Chapter 81 Failing to Kill the Chicken, Losing the Fox
Pei Jing thought she was deeply in love and couldn't bear to harm her lover, but he never expected that she was worried that if the truth came out, she would also lose her life... He was speechless.
Jiang Zhishui never expected the Yin Emperor Gu to activate in this way. Now that her life was in the other party's hands, she had no choice but to obey. The Gu bell jingled, and the pain was truly excruciating.
Pei Jing wanted to use the Dragon Drawing Technique to absorb all the power from Jing Qianheng into his own body. He couldn't find an opportunity to make a move, but who would have thought that the opportunity would come to him on its own? And just at this moment, he discovered that she had already been infected by the Yin Emperor Gu.
Pei Jing knew that even if Jiang Zhishui refused to submit, Jing Qianheng would not stand idly by. As long as he could capture her, he could threaten Jing Qianheng into submission.
"Are you really willing to hand him over to me?"
Pei Jing looked at her suspiciously and chuckled, "If you lie to me, you'll suffer a terrible death."
Directly confronting Emperor Qingyu is too risky. Although Pei Jing could sense that Emperor Qingyu valued Jiang Zhishui highly, he wasn't entirely certain that Emperor Qingyu would truly give up everything for this woman.
Having already possessed such immense power, what fool in the world would willingly relinquish it? The best course of action would be for Jiang Zhishui to lure him into a trap, striking when he was most vulnerable.
Jiang Zhishui said, "First, it's not just you who covets his demonic power; his ancestor, Li Mo, also wants to use his body to be reborn. If you can spare his life, I'd be happy to help. Second, I'm actually quite afraid of dying. Although I'm reluctant to part with him, if it's destined that only one of us can survive, then I'd still choose myself."
Pei Jing said appreciatively, "You're very honest."
“Of course, you might not believe what I say.” Jiang Zhishui brushed a stray strand of hair from her forehead. “I just said so much, but you didn’t seem to believe me much. You didn’t believe me when I said that this black chicken was Li Mo.”
Pei Jing: ".............."
"What's the deal with the Yin Emperor Gu on your body?" Pei Jing pressed. "If you tell the truth, I'll believe you."
Jiang Zhishui paused for a moment, and then recounted her time travel, her first and second lives, and her entanglements with Pei Jing. Pei Jing listened attentively at first, but later frowned, feeling that she was playing a trick on him.
Black Chicken Li Mo listened quietly, his expression thoughtful.
Pei Jing held the Gu Bell in his hand, his face displeased. Jiang Zhishui quickly shut her mouth, but he was already angry. He slightly raised his hand, and just when Jiang Zhishui thought she was about to suffer intense pain again, the cave ceiling crashed down with a loud bang, and a lot of rubble fell down.
The two quickly stepped back, and a large rock fell directly onto the spot where Jiang Zhishui had just been standing.
As the dust settled, a massive nine-tailed white fox stood atop the boulder. Its thick white tails gently swept across Jiang Zhishui's face, gathering together and slowly spreading outwards.
A huge pit had been dug into the cave. Sunlight shone on the white fox, whose majestic body and the tips of its fur shimmered with dazzling golden light, making it so beautiful that one could not look away.
Pei Jing looked at the white fox, his face darkened, and he immediately threw out a long thorny whip to lasso the white fox's neck. He pulled hard and dragged the white fox over.
The thorny whip quickly wrapped around the white fox's entire body, and the white fox, with its bloodshot eyes, immediately roared in pain. The sharp, beastly sound reverberated throughout the cave, forcing Jiang Zhishui to cover her ears. Pei Jing, who was closest to the sound, was so shocked that his inner energy churned.
The white fox roared for a while before stopping. Jiang Zhishui's right ear bled from the stimulation. Pei Jingqing did his best to suppress the restless white fox. As the whip tightened around the white fox, its body gradually shrank.
Despite the chaotic and turbulent space, the black chicken Li Mo remained completely unaffected. Its pupils reflected the white fox's image, and it even seemed somewhat excited.
Pei Jing slowly stood up. His inner body churned, and he clutched his chest, vomiting blood. He glanced at the white fox, which had returned to its original size, and kicked it with disgust. The fox was kicked and rolled over, its small belly facing up, soft and innocent, a far cry from the giant and terrifying monster from before.
The little white fox was covered in dust and looked drab. It seemed to have been controlled by Pei Jing with some kind of magic. Now it lay limp on the ground, unconscious.
Pei Jing clutched his chest, his whip falling to the ground. He staggered, wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth, looked at Jiang Zhishui, and said in a hoarse voice, "My younger brother was reckless; I hope you won't take offense."
“He’s a real problem when he goes crazy. I’ve suffered a lot because of him in the past.”
"But it's good that he's back. I was worried he would help you guys deal with me."
"Jiang Zhishui, I will give you three days to bring the Jade Emperor to me. If you fail to do so, I will destroy the Gu Bell, and you will be plunged into endless suffering, unable to die."
"I advise you to listen carefully to what I have to say. You only have one chance. Don't think you can get away with it by being clever, and don't expect the Jade Emperor to be able to remove the poison from your body. No matter how powerful he is, he can't remove this poison. Once the poison bell senses any movement of the poison in your body, I will destroy the poison bell immediately."
Pei Jing's lips were pale, indicating he had suffered considerable internal injuries. He picked up the white fox from the ground and said in a low voice, "I hope you will carefully consider your situation and not do anything unnecessary. We'll meet again in three days."
After saying that, he turned into black mist and disappeared, taking the little white fox with him.
Jiang Zhishui held the black chicken, looked up at the hole in the ceiling with a large hole, and said in a melancholy tone: "...This is terrible. I failed to kill the chicken and lost the fox instead. Sigh."
After flying out of the cave, Jiang Zhishui cleaned herself off by the river, then carried the chicken back. Lost in thought, she walked straight ahead. When she reached a small path, she was suddenly blocked by an invisible barrier. She and the black chicken were violently bumped, making a loud bang.
Her forehead immediately turned red, and she covered her head with both hands, crying out in pain. The black chicken landed on the ground, landing smoothly, and looked up at the large protective barrier.
Jiang Zhishui was in so much pain that tears welled up in her eyes. She looked up, but there was nothing in front of her.
What happened just now? It was like a solid wall blocking my view.
She reached out and touched the ground a few times, but there was nothing obstructing her. She let out a soft "hmm," and cautiously moved forward, one step at a time, until she was across.
As they were walking, another crashing sound came from behind. The black chicken was blocked just outside the line, flapping its wings and trying to get in but couldn't.
Jiang Zhishui turned to look at it, then looked up at the vast barrier that covered the sky above her head.
What is this? Why couldn't I get in before, but I can now?
Jiang Zhishui stepped out of the barrier again, picked up the black chicken, and tried to step back in, but was blocked by the barrier once more.
She turned to look at the black chicken, and the black chicken turned to look at her too. After staring at each other for a moment, she decisively threw the black chicken down and walked forward, where she could go back inside.
Undeterred, the black chicken charged in again, only to be stopped outside once more.
Jiang Zhishui squatted down, looking at the black chicken struggling to get in, and asked curiously, "That's strange. Who set up this barrier? It was fine when we left, so why can't you get in now?"
"Who else besides Jing Qianheng has this ability?" Black Chicken Li Mo tried a few times without success, then stepped back and gave up, panting, "That brat, he's always trying to screw over his ancestors."
Jiang Zhishui half-squatted, staring intently at the panting black chicken. She plopped down and asked with delight, "You can talk now?"
Only after she reminded him did the black chicken realize that this was his original voice.
"...Could it be that the things that crazy Taoist priest concocted earlier actually worked?" Black Chicken Li Mo immediately thought of the person he had encountered earlier, and he was overjoyed: "My true self can finally get rid of this body!"
Li Mo left earlier to seek a method for separating the soul. During her travels, she experienced many hardships and even encountered a mad Taoist priest who was insane but occasionally seemed to understand Li Mo's speech. Li Mo stayed by his side for a while.
The mad Taoist priest was sometimes normal and sometimes insane. Although he was the only person Li Mo had encountered who could help him break free from his shackles, he couldn't stand being tormented by the mad Taoist priest any longer, so he found an opportunity to escape.
Black Chicken turned and walked away, and Jiang Zhishui called out, "Where are you going?"
"Go find that mad Taoist priest. Only he has a way to help me get rid of this stupid look."
Jiang Zhishui stood up and said, "Li Mo, you still haven't told me what you and Jing Qianheng agreed on? Is he still going to give you his body?"
"Didn't you also want him dead? You just promised someone you'd harm him." The black chicken stopped and turned around, saying, "You humans are disgusting. You wear masks, and what you think and what you do are never the same."
Jiang Zhishui said, "I never wanted him to die."
Li Mo laughed, "Is that so? He can't see it. I know you're holding back, always having a way out. He's different; he's just a fool who acts on emotion. If you don't want him, he's utterly despondent. If you do want him, he's like a pitiful unwanted wretch, jumping around again..."
"Just looking at his useless appearance makes me angry."
Jiang Zhishui sensed something strange in his words and whispered, "Doesn't he look a lot like you?"
The black chicken flapped its wings and pointed at Jiang Zhishui, furious: "No! He's nothing like me! When did I ever become as pathetic as him!"
"Okay, okay, don't be angry. We've been through thick and thin together. Just tell me, what did you two agree to?" Jiang Zhishui tried to get information out of him: "He went back on his word, didn't he? Is that why you were so angry with him? He doesn't want to give you his body anymore?"
"I knew I shouldn't have trusted anyone!" Li Mo gritted his teeth. "I'll figure it out myself!"
After saying that, the black chicken turned around and stormed off, still muttering curses as it went.
Jiang Zhishui returned to the cottage with a heavy heart. She pushed open the gate to the courtyard and saw that the door to the house was closed, knowing that Jing Qianheng had not yet returned.
She walked heavily up the stairs, turned left into her house, and found herself alone in an unusually quiet place.
The quieter it was, the more tumultuous her longing became. Jiang Zhishui sighed softly, picked up the teacup on the table, poured some water, and slowly took a sip. Just then, a deep voice came from the bed: "Where did you go?"
The sudden sound startled Jiang Zhishui, causing her hand holding the teacup to tremble and spill some water. She turned to look at the bed, where Jing Qianheng had pulled back one of the bed curtains, his expression grim.
