Second candy
Evelin was wearing the same men's suit as Violet and was mingling with the crowd to get information.
She is not as good at disguising as Violet, and people can tell at first glance that she is a woman.
Coupled with Evelin's innocent look and the crystal bracelet she still wore on her hand, anyone with a keen eye could easily tell that she was a noble lady who had disguised herself as a man and was out playing by herself.
Originally, Violet wanted to pretend not to see it, but her eyes instinctively looked around and quickly noticed that a few thugs had set their sights on Evelin at some point, waiting for her to be left alone.
With a light sigh, she walked over to Evelin, put her arm around her shoulders in a familiar manner, and led her to where the crowd was denser. As she walked, she said, "If you want to hear the story of the evil dragon, I'll tell you. Are you ready to go to work?"
Evelyn was inexplicably taken away and was still a little wary. Before she could utter "Who are you?", she heard Vilt's voice and turned her head to see the familiar face. "Wei-White!" Evelyn still remembered Vilt's pseudonym.
“Shh.” Vilt lowered her voice, not letting Evelyn finish the greeting. “Today’s performance is very important. What if you hear the gossip wrongly?” Vilt deliberately raised her voice. As she spoke, she secretly paid attention to the movements of the gangsters following Evelyn.
“Okay! I’ll try my best!” Evelyn said positively. She seemed to lower her head with some joy. Violet naturally missed the cunning in the depths of her eyes.
Seeing that there was a man beside the noble lady, the gangster did not give up at first and kept following Evelin and Violet.
But seeing that the two men not only did not go to the alley, but instead walked towards the more prosperous streets, even if the gangsters had great skills, they would not dare to rob in the downtown area. They looked at each other and could only give up in disappointment.
After leading Evelin into the crowd, Violet loosened her arm around her shoulders, and the two of them kept a distance. Seeing that the thugs had stopped following them, Violet slowed down and said to Evelin, "You were just being watched."
“Huh?” Evelin looked confused.
Looking at the other person's innocent look, Violet shook her head helplessly. Noble ladies like them would always be accompanied by various guards and knights when they go out. If Evelyn had not fallen into poverty, she might not have lived a wandering life in her life.
Violet thought about it and her thoughts slowly drifted away.
Evelyn noticed that Violet was distracted, so she said, "I just heard someone say that a dragon attacked a pharmacist, so I listened more out of curiosity."
Violet came back to her senses and keenly caught the word "evil dragon". Her expression was natural, "I heard about this too."
"I don't know why the dragon attacked the pharmacist." Evelyn asked curiously.
“Who knows.” Vilt shrugged and brought the topic back to Evelyn. “Those thugs saw you were alone, and your disguise wasn’t very good. You were obviously a rich man going out alone, and they tend to target rich people who are alone. You should be more careful when you go out alone in the future. If nothing else, pay close attention to who appears around you.” Vilt reminded.
"Can't we be together? We meet again." Evelyn's focus was on another aspect.
"We should... not be on the way." Violet shook her head.
She had a set goal, and Evelyn probably needed a stable place to settle down. Besides, although they were both women, it was not convenient for Violet. She didn't want to have the opportunity to write a letter or see the princess again, and the first words she said would be "I'm sorry".
By the way…Evelyn blinked.
Velvet was now a wandering magician. Where could she go? Which city was the capital of magicians in their country? Or was it the city where the Magicians' Association was located?
Evelin thought about this and began to wonder if she should check the map. Could it be that Violet was waiting for two months? But the direction she was going now was not right.
While she was thinking, Vilt had already brought Evelin to her destination.
This time, Violet's performance invitation came from Baron Levin of Whiterock Town.
The Baron has three children, two sons and one daughter. They were fascinated by Violet's street performance after watching it for the first time. They persuaded the Baron for a long time before he gave in and sent someone to invite Violet.
The performance takes place in the living room.
This performance was different from the one at the welfare home. It was just a small private performance that did not require music or thinking about the transitions between magic tricks.
All Violet needs to do is perform some close-up magic that is interactive and can entertain the children.
Therefore, except for the fact that she handed over the props in time when Violet changed the magic trick, Evelyn's time was not much different from the audience.
The Baron and Baroness were not at home, and only a butler was with the young masters and young ladies.
Violet took off her hat and bowed slightly, a deck of cards suddenly appeared in her hand, and the performance began.
The magic tricks were not difficult. They either required guessing the number on a playing card, or giving a small ball to a young man or a young lady and asking them to hide the ball in their palms while Violet guessed...
The young master and young lady were very cooperative. They applauded when they should and cheered when they should.
The magic trick should have ended with flowers appearing, but Violet changed the content. The flowers were replaced with several hand-cut leather animals. Although they were rough, because they were made by a magician, the three noble young masters and young ladies loved them very much.
After the performance, Violet packed up her things and left with Evelyn. The housekeeper also walked out of the living room with them.
The butler took out two gold coins and gave them to Vilt. "Thank you for your gift."
The gifts the housekeeper was talking about were probably those small leather animals. Violet took the money and said with a smile, "You're welcome." They couldn't be considered a gift, but just a gift she was used to giving to children.
As they were talking, the butler escorted the two of them to the door, where a carriage happened to be parked.
"Excuse me." Seeing the carriage, the butler's expression became respectful. He nodded slightly and said something to Violet and Evelyn, then quickly walked to the carriage to greet them.
It was the Baron and Baroness who had returned.
The Baron and his wife got out of the car one after another. When they saw Violet at the door and glanced at the suitcase on her, they knew what she was here for. They nodded slightly without saying anything extra. They passed each other, but the Baroness stayed on Violet and Evelyn's faces for a moment longer.
"I don't know how long the Royal Guards will stay in town. I hope they can find out something..." The complaints of the Baroness and the Baron floated over from behind.
Violet looked calm, and Evelyn frowned slightly.
After leaving the Baron's Mansion, Violet didn't rush to the fork in the road. She asked Evelyn, "Where do you live now?"
"I just got here today and met you before I had time to find a place to stay." Evelyn said, "Where do you live? Can I still live with you?"
"Are you used to living in a cave?" Vilt asked, not expecting Evelyn to say that.
“It’s not like I haven’t lived here before.” Evelin disagreed.
"I'm staying at the inn now," Vilt said. She paused and continued, "I think you should find a place to settle down permanently instead of traveling with me. Do you have any relatives in Whiterock Town to stay with?"
Violet did not ask why Evelyn did not go to John's clothing store.
“I…” Evelin didn’t think so much when she came to find Violet. She didn’t expect that the other party would think about her. They were just casual acquaintances and had known each other for less than a week. It turned out that legends were not credible.
"I have relatives to seek refuge with, so I didn't go to John's clothing store." Evelyn explained, quickly thinking of excuses in her head. "Talking about relatives isn't entirely correct, and they're not in Bailuoke... I just happened to be passing by here."
Not only did she need a reason, she also needed a reason to go the same way as Violet.
Where will Violet go?
Evely quickly searched through her memories, looking for all of Violet's behaviors, actions, and words since she met her, but Violet didn't seem to reveal anything.
No, Evelyn subconsciously lowered her eyes while thinking, and her sight happened to fall on the hand beside Violet. Her hand was in her pocket, and in her pocket were two gold coins she had just obtained.
It’s a gold coin, a princess coin! Evelin’s eyes lit up, and Violet even put her own princess coin in her chest pocket.
So is she...
"I'm going to Violet College." Evelin lowered her voice and said tentatively.
Violet was stunned when she heard this familiar destination.
"Well... I found a letter my parents left for me when I was packing. They said I could go to Violet Academy and that they knew someone there who could take me in." Evelyn finished speaking, then added casually, "I heard that the princess will also go there to study when she comes of age."
"I know," said Violet.
Her tone was calm and there was no surprise in her words.
Evelin pursed her lips, as expected.
"Where are you going? Are we going the same way?" Evelyn asked at the right time.
She had said so much, and there was no reason for Violet to refuse.
Not to mention that Violet was originally going to Violet College. If she rejected Evelyn now, wouldn't it be very embarrassing if they met again in a town that they had to pass through on the way to Violet College?
With a slight nod, Violet said, "I'm going to Violet College too. Let's go together."
"Are you going to study?"
“No.” Violet shook her head. Her brows softened as she thought of something. “I’ll go find someone.”
After confirming that they were going the same way, Evelyn followed Violet to the inn.
An inn is a temporary residence found in every town, and has no advantages other than being cheap.
The people who live here are either passing tourists or poor working people, so the boss behind the counter of the inn has a sullen expression and is not enthusiastic towards anyone.
"Which room are you staying in? I'll live with you!" Evelyn asked.
"My room isn't suitable for you," Violet refused without a second thought.
Wei Erte didn't say how her stay was, but Evelin could guess based on her understanding of her over the past two days. She walked to the counter and asked the boss, "Boss, what is your cheapest room like?"
"The cheapest?" The boss raised his eyes and pointed at the bottom of the price list on the table. "Ten people sleeping in a large bunk bed, one copper coin for three days."
A room for ten people, a large bunk bed, one copper coin, three days?
Each of these words made Evelin frown fiercely. "Thank you." She simply thanked the boss and then pulled Violet aside. "Can you live in a room like that?"
“Aren’t they all residences?” Violet disagreed.
"You said I was being targeted when I went out. What about you? With so many people of all kinds living together, isn't that dangerous?"
The worry on Evelin's face was unfaithful. It was the first time that Violet had been cared for by someone, and the experience was somewhat novel.
However, "It's not me who should be afraid, it's them." Violet was full of confidence.
"I don't care." Evelin said this without saying anything. She walked back to the counter and said to the boss, "Double room, seven days. How much?"
"Double room?" Violet paused. "If this room is not mine—"
"Wow! Double room, seven days, only 10 silver coins." This was a big customer. To prevent the money from flying away, the boss didn't let Violet finish her words. His smile was more sincere. "Miss, we don't accept deposits. You need to pay in full at once."
"Yeah." Evelin took the ten silver coins without blinking.
"Miss, your room is on the third floor!" The boss quickly put away the gold coins and said in a friendly and cordial manner, "I'll take you upstairs."
"No, I can go up by myself."
"Okay, okay. Your room is 311, at the end of the corridor. It faces the sun, has a quiet environment, and has a balcony. If you want—"
"Thank you, I see." Evelyn interrupted her boss's chatter.
Seeing this, the boss fell silent at the right moment and said, "I won't disturb your rest."
“Evelyn.” Violet wanted to say something, but the other party didn’t give her a chance.
"I've already spent the money, you have no right to refuse." She snorted, pulling Violet's wrist towards the stairs, "You shouldn't have left anything on that bunk bed, right? If you did, I'll get it for you."
This was the first time Evelin acted like a young lady in front of Violet.
Shaking her head helplessly, Violet said, "All my belongings are here." After that, she lowered her eyes and looked at Evelin's hand holding her wrist. "You have spent all your money. I will not waste it, nor will I run away. So, Miss. You can let go."
