Chapter 16 Hello, Sleeping Isn't Allowed Here
Although Ji Yanyan is only three years old, she is full of energy and jumps around the house all day long, with inexhaustible strength.
Ji Zhi Qiu couldn't resist any longer and agreed to take him to the amusement park on the weekend.
From that day on, Ji Yanyan stared at him intently, like a puppy smelling meat, her eyes sparkling. Ji Zhi Qiu felt a chill run down his spine from her gaze and wished he could go the next day. But Ji Zhi Qiu couldn't abandon his eldest son and refused her sternly.
Time suddenly seemed to slow down, and the weekend finally arrived after much anticipation.
As soon as it was light, Ji Yanyan woke up. Ji Zhiqi, still half asleep, went to the bathroom to wash up. When he came out, he saw Ji Yanyan carrying a bulging little backpack and pacing anxiously in the living room.
Ji Zhi Qiu frowned deeply, "Why did Yan Yan bring so much stuff?"
"These are all my good friends, and I'm going to take them with me."
Ji Zhi Qiu never understood children's words, so she didn't press for details. She simply said, "I won't carry your schoolbag for you. Don't come looking for me if you get tired."
Ji Yanyan, chin held high and nostrils flared, said arrogantly, "I can carry it myself!"
Ji Zhi Qiu sneered, "Are you sure?"
Ji Yanyan panicked and headbutted Ji Zhiqi like a little bull. But when he moved, his backpack was pulled off his back, causing him to lose his balance. His legs left the ground, and with the huge backpack behind him, he lay on his back like a turtle that couldn't turn over.
Ji Zhi Qiu burst out laughing, squatted down next to him to observe him closely, and almost wanted to take out her phone to take a picture: "How come I remember someone just said that he can carry it?"
Ji Yanyan glared angrily at Ji Zhiqi, flailing her arms and legs, but the schoolbag behind her was too heavy for her to stand up.
"Does Yan Yan still plan to go to the amusement park with his little backpack?" Ji Zhi Qiu gave him another chance.
The stubborn little donkey wanted to nod, but sensing danger from his father's forced smile, he pursed his lips, swallowed, and said, "No, no."
Ji Zhi Qiu raised an eyebrow and then bent down to rescue Ji Yan Yan, who was trapped inside the tortoise shell.
Ji Zishen also came out of the room, and the three of them set off together after finishing breakfast.
Ji Zhi Qiu's mind was foggy with sleepiness, and she stared blankly out the window. Ji Zi Shen was too lazy to pretend, his face expressionless, showing no expectation for the amusement park whatsoever. Only Ji Yan Yan, sitting in the middle, was like a wind-up little dumpling, bouncing from side to side, craning her neck, and looking out with bright eyes, even though she was wearing a seatbelt.
Finally arriving at the amusement park, Ji Zhi Qiu, who was prepared, grabbed Ji Yan Yan by the back of the neck and said, "Don't run around, be a good girl and come with me to queue up."
Ji Yanyan pouted, clearly unwilling, and charged off in another direction. In a daze, Ji Zhi Qiu felt like he was leading a wild horse, just short of kicking it off.
Fortunately, there weren't many tourists at this time, and they quickly entered the park. Ji Zhi Qiu took them directly to the children's playground, which was full of fun activities for children and was full of childlike innocence.
Ji Yanyan felt like she had returned to her happy hometown, wanting to try every activity, so Ji Zhi Qiu bought tickets for them all.
Ji Zishen was surprised to find himself involved and stood there stunned for a long time before chasing after him.
They played in the children's playground for two hours straight, trying out all the rides. Even the energetic Ji Yanyan was getting a little tired.
Ji Zhi Qiu seized the opportunity and led them outside.
Hehe, now that the two kids are done playing, it's his turn!
He looked around for a project he liked, but Ji Yanyan found it for him first: "Dad, what is this? It looks interesting, I want to play it."
Ji Zhi Qiu looked at the pirate ship, his eyes lighting up: "It really is a lot of fun."
Seeing that his father agreed with him, Ji Yanyan became even more enthusiastic, tugging at his clothes and shaking them back and forth, "I want to play, I want to play."
Ji Zhi Qiu smiled, walked to the project information board, pointed to a line of text, and said, "See this? This is a rule of the amusement park. Read it aloud."
Ji Yanyan blinked, looking completely innocent. "Dad, have you forgotten? I can't read."
Ji Zhi Qiu: "".
Just then, the pirate ship started moving. Ji Yanyan's attention was diverted by the continuous screams. After staring blankly at it for a while, she suddenly chickened out, "Okay, let's go play something else."
He took a few steps forward, and seeing that Ji Zhi Qiu hadn't followed, he turned around and looked at him in confusion: "Dad, I'm too small to play."
"Even though you can't play..." Ji Zhi Qiu's eyes grew brighter and brighter, filled with excitement: "But I'm just right!"
He didn't give Ji Yanyan time to react, and looked up at Ji Zishen. Ji Zishen was the future villain, and he was more mature than him. Ji Zhi Qiu trusted him completely: "Shen Shen, please keep an eye on your little brother and make sure he doesn't run around. I'll be right back."
As soon as he finished speaking, he ran inside as fast as he could, giving the two children no chance to stop him.
Ji Zishen: "..."
Ji Yanyan: "..."
After another ten seconds or so, Ji Yanyan finally realized what was happening and puffed up her cheeks in anger, "Daddy's bad! He actually went to play by himself!"
Ji Zishen glanced at Ji Yanyan, suppressing his disgust as he reached out his hand, "He'll be back soon, don't wander off."
Ji Yanyan wasn't close to this older brother, but she still habitually reached out her hand. The two brothers held hands; one was a chubby little dumpling with delicate features, and the other was a cute little boy with red lips and white teeth. They were very eye-catching and made people's hearts melt.
The staff member noticed them and, with a smile, walked over and half-squatted in front of them, saying with a grin, "Little friends, who did you come with?"
Ji Yanyan was naturally outgoing, and before speaking, she deliberately straightened her tongue, wanting to give strangers a good impression: "Dad."
"And what about Dad?"
Ji Yanyan thought about it seriously for a while, her little face scrunched up.
The staff immediately understood.
Children often get lost in amusement parks, mostly because they are distracted by the rides and sneak away when their parents aren't looking.
The two children standing next to the pirate ship, watching longingly, must have been in the same situation.
The father must be very anxious about losing two children. Feeling sorry for them, the staff member immediately said, "How about we take the children to find their father? Do you remember where your father is?"
Ji Yanyan blinked and pointed upwards.
The staff were dumbfounded. Looking up at the blue sky, they were so surprised they were almost incoherent. "Up in the sky?! How is that possible?!"
“He’s in heaven,” Ji Yanyan pouted, dissatisfied that her uncle didn’t believe her.
Ji Zishen couldn't stand this misunderstanding any longer. "He went to ride the pirate ship by himself and told the two of us to wait for him outside."
Amidst the stunned gazes of the staff, Ji Yanyan nodded emphatically and added, "Uncle, listen, he's so happy, he's the one shouting the loudest."
Staff: "..."
Staff: "..."
Staff: "..."
Well, this is the first time he's encountered someone leaving their child behind to go play after working here for so long.
“He’s such a…” he struggled to find the right words, “a lively and cheerful good father.”
Just as the project ended, Ji Zhi Qiu walked out with the crowd. As he looked for the two children, he also saw the staff member.
By the time he arrived, the staff member had already left. Recalling the complex look in his eyes during their eye contact, he asked, puzzled, "What were you talking about with that uncle?"
Ji Yanyan said innocently, "That uncle praised you for being lively and cheerful."
"..." It's a bit strange to be described as lively and cheerful at the age of almost thirty.
Ji Zhi Qiu didn't take it to heart and continued walking forward, holding one in each hand.
He never compromises on anything; he wants to play everything that interests him, his eyes shining with excitement as he flits around like a butterfly: "I want to play this, I want to play that too! I love it here, babies, wait for Daddy a little longer!"
More than an hour later, Ji Yanyan, who was usually full of energy, was completely exhausted. She tugged at Ji Zhi Qiu's clothes with a pitiful expression and said, "Dad, I'm tired. Can we go and rest for a while?"
Ji Zhi Qiu hesitated for a few seconds, looking reluctantly at the next activity, "Okay, let's rest for a while and then come back to play."
They found a bench, and after Ji Zhi Qiu settled the two children, she went to buy things.
Ji Zishen looked at Ji Zhiqi, who had returned with only two ice cream cones, and his eyes dimmed. He gave a self-deprecating smile.
Sure enough, he was just an outsider in this family, and he had nothing to his name.
To avoid feeling too embarrassed, he pretended not to see it until his arm was touched.
He stared blankly at Ji Zhi Qiu, who was so close to him. Ji Zhi Qiu didn't understand why the smart child had suddenly become stupid, and reminded him, "Take it."
After Ji Zhi Qiu gave one of the ice cream cones to Ji Zi Shen, she suddenly remembered something and hurriedly walked away.
Ji Yanyan stared blankly at Ji Zhi Qiu's retreating figure, then glanced at the ice cream cone in Ji Zi Shen's hand, and immediately bristled, lunging forward to snatch it, "This is mine, give it back to me!"
Ji Zishen had never taken Ji Yanyan seriously and was too lazy to argue with him. In the past, he would have given the ice cream cone to Ji Yanyan without hesitation. But Ji Zhiqi's actions just now made a certain thought stir in his heart. He didn't know what was wrong with him, but his attitude suddenly became tough and he took a step back. "This is mine. Why should I give it to you!"
Ji Yanyan has recently toned down his temper and seems to have become more obedient and sensible. However, this is only in front of Ji Zhi Qiu. When his father is not around, he immediately reverts to his true colors, screaming and waving his arms as he lunges forward, trying to snatch it by force.
But he was no match for Ji Zishen. Ji Zishen's clothes were perfectly straight, while Ji Yanyan was panting heavily and covered in sweat.
Enraged, he resorted to an extreme form of emotional expression, lying down on the ground, flailing his arms and legs, his body trembling, shouting, "I hate you! If you don't give it to me, I won't get up!"
Ji Yanyan's voice was already harsh, but when he saw Ji Zhiqi's figure, it was as if he had found someone to back him up, and he made a bigger fuss, making people feel a bit of eardrum pain.
Ji Zishen also noticed Ji Zhiqi, and stood there stunned, as if he had been slapped hard in the face. Some kind of illusion that he shouldn't have expected had shattered, and he had returned to reality.
He was adopted, he was unloved, and he deserved nothing.
When Ji Zhi Qiu saw his beloved son being bullied, he would definitely settle the score with him... Ji Zi Shen wasn't afraid at all. He just stared blankly at the ice cream in his hand. The ice cream had melted a little and flowed onto his hand, sticky and cold, just like his mood at that moment.
He slowly lowered his eyes, his gaze returning to calm. He slowly raised his hand, intending to return the ice cream before Ji Zhi Qiu could speak.
But instead of Ji Zhi Qiu's scolding, he received a single sentence...
He thought he had misheard and suddenly looked up.
Ji Zhi Qiu was in an unusually good mood. Looking at his eldest son, who was making a ruckus on the floor, he kindly reminded him again, "Hello, you're not allowed to sleep here."
Ji Zishen: "..."
Ji Yanyan: "..."
Neither of the brothers expected Ji Zhi Qiu to say this, and they stared at him blankly.
Ji Zhi Qiu remained calm, looked around once, and then raised an eyebrow at Ji Yan Yan. "Don't lie here, get up."
Although Ji Yanyan didn't understand what was said, when he saw his father come to coax him, he immediately got up arrogantly and deliberately stuck his butt out at Ji Zishen and shook it.
Ji Zishen's expression was indifferent; he had expected this long ago.
Although what he just said was unexpected, Ji Zhi Qiu would definitely side with his own son; it's only human nature, and no one can avoid that.
Unexpectedly, Ji Zhi Qiu didn't immediately coax Ji Yan Yan. Instead, he walked to the shade of the tree and waved to them.
Ji Yanyan immediately ran over eagerly, while Ji Zishen lagged a few steps behind, but still clearly heard the conversation between the father and son.
Ji Zhi Qiu sat comfortably on the steps, pointed to the clean ground, and said to Ji Yan Yan, "That's enough, you can lie down again."
"???" Ji Yanyan was completely dumbfounded, looking at Ji Zhi Qiu in confusion.
Ji Zhi Qiu smiled kindly, "That place is too sunny. Lying there for too long can easily cause sunburn or heatstroke. This place is much better. There's shade here, so you can lie here for as long as you want."
He has a father's love, but not much.
Ji Zhi Qiu ignored the bratty kid and turned her gaze to Ji Zi Shen. She frowned slightly and handed him a piece of paper: "Why aren't you eating it? It's all melted."
Ji Zishen sat down next to Ji Zhiqi in a daze, feeling as if he were in a dream, with a strong sense of unreality.
There were only two ice creams, but Ji Zhi Qiu gave him one and even handed him a tissue with concern. Was this really the Ji Zhi Qiu he knew?
He subconsciously licked his ice cream and pursed his lips.
It turns out it can be sweet too.
The two, one big and one small, enjoyed the shade of the tree and ate their ice cream with relish. Ji Yanyan lay on the ground, no longer making a fuss, and watched them longingly.
The ground was hard and cold, his back ached, and his mouth tasted bitter... He couldn't take it anymore, so he put his hands on the ground, got up on his own, and like a wronged puppy, he squatted on the ground, spun around twice, bit his tail, and cried out with a howl.
"I promised you I would buy each of you an ice cream when you come to the amusement park," Ji Zhi Qiu finally said.
Hearing this, Ji Yanyan couldn't hold back anymore and tears streamed down her face. "Daddy is bad. Daddy only loves my brother and doesn't love me at all."
Ji Zhi Qiu showed no mercy, staring straight at Ji Yan Yan, "But you already brushed your teeth last night, and you still insisted on eating ice cream before bed. I told you repeatedly that you had already finished your portion yesterday, and if you still wanted more, I wouldn't buy it for you when we come to the amusement park tomorrow. Didn't you agree so readily then? What are you doing now?"
Ji Yanyan clearly remembered this incident, pouting high. He had always been the little emperor of the family, domineering and tyrannical; how could he allow that ice cream cone to fall into Ji Zishen's hands? "But, but..."
Ji Zhi Qiu didn't give him a chance to continue, and took out a spoon from her pocket. "I specially went back to ask the vendor for this. Although you've already finished your ice cream, as long as you speak nicely and behave well, you can use this little spoon to get a few bites and even try two flavors at once. Isn't that great?"
Ji Yanyan was too guilty to cry anymore. She pursed her lips, ran to Ji Zhi Qiu, and reached out her little hand to take the spoon.
Ji Zhi Qiu dodged away, drawing out her words: "Huh?!"
Ji Yanyan knew that crying and making a fuss was useless. She sensed a hint of danger in her father's words. She lowered her head and twisted her little hands tightly together. After struggling for half a minute, she looked at him with pleading eyes and said, "Dad, I know I was wrong."
"Anything else?"
Although Ji Yanyan had a bad temper, she was quick to apologize when tempted by ice cream. She immediately turned around and wagged her tail at Ji Zishen, "Brother, I know I was wrong."
Hearing Ji Yanyan apologize would have been unthinkable in the past. Ji Zishen paused, looked at him with a complicated expression, and then nodded.
Ji Yanyan was easily pleased and took advantage of the situation, asking, "I like chocolate, can I have another bite?"
Ji Zishen: "..."
Seeing Ji Yanyan's foolish appearance, he suddenly felt deflated, realizing that he had been incredibly stupid to argue with her.
"Okay, as long as Dad agrees, you can eat as much as you want."
Once Ji Yanyan received permission, he immediately looked at Ji Zhi Qiu with pleading eyes. He would do anything for an extra bite of ice cream, and said ingratiatingly, "Dad, I won't lie on the ground anymore."
Ji Zhi Qiu took a bite of ice cream and said nonchalantly, "No need for that. You can lie down if you want. What does it have to do with me?"
Ji Yanyan: "..."
