St. Petersburg

The maid walked into the queen's greenhouse in a panic, and saw the queen sitting by the window of the glass greenhouse, basking in the sun and drinking black tea.

There is another small room in the greenhouse, where the magic chef is using water and fire elements to make tea and desserts.

The queen's personal maid came out of the hut carrying desserts. Seeing her anxious look, she whispered, "What's wrong? Why aren't you with the princess?"

"Something's happened to the princess!"

The queen's personal maid looked stern and said, "Take the dessert to Her Majesty the Queen." After that, the personal maid quickly walked into the hut and sent the magic chef away.

Then there was the sound of a teacup falling to the ground by the glass greenhouse window, and dark clouds gathered over Saint-Debirin Castle.

St. Petersburg - Council House

The Knight Commander looked solemn, the king in front of him frowned, and the queen looked melancholy.

"Jack, you must select a team of guards and secretly search for the princess's whereabouts. Don't let anyone know that the princess has disappeared from Saint Debirin Castle."

"Yes, sir!" The Knight Commander saluted solemnly, then turned and left to find the princess according to the king's instructions.

"If I had known this, I would not have taken Evelyn out of Bavrot Palace no matter how miserable she cried." The queen held the handkerchief tightly in her hand, her eyes red.

"My dear, if there weren't evil dragons watching closely, Evelyn would have gone on patrol long ago. After all, she is our only heir."

"You also said there were no evil dragons."

The king patted the queen's hand soothingly. "We were all in the palace today. We didn't hear any dragon roars, and the detectors didn't go off. You and I both know that Evelyn loves to play. This is her first time out, and she might have been attracted by some small item in the city. She couldn't have been kidnapped by a dragon."

"But the dragon said that when the princess was eighteen years old... Evelyn was alone outside. If she saw the dragon--" The queen was frightened when she thought of the giant dragon that descended outside Bavrot Palace on the day of Evelyn's full moon.

"So I asked Jack to search for it secretly. This matter must not reach the ears of the evil dragon." The king's expression darkened.

In legends around the world, a vicious dragon will descend one day, abduct the princess of a kingdom, take her to the mountains or deep forests, and imprison her in a castle. Thousands of years later, a brave knight may rescue the princess, or she may die in depression, gazing at the sky outside the window.

The queen had been terrified since she gave birth to the princess. She heard that the palaces of other kingdoms, big and small, had been plundered - except the Palace of Bavrot - and that the things stolen were either gold or gems, and no one loved more than these two things except the dragon!

The dragon is coming!

Bavrot Palace immediately summoned knights and magicians to protect the princess. However, on the day of Evelyn's full moon, all defenses were like paper in front of the dragon. The dragon not only easily broke into the palace, but also stopped at the window of the princess' bedroom.

When the queen saw the dragon outside the window, her breath was choked and her body became extremely stiff, for she was afraid that the princess would be taken away by the dragon.

The princess was only a month old, her name having been chosen only three days ago. She was a sweet, sweet girl, always smiling at everything she saw. Now, seeing the dragon, the princess didn't know why her mother's hands were cold. She just stared out the window at the giant creature she had never seen before. Then her big, dark grape-like eyes curved up, and she held out her chubby hands to the dragon and laughed out loud.

The queen felt like she was going to die.

Fortunately, the dragon seemed to be moved by the princess's smile. It raised its paw and said, "I will come to pick her up when she turns eighteen."

Then he turned and left.

The palace had eighteen years of respite, but the evil dragon still hung over its head like the sword of Damocles.

During the eighteen years, the king hired numerous warriors, magicians, and even undead knights and necromancers with huge sums of money, but no one could bring him any news about the evil dragon.

Today, there are two months and three days left until Princess Evelyn's eighteenth birthday.

"I will send a letter to the Violet School of Magic tonight, and we will send Evelyn there as soon as she comes back. No creature can break through the defense of the magic school." This is the only safe measure the king can take now.

The queen nodded as she listened to the king's arrangements, her pale face still without any color.

Evelin, who had secretly escaped from the palace due to her parents' extreme worry, had no idea how much of a stir her departure had caused. She was following a wandering magician, chattering non-stop—

"Where are you going? To a hotel? Do you have a lot of money? If not, I can lend it to you as long as you teach me magic. Why don't you say anything? I followed you all the way, are you sure you won't say a word to me? If you don't want to teach me magic, can you at least tell me your name?

"My name is Evelyn!"

Hearing the name, the wandering magician's pupils moved and he stopped in his tracks. "Evelyn?" The wandering magician's words were a little vague, and he spoke in a deliberately low voice.

"Yes, it's the same name as the princess. After Princess Evelyn was born, almost all girls in the city were named this." Princess Evelyn herself said so.

"Hmm." The wandering magician nodded and didn't respond to Evelin.

The wandering magician's destination was a cave in the woods outside the city. The cave was covered with thatch and had simple pieces of wood and flint. It seemed that the wandering magician had lived here for some time.

There was a clay pot under the thatch. When the pot was opened, it was filled with sweet potatoes still covered in mud.

The wandering magician sat cross-legged on the ground with ease, lit the wood with a flint, pierced the sweet potato with a sharpened piece of wood, and then roasted it over the fire.

While the wandering magician was doing everything, Evelyn watched silently from the side. Even when she was tired of standing, she didn't care that the ground would dirty her white dress and sat down next to the wandering magician.

She was determined to stay with the wandering magician.

But the wandering magician didn't even bother to drive her away. Apart from moving a little further away from Evelyn when she just sat down, he didn't even have the slightest intention of paying any attention to her.

It was completely dark outside the cave, the only light coming from the fire burning inside. Outside, the wind rustled leaves and grass, and if you listened carefully, you could hear the chirping of unknown insects.

The sweet potato in the wandering magician's hand had already started to smell fragrant. She held two wooden sticks in her hands, quickly ate one, and threw the other in front of Evelin.

Without paying attention to Evelyn's reaction, after doing all this, the wandering magician moved the pottery jar under the thatch, patted it with his hands, pulled out a few strands of straw and threw them to Evelyn, then lay down and fell asleep.

Evelyn stared at the straw and the dark, unknown plant that was thrown at her. She spread the straw and sat down again, then picked up the wooden stick, peeled off the skin like a wandering magician, and took a bite.

It was sweet and soft, with a richer texture than mashed potatoes, a burnt aroma, and a bit dry. Evelyn had eaten something with the same flavor before, and it turned out to be like this at first.

Evelyn had been following the wandering magician for most of the day, her appetite constantly busy, and she was indeed a little hungry. She finally felt somewhat full after devouring a whole piece of sweet, unknown plant.

The fire in the cave dimmed, and Evelyn looked at everything in front of her.

The mountain walls are mountain walls, the stone ground is stone ground, and there is no trace of human existence here except for the ashes left after the fire, straw, pottery pots and wood chips burned out.

The wandering magician was sleeping with his back to Evelyn, fully clothed. He had a fur hat on his head, the top of which was torn and he had found it somewhere unknown. He was wearing a simple dark green shirt, black pants, a brown vest, and leather boots.

This set of clothes must have been worn for a long time. The fabric at the cuffs of the shirt has been worn out, and the soles of the leather boots are also badly worn.

Logically speaking, this wandering magician who travels around various cities and has seen all kinds of things shouldn't be so unguarded.

Besides, isn't this person afraid that I'm a magician? Evelin thought so, what a strange... person.

A peaceful night.

As soon as the sky brightened, before the sunlight even shone into the cave, the magician opened his eyes. The moment he opened his eyes, his pupils looked like vertical pupils.

The magician had no bad habit of staying in bed, so he sat up and buried the clay pot back in the straw. Then he caught another breathing sound in the cave.

Evelyn bent her legs, wrapped her hands around her knees, and fell asleep leaning against the wall.

She hasn't left yet.

The magician had no intention of waking Evelyn up. He thought that when she woke up and saw that there was no one here, she would probably leave on her own.

However, just as he passed Evelyn and before he reached the cave entrance, the magician's little finger was grabbed by someone.

“Wait for me.” Evelin didn’t know when she opened her eyes. Because of her sleeping posture, she was sleepy and her whole body was sore, but the strength in her hands was not small at all.

"You should go home." The magician said, his voice still deliberately lowered.

"I have no home." Evelyn lowered her head, her voice miserable, her mind racing. "My family is bankrupt. My father and brother owe a lot of money. They all ran away, leaving me alone. You might see a wanted poster of me on the street one day. I really want to learn magic from you."

As she spoke, Evelin pretended to cry a few more times, fearing that her words were too dry.

The magician was at a loss as he had not expected that he would be followed by such a troublesome burden.

The magician naturally didn't believe everything Evelin said, but because of the other party's name, the magician couldn't help but want to trust her.

With a low sigh, the magician shook his head, "Don't follow me."

The magician released Evelin's hand, but she quickly stood up from the ground, adjusted her skirt, and followed the magician again.

"Where did you get this outfit? Please get me one too. I can't wear this forever. Don't worry, I'll pay for it. I have money."

"I don't need you." The magician quickened his pace as he looked at Evelyn who was pursuing him relentlessly.

As they were talking, the two of them came to a stream.

The magician glanced sideways at Evelin, not knowing what he was thinking. He saw that she took off her hat and her slightly curly hair loosened. The magician also unbuttoned two buttons on his collar.

Although it was just a few simple movements, the magician's previous neutrality disappeared completely, and the feminine softness was revealed.

"I am a woman and I cannot offer you shelter." The magician's voice was no longer the deliberately suppressed lowness, she said.

After saying this, the magician noticed that there were ashes on her hands from last night's fire, and she squatted by the water to wash her hands.

When the magician let go of his hair, Evelyn's attention was focused on his face. Looking at his emerald eyes, long eyelashes and rosy lips, Evelyn's gaze was filled with a hint of eagerness that she herself did not even notice.

But she had never thought that the magician was a woman.

Evelin quickly adjusted her strategy and squatted down beside the magician. Her voice was small and stubborn, "You misunderstood me. I like magic and want to learn from you. Isn't this also a way to make a living?"

"And don't be so decisive. You do magic to make money, don't you? Teach me magic, and I'll pay you, one gold coin a day."

Evelin said, pulling out a bag of gold coins from her space ring and shaking it in front of the magician.

The magician didn't react when she saw Evelyn using the space ring, but after hearing the sound of gold coins colliding, her attention immediately shifted to the purse.

But soon, the magician said sharply, "Didn't you say your family is bankrupt? You have to keep the money well."

Oh, my first time telling a lie and I don’t have much experience. Evelin remained calm.

"You're right, but I must show some appreciation for what you taught me. I can't let you work for nothing. It's polite." Evelyn said, then thought of something. Her eyes lit up and she continued, "Oh, and there's more! I have a bag of gold coins in my hand. They are princess coins issued when Princess Evelyn was one year old. It is said that the 'gold' on the back of the gold coins was written by Princess Evelyn herself. But princess coins are usually collected, and there's no use for me to keep them now." Evelyn's voice was full of temptation, and she even took out a princess coin from the space ring.

Evelyn… The magician stared at the childish letters on the back of the princess coin and silently recited the name.

Evelin saw the opportunity and placed the princess coin in the magician's palm. "How is it?"

The magician clenched his fist, wrapped the princess coin in his palm, and then rubbed his forehead with his bent fingers.

"I won't stay here forever. I'll go to another city next week," Magic said.

"Where are you going? Maybe we're going the same way?" Evelyn asked.

"I will teach you magic before the end of this week." The magician did not answer Evelyn's question, she said seriously.
