to check the temperature of her forehead.

Evelyn was frozen by Violet's sudden action. She was so stunned that she even stopped chewing.

After touching Evelin's forehead with the back of her hand, Violet raised her hand and pressed it against her own forehead. The temperature was the same. She looked at Evelin with concern, "Are you feeling unwell?"

"No." Evelin shook her head. "Why do you ask?"

"Since you've been quiet, I thought..."

Evelyn puffed out her cheeks.

Yes, princesses are always high and mighty, the center of attention. When they were in the palace, Evelyn's eyes and gestures were all the maids knew what she wanted and what she wanted to do. Either she was with someone, or she was following someone, or... Evelyn didn't say the last "or", she snorted and ignored Violet again.

Vilt didn’t know how to coax people, nor did she know how to coax Evelin, so she could only wait silently for the other party to finish her meal, and then put away the plate and sent it back without saying a word.

In order to prevent Evelin's unhappiness from continuing to ferment, Violet left silently.

However, Evelin became even angrier as she watched Violet leave.

What if you care about me a little more?

Evelin searched around for a long time but couldn't find anything to throw out to vent her anger, so she could only stomp her feet heavily and go back to the tent.

Evelyn and Violet began a cold war, which was unrealistic. They still ate together, walked side by side, and slept in the same tent at night. Evelyn still gave Violet and Sophia a resentful look when they talked, but as long as Violet looked at her, Evelyn would look away in a way that made it even more obvious.

Evelin wasn't feeling unwell, could it be because they had been traveling with the mercenary group all the way?

But at first, the other party didn't show any objection, but... Violet glanced at the contents recorded in her notebook. It was almost done. They were almost reaching the middle of the deep forest. It would be time to part ways with the mercenary group.

As they got closer and closer to the center of the forest, the monsters they encountered became increasingly difficult to deal with. The wild beasts in the forest disappeared, and low-level monsters were everywhere.

Evelyn and the mercenary captain were leading the way at the front of the team. Evelyn had driven away monsters several times in the past two days. The mercenaries in the mercenary group all knew that she was very powerful. During breaks, some magicians would come to Evelyn to practice with her.

As Evelyn became the vanguard, Vilt would often appear beside Sofia and ask questions while they were on the road. Sofia was happy to see this and took Vilt into her protection.

Protecting the princess was the mercenary group's mission, while protecting Violet was Evelyn's request. Even if the mercenaries harbored grievances against Sophia, they would be paid to keep their mouths shut, and if they were unhappy, they would only complain behind her back. However, they had no such scruples when it came to Violet.

"Hey, pretty boy! Where are you going?" A mercenary holding a long sword tapped Violet's calf with the scabbard. "Can you watch the road? That's poisonous sawgrass. If you get hurt, will we have to take care of you?

"What a trouble! I told you this forest isn't for just anyone. I hope you're lucky and make it out alive."

The contempt in the mercenary's tone was no longer concealed when he spoke. The other mercenaries around him did not agree, but their expressions were similar. They felt that there was another trouble in their team.

This was the kind of talk Violet had heard the most in the past two days. She glanced up at the mercenary, then looked away, confirming her feet were safe. She calmly turned her head to Sophia and continued asking, "Do you princesses get together every day?"

The mercenary felt humiliated by Violet's nonchalant attitude, and his expression became even uglier. When Sophia heard Violet's question, her brows furrowed even tighter.

Sophia had witnessed the mercenaries' rude treatment of Vilt during this time, and she had been waiting for the magician, White, to complain to either his noble daughter or herself. Sophia was certain that if White was willing to speak, they would take action.

But there was not a single time when this man did not feel isolated or unequal.

Sophia despised such submissive people the most, but seeing that the other party was asking her questions as if nothing had happened, Sophia became more and more curious.

"Not every day. Everyone has their own things to do." Sofia's face was stern. She glanced at the mercenary who had challenged Vilt with a warning, but didn't forget to answer the question. "But on holidays and birthdays, we do have gatherings. Holidays are mainly tea parties, while birthday parties are very grand."

"Hmm." Violet nodded seriously and took notes attentively.

Sophia had never seen such a person before. He seemed to be isolated from the crowd and didn't care about anything, but he was asking about his own worldly affairs.

Thinking of this, Sophia looked at the mercenary who was unfriendly to Vilt with a bad look, "I see that you are very accomplished in road safety. Instead of letting us pedestrians take care of it ourselves, why don't you clear these obstacles in advance?"

"You--" Sophia clearly stood up for Violet. The mercenary gritted his teeth and wanted to say something, but before he could finish his words, he was quickly stopped by the people around him.

Sophia is the biggest sponsor of the mercenary group's mission this time. They have to serve Her Royal Highness the Princess well on the surface, no matter who they are.

The mercenary pursed his lips, tightened his grip on his weapon, then drew his knife and cut off the immature Piranha plant seedling beside him. "As you command, Your Highness."

Violet didn't react at all to Sophia's help in punishing the mercenaries. As if nothing had happened, she continued to ask after Sophia had finished arranging the mercenaries, "What do you usually have for tea parties? Desserts and black tea like afternoon tea?"

"That's about it. It depends on the taste of the people present." Sophia felt that she was throwing her seductive eyes at the blind man, but why did this magician just sit there blankly without any other reaction?

"What about the birthday party?"

"Prepare whatever's expensive," Sophia said. She paused and continued, "A birthday party is not like a tea party. Such grand events have their own rules in the palace, and the chefs prepare them according to the rules. Tea parties are more casual. When I have a good friend over, I'll ask the chef to prepare some of her favorite dishes."

Following Sophia's voice, Violet's pen began to write string after string of words.

"What on earth are you asking these questions for?" Sophia recalled White's questions over the past two days, ranging from big questions like the construction and decoration of the palace to small questions like the food, clothing, housing and transportation of the royal family. They were so detailed that it seemed as if she was writing a book about royal secrets.

Violet recorded everything openly, and Sophia could see what was written in her notebook just by glancing at it.

"A little curious," said Violet.

Sophia didn't believe it.

Violet had a good memory and wrote very quickly, and she copied down almost every word she said.

"You..." Sophia wanted to ask something, but her words stopped when she saw Violet's handwriting.

Violet's handwriting is very beautiful. It has the same style as the cursive script popular in the royal court, but it is cleaner and neater than the cursive script.

The handwriting reflects the character of the person.

He could read and write so well that he was more than qualified to be a copyist in a noble mansion, or even an enlightenment teacher for noble ladies and masters. Why would such a person do such a tiring job as a wandering magician and follow a down-and-out nobleman?

Being threatened?

"If you have any leverage over that person, I can help you get out of this." Sophia said seriously. She looked at Violet with pity and a sense of obligation, as if she wanted to save a lamb from the mud.

"Hmm?" Violet was looking through her notes to see if she had missed anything.

What Violet cared about most was the construction of the palace and the daily life of the princess. She had met various royal architects and princess godmothers over the years, but none of them could compare to the stories told by a real princess.

However, the princess's thoughts were too erratic, and Violet couldn't keep up for a while.

"Did you misunderstand something?"
