Chen Manzi gripped the bag strap tightly, her knuckles turning white from the force.
The woman, once as proud as a peacock, now waits for alms like a beggar.
"Huo Hanting will definitely see me..."
She murmured to herself, her breath quickly dissipating into the air.
"Miss, you've been standing here for half an hour."
The security guard at the entrance couldn't help but suggest, "Why don't you come back another day?"
Chen Manzi suddenly looked up, a fierce glint in her eyes: "Who do you think you are? You dare to kick me out?"
She regretted it as soon as the words left her mouth; she was no longer the aloof and superior eldest daughter of the Chen family.
The security guard's expression shifted, but he maintained a professional smile: "I'm just suggesting..."
"sorry."
Chen Manzi took a deep breath and forced herself to calm down.
"Could you please go and inform them again? Just say... just say that Chen Manzi has something important to discuss."
The security guard hesitated for a moment, then turned and went inside.
Chen Manzi watched his retreating figure, her heart pounding wildly in her chest.
She subconsciously touched her face to confirm that her makeup was still exquisite and perfect.
Today, she specially wore the dress that Huo Hanting liked most in her previous life and sprayed the perfume that he used to like in his previous life.
"He'll definitely soften his heart..."
The security guard returned quickly, rubbing his hands awkwardly: "I'm sorry, you can't go in."
"Why?"
"Mr. Huo said he doesn't know you."
These words struck Chen Manzi like a heavy hammer blow.
She staggered back a step, her delicate features contorted into a grimace.
"Impossible! How could he not recognize me? You must not have told him it was me! Was it Fu Yu? Did Fu Yu tell you to say that?"
The security guard was startled by her reaction: "Miss, please calm down..."
"I don't believe it!"
Chen Manzi's shrill voice was particularly jarring in the silent hunting ground.
"Let me in! I want to ask him myself!"
She rushed inside without regard for her image, but was stopped by two security guards who grabbed her arms from both sides.
"Let me go! Do you know who I am?"
Chen Manzi struggled desperately, her hair disheveled, looking like a madwoman.
"Huo Hanting! Huo Hanting, come out here! I'm willing to be with you, isn't that enough? I can be your woman, please, please let the Chen family go!"
People began to peek out from the entrance of the hunting grounds, whispering amongst themselves.
Chen Manzi didn't care anymore; she couldn't care about anything else.
Ms. Chen is on the verge of death; her father is in the hospital, and her mother is constantly in tears. The compensation and losses seem like a bottomless pit...
"Huo Hanting! I'll give you anything you want! Please..."
Her voice lowered, trembling with sobs, "Please, please see me..."
Chen Manzi is prepared to sacrifice her freedom, happiness, and even her marriage with Gu Huai.
She gritted her teeth and thought to herself.
Even if everything goes back to square one, she'd do anything to save the Chen family.
"Let go."
A cold, sharp voice rang out.
The glass door slowly opened.
A tall figure stood against the light, radiating a suffocating sense of oppression.
"Let her go."
Huo Hanting's voice was deep and cold.
The security guard immediately released her, and Chen Manzi staggered to her feet, a hint of joy flashing in her eyes: "Han Ting! I knew you would..."
Her words came to an abrupt end.
The Huo Hanting before her was completely different from the one she remembered.
Those eyes that once held tenderness for her now held only disgust and indifference.
"Miss Chen."
Huo Hanting looked down at her, his tone distant as if he were talking to a stranger, "You've disturbed me and my wife."
Chen Manzi trembled all over, whether from the cold or shock, she didn't know: "What did you call me? Miss Chen? Between us..."
Huo Hanting interrupted her, "If you continue to harass me and my wife Fu Yu, I don't mind making the Chen family go bankrupt ahead of schedule."
wife?
Chen Manzi was stunned, as if struck by lightning. "You mean Fu Yu? That lackey? That..."
"Shut up!"
Huo Hanting flew into a rage, grabbing her by the neck, "If I hear you insult her again..."
Chen Manzi stared wide-eyed in horror; she had never seen Huo Hanting like this before.
In his past life, he cherished her dearly and couldn't bear to say a harsh word to her.
Now, however, he's hurting her because of Fu Yu.
"Why?"
She managed to squeeze out a few words.
Why her...?
"You clearly said you only loved me..."
Huo Hanting sneered and released his hand: "Love you? Why would I love a self-righteous, delusional madman? I think a mental hospital is more suitable for you than the Chen family."
He turned to leave, but Chen Manzi grabbed his sleeve tightly.
You can't do this to me!
Chen Manzi screamed hysterically, "You should love me! Who is Fu Yu? She..."
Snap!
A resounding slap interrupted her rant.
Chen Manzi covered her face, looking at Huo Hanting in disbelief.
"This slap was for Ayu."
Huo Hanting's eyes were terrifyingly cold. "If I hear you disrespecting Ayu again, I will make you wish you were dead."
A crowd of onlookers had already gathered at the entrance of the hunting grounds, and some had even taken out their phones to record videos.
Chen Manzi felt an unprecedented humiliation, and tears blurred her vision.
"What kind of curse did Fu Yu cast on you? What gives her the right to..."
Huo Hanting found Chen Manzi in front of him to be completely unreasonable.
He had met many socialites who actively tried to seduce him.
But Chen Manzi, who has little interaction with him, is the first person to fantasize that Huo Hanting likes her.
