Chapter 75: Trouble in the Village
The night was unusually quiet. There was no moon or stars, and no insects or frogs chirping. Suddenly, thunder roared in the middle of the night.
Everyone in the house was awakened by the thunder. Outside the window, the wind was howling, and the branches and leaves of the trees were blown all over the place.
It's going to rain, and not even the darkness of the night can stop the approaching dark clouds.
One drop of rain, two drops of rain...
The sound of rain was irregular. The roof was covered with green tiles and there was a tarpaulin underneath to prevent leaks. The sound was so loud that it was difficult to fall asleep.
It rained all night, and the next day's scenes were set outdoors, making it difficult to shoot. The rain showed no sign of stopping and kept getting heavier.
Lin Qinghua could only let everyone stay at her grandmother's house, and those who could not accommodate had to stay at other people's homes.
The days when we couldn't film due to special circumstances left everyone idle, and the mobile phones had even less signal because of the rain. Sometimes it took me half a day to send a message to An-Mei.
Chen envied Gu Qing for being stuck in the village and unable to go out because of the rain. Gu Qing first reported his current work situation to his superiors and explained why he could not return in time in the near future.
I watched the news that kept going in circles for a long time with a headache. The rain was hitting the windows. There was also a layer of rainproof cloth outside the wooden windows. The sound of the rain was disturbing.
Because He Wan came later, his room was not at grandma's house, but next door to hers. Lu Ziyan and Li Ang were very happy. Finally, there was no clingy guy pestering Fang Xin, so they had more opportunities to chat.
"It's been raining all night, and I'm afraid this trend won't stop." Lu Ziyan cracked melon seeds and glanced at Fang Xin who was wrapped in a quilt.
He only showed his head for a moment, looking silly and adorable.
Fang Xin paused, "Yes, every day of delay costs one cent."
"By the way, why did you help He Wan so much?"
He turned around and blinked, "Really? Don't I treat my juniors normally?"
Lu Ziyan's face was full of stinginess. "You are so considerate to him. You teach him everything he doesn't know. You just stood by and watched me when I didn't know how to do it before."
"...Are you still jealous of friendship?" Fang Xin couldn't help laughing, and her slightly raised eyes curved downwards. "Am I being mean to you now?"
The corners of his lips were raised, revealing his white teeth, making him look like a seductive little fox.
Lu Ziyan just stared at Fang Xin, unable to restrain his eyes from revealing love, luckily someone knocked on the door to divert his attention.
Li Ang, who was outside the door, saw Lu Ziyan knocking on the door downstairs. The outer railing of the corridor was hollow, and he hurried up as soon as he saw Lu Ziyan's figure.
Fang Xin saw that it was Li Ang but did not chase him away. What his grandmother said was right. As long as he faced this secret love head-on, he could turn love into friendship.
He warmly invited Li Ang to eat melon seeds and chat with him on this boring rainy day. As expected, Li Ang also asked about He Wan.
Fang Xin was always wary of Li Ang's questions. "I met He Wan during the last interview. He said he liked me very much and even asked for my autograph. Now that he is here and is ambitious, I will of course give him more guidance."
Lu Ziyan thought it was understandable after hearing these words. Others might not feel the same way, but Fang Xin definitely thought the same way. After spending some time with Fang Xin, he almost understood his character.
Li Ang didn't think so. He was worried that Fang Xin liked this type of person, and then he would have no chance.
Lu Ziyan next to him is no pushover either. It's obvious that he's being nice to Fang Xin with a purpose, otherwise why would he have warned him last time.
It didn't sound like a warning to a stranger, but rather a provocation.
The three of them each had their own thoughts, and after chatting for a while they heard grandma calling for dinner downstairs, so the three of them got up and went downstairs.
We usually eat in the courtyard, but now that everything has been moved inside it’s a bit crowded, so everyone sits together. Some people don’t come out to eat because they can’t get up, so there are still four or five people sitting at a small table to eat.
He Wan came hurriedly holding an umbrella. The short distance made his clothes wet. He blinked his watery eyes and looked at Fang Xin, "Senior, I don't have a seat to eat here, so I have to come here..."
Without saying a word, he gave the seat next to him to He Wan. Li Ang, who was kicked out, had a dark face and was now unable to eat.
Lu Ziyan was the first to speak, "If there's no seat, why don't you just eat with your bowl? You're rushing over here and getting wet in the rain. Don't catch a cold."
He Wan leaned close to Fang Xin and whispered, "I just arrived, and they don't like me... There's no share for me..."
It sounds heartbreaking, but Lu Ziyan and Li Ang were not affected. Before they could say anything, Fang Xin interrupted them, "Ziyan is right. Don't catch a cold in the heavy rain. Who knows, maybe we can start filming as soon as the rain stops in the next two days."
"Okay..." He Wan lowered his head in disappointment. Lu Ziyan smiled friendly when he heard it.
"But I can come over next time. They won't go too far if I'm here."
As he spoke, he patted He Wan's head, and He Wan's eyes lit up instantly, "Senior is still the best!"
Lu Ziyan felt deeply betrayed, his eyes were filled with resentment, Fang Xin shook his head helplessly and mouthed: "He is still young, don't bully him."
Then Lu Ziyan turned his head and ate his own food, ignoring him. Fang Xin sighed and put the extra bowl in front of He Wan.
It’s hard to explain, but he actually likes He Wan very much. Whenever he sees someone cute and weaker than himself, he always feels a little more sympathetic.
When he first debuted, many seniors excluded him. He was fine with being ignored, but if he did something to bully others, he would hope that someone would stand up for him.
Seeing He Wan is just like myself back then, without any background, only his own passion to support this job.
After dinner, He Wan refused Fang Xin's offer to go home with him. He went back alone with an umbrella. The road was slippery due to the rain and it was not yet light. Fang Xin repeatedly told him to be careful.
"You care too much about him." Li Ang was so elusive that Fang Xin was startled. "How could I care about him?"
After saying that, I turned around and went upstairs. Since there was no way to take a shower now, everyone went to bed much earlier.
The rain continued for two days in a row and it still didn't stop. Even Lin Qinghua couldn't hold it any longer.
No matter what, we have to shoot a few scenes, otherwise it won't work if we continue like this.
On the fourth day, the crew got up early, wrapped the equipment in rainproof cloth and took it out to shoot the indoor scenes first.
Fang Xin filmed her scenes with Hu Shu indoors first, and Li Ang also came to do Fang Xin's makeup. Lin Qinghua's surveillance camera was inside, but the camera had to shoot outside.
So the photographer was followed by people holding umbrellas, and the rain was getting heavier and there was no sign of it stopping.
As they were clapping, they suddenly heard a scream. Everyone stopped what they were doing and rushed to see what was going on.
Lin Qinghua took people outside to take a look. Someone stumbled and fell, then got up again. He shouted, "Save my parents!"
The crew members grabbed him and asked, "What happened?!"
The boy's tears and rain mixed together, and the mud made him dirty. "My parents are trapped under the mud... Save them..."
His legs were so weak that he couldn't stand up. He knelt straight on the ground. Fang Xin came out and held the boy with his hands. "Don't be afraid, don't be afraid. We will go. You stay here and wait for our news."
His tone was gentle, and he patted the boy gently to comfort him.
Lin Qinghua took his people and tools and rushed out in the rain. The little boy also ran in front to lead the way. Fang Xin stood where he was and felt that this was not a solution.
This is a village. Most of the houses were dug out at the foot of the mountain through reclamation. Almost all the houses are close to the foot of the mountain. If there is a landslide, more than one house will definitely be affected.
The sound of rain drowned out the screams of the people around, and dark clouds in the distance moved in again.
Lu Ziyan and the others were waiting for their parts at grandma's house, and they didn't come out. Even though there was no signal on the cell phone, Fang Xin called them again and again to confirm.
The signal is blocked and I can't get through.
Fang Xin held up his umbrella and was about to go back. Everyone else went to help, leaving only Fang Xin and Hu Shu to guard the machine.
"Senior, I'll go back and take a look. I'll be back if everything is ok."
Fang Xin picked up the umbrella and rushed to her grandmother's house. When she got closer, she saw that everything was fine at her grandmother's house and she breathed a sigh of relief.
Lu Ziyan was just about to leave at the door, preparing to go to the shooting location.
Seeing Fang Xin, the two met.
"Why did you come back alone? Where are Senior Hu and the others?" The rain was pouring heavily, and Lu Ziyan shouted, "Hurry up, the rain is too heavy!"
Except for her, everyone else has left her grandmother's house now. Fang Xin explained, and Lu Ziyan felt a little scared when he heard it.
Xu Xu was listening on the side, and after listening he skipped the filming location and rushed somewhere.
Fang Xin followed him immediately, and since Lu Ziyan had no fun staying alone, he followed him too.
As soon as I arrived, I saw someone kneeling on the ground, digging in a pile of mud with his bare hands, "Dad, where are you!"
The villagers were unable to take care of themselves and several landslides occurred, with the water flow gradually increasing.
The water in the fields was above the field ridges, the rivers were swift and yellow, the branches of the trees were bent by the rain, and water was flowing down from the mountains.
There had been three or four days of continuous heavy rain, which was getting heavier and heavier, and the whole village was being pounded by the rain.
The villagers who were not injured brought tools to dig, but all they dug out were corpses, lifeless, covered in yellow mud, and in distorted postures.
The boy was not at home because he was playing around. When he came back, the house had collapsed. No one responded to him no matter how much he shouted.
His parents' bodies were dug up and no one dared to tell him.
The emotional collapse invades everyone, natural disasters, man-made disasters, and helpless deaths.
Fang Xin brought the boy to where he lived. He tidied himself up and sat at the foot of the bed, silent and lifeless.
"Drink some hot water."
The boy didn't answer. His eyes were red and he was obviously a little upset.
Fang Xin's eyes suddenly turned red. He couldn't bear to look at the two twisted corpses. He trembled, but was powerless.
The boy felt it, he knew that the result of not hearing any news for so long would not be good, he clenched his trousers and his chin kept trembling.
"I shouldn't have gone out..."
What answered him was a fragrant embrace, and tears fell the moment he touched the embrace.
"Mom and Dad...I was wrong..."
Fang Xin held the boy, a thin child who was still growing and not very tall, and said, "It's not your fault. On the contrary, they are glad that you went out."
The boy burst into tears, "My mom and dad!"
The sound was so tragic that the eyes of the people downstairs couldn't help but turn red. It was the sadness of being helpless in the hands of fate. No one knew how many days it would rain, and no one knew which house would suffer a landslide.
Everything is unknown, and those who survive are left with nothing but sadness.
