Chapter 23 Trial Lesson
The voice sounded familiar yet a little hesitant. Lin Qiao turned around and found Ji Ze standing not far away with his hands in his pockets, his collar open and his military cap tucked under his epaulettes.
Next to him was the counter selling cigarettes, alcohol, sugar and tea. He had a cigarette box and change in his hand, so he must have come to buy cigarettes.
Maybe it was because of Ye Minshu that the nephew always felt uncomfortable when he saw her. He was usually busy and went back to the old house less often than Ji Jun and Ye Minshu. This was the first time they met in private. Lin Qiao was a little surprised, "You are also in this military area?"
Ji Ze responded vaguely and asked again: "I just heard you ask the salesperson, you want olive oil?"
He actually didn't want to talk to her, and when he first saw Lin Qiao, he even wanted to avoid her.
After all, the two of them had that kind of relationship before. Even if Lin Qiao didn't know, he would just feel embarrassed when he saw them.
But Lin Qiao walked around for a long time and even asked the salesperson, obviously he really needed this thing. He was about to leave, but his feet stayed where they were, and his mouth was even more uncontrollable, so he asked the question himself.
Lin Qiao had no idea of his complicated feelings and thought that his awkwardness in front of her was due to the not-so-good relationship between her and his mother.
But since she was getting married, the gift from the other party was considered a valuable one, so she still answered truthfully: "I want to make something myself."
When Ji Ze asked her, he didn't really want to know why she wanted olive oil.
To be honest, he didn't even know why he asked. Maybe he felt guilty, or maybe he remembered what his uncle said that night.
After hearing Lin Qiao's answer, he just nodded randomly, "Olive oil, right? I'll ask for you when I have time."
"Then I'll trouble you." Lin Qiao didn't expect him to help, but he was willing to help, so she thanked him. Thinking that she had to go back to the old house soon, she politely asked this nephew who was older than her: "I'm going back to see your grandpa and grandma later, do you want to go with me?"
"I won't go. I'll have time another day."
Ji Ze didn't want to stay with her at all, so he made an excuse that he had something else to do and left quickly. After he had walked a long way, he realized that the cigarette box had been deformed by him.
This is really something, why do I have to talk to you?
But I have done it, I have promised, I will just consider it as my way of compensating her, after all, I was wrong in that matter...
Ji Ze flicked a cigarette and put it in his mouth. He tilted his head to light it and called a familiar comrade, "I remember your family is from the south. Do you know what olive oil is?"
Early in the morning on a weekend, some of his childhood friends were still sleeping in their beds when he called them at home and asked, "Can you get some olive oil?"
The childhood friend was sobered up by the anger, "No, what's wrong with you? Is this why you woke me up so early in the morning?"
"Hasn't someone from your family been transferred there? Just tell me if you can get it."
Just for a little oil, he got so angry that he hung up the phone, "You're crazy!" Then the phone rang again right after he hung up.
When Ji Ze was harassing others everywhere, Lin Qiao had already boarded the bus back to Yandu.
Since Ji Duo was not there, she did not use Xiao Fang's car. She saw a fruit vendor on the road and got off the car in advance to buy some big peaches.
When she entered the house, Aunt Zhang was picking vegetables in the yard. When she saw her, she immediately called inside, "Xiao Lin is back!" She pointed to the kitchen and said, "I knew you were coming back today. I've been talking about you since morning and even asked me to buy some pork ribs to stew for you."
"Then I'm in for a treat." Lin Qiao smiled.
Xiang Xiang moved the peach to his left hand again, took out a few plasters from his bag and gave them to the other person, "Didn't you say your knee hurt last time? Do you want to try this?"
"For me?" Aunt Zhang was a little surprised.
The last time she didn't bring it up on purpose, it was one day when she went out to take out the trash and her legs weren't working properly and Lin Qiao noticed it.
Unexpectedly, Lin Qiao was thoughtful enough to not only remember but also bring her some plasters. "There is an old comrade in our school who didn't take good care of herself after her confinement. She has knee pain. I saw that this plaster worked well for her, so I asked her if you could try it and see if it worked."
"Yes, I got this disease from the confinement period." Aunt Zhang wiped her hands and took it. "How much?"
When Lin Qiao first came to the Ji family, she spent more time with Aunt Zhang than anyone else. She also learned most of her knowledge about Yandu from Aunt Zhang. She didn't ask for money. "Please use these two patches first. If they work, I'll tell you where to buy them."
Aunt Zhang wanted to say something else, but Xu Li had already heard her voice and came out to greet her, "You kid, you just came back, why did you buy anything?"
"Isn't that what I am craving for? I saw some for sale on the street and bought it."
Obviously, it was bought for the old couple, but Lin Qiao said that she was greedy. Xu Li laughed and looked behind her, "Where is the second brother?"
"His troops have a mission and are out on the road."
Xu Li's expression showed some disappointment, but she had come from a war-torn background, so she wasn't so worried when she heard that her son had gone on a mission. "When did he leave? Were you scared staying home alone these two days?"
"He left the day before yesterday. I'm fine. Brigade Commander Liang next door is a nice guy. He told me to go to him if I have any problems."
Although Liang's lover has never been very enthusiastic about her, it seems
Although he didn't like her very much, he still sent her some dry food. I don't know if it was Commander Liang's order.
"I don't know how many days it will take for him to come back." Xu Li was still worried about Lin Qiao being alone, "Why don't you stay at home for two days?"
Since Lin Qiao moved in, the family has become more lively. Later, in order to prepare for the wedding, Ji Duo, who usually didn't come home for ten days or half a month, rarely came home often. The old couple were used to the hustle and bustle, and they always felt that something was missing when Lin Qiao and Ji Duo left.
Lin Qiao also knew this, so even though Ji Duo was not at home, she still came back by herself.
But now she has found a job and can't come back to live. Just as I was about to explain, I heard a familiar childish voice, "Look, it's not that I don't study hard, it's that this question is too difficult, Grandpa, don't you know how to do it?"
At the corner of the coffee table in the living room, Grandpa Ji and Ji Ling were sitting on either side, frowning as they looked at their homework books.
The old man was wearing reading glasses, with his hands on his knees. Not only did he look solemn, but he also sat there as if he was facing a formidable enemy. He thought it was no problem that he couldn't do it, "How old am I? How can I still remember these things?"
"Then how come grandma still remembers it?"
"Your grandmother was a teacher, so she remembers everything normally."
"If I can't do it, I can't watch TV. If Grandpa can't do it either, how can he watch TV?"
No one knew who the little girl learned this from, but she kept talking about all these weird and twisted theories.
Grandpa Ji has a very hot temper. He usually disciplines his sons and grandsons, but he is completely helpless when it comes to his little granddaughter.
Seeing the two people come in, he felt as if he had been pardoned, "Qiao Qiao is back."
Lin Qiao wanted to laugh when she saw this, so she quickly washed the big peaches she bought and helped her grandfather out, "Eat a peach and rest for a while."
"Yes, eat a peach and rest for a while."
Grandpa Ji heaved a sigh of relief. Seeing that his granddaughter's attention had been successfully diverted, he then remembered that he had not seen his own son. "Where's the second son?"
"He went on a mission." Lin Qiao explained again.
The old man's reaction was even calmer than Xu Li's. Perhaps as people who have seen mountains of corpses and seas of blood, there are very few things that can make them change color.
Ji Ling rolled her eyes and approached Lin Qiao while biting a peach. "My uncle is out on a mission. Aren't you alone at home?"
This little girl is very clever. Lin Qiao knew what she was up to at a glance. He suppressed his laughter and nodded, "Yes."
Ji Ling immediately said, "Then I'll go over and accompany you, so you don't get scared being alone at home."
"You want to watch TV since your uncle is not around, right?" Old Master Ji had just been tortured for a long time and couldn't help but complain.
Ji Ling pretended not to hear and tugged at the corner of Lin Qiao's clothes with her little hand, "Auntie, just let me go~" and shook her twice in a coquettish manner.
Lin Qiao couldn't stand the old man's expression anymore, so she smiled and nodded, "Okay."
"real?!"
Ji Ling's eyes lit up, but before she could be happy, she heard Lin Qiao say, "It just so happens that your aunt has just become a glorious people's teacher, and she can supervise you in doing your homework."
Ji Ling: “…”
There is probably nothing more painful than having to face the teacher when going to school and facing the teacher again when going home.
If there is, then I will have to face two teachers when I get home, after all, that’s twice the pain…
Ji Ling was now in a state of pain ×2, and she became completely depressed as soon as she loosened her grip.
But when Xu Li heard Lin Qiao's words, she was stunned at first, then showed surprise, "You found a job?"
Seeing Lin Qiao nod, she couldn't help but smile from the corners of her eyes to the tips of her eyebrows, "It's good to be a teacher. It can be regarded as inheriting my legacy."
She was a teacher herself, but unfortunately her son was more suitable for the army than his father. She wanted to introduce a teacher to him as a wife, but he refused. Unexpectedly, after many twists and turns, Lin Qiao became a teacher.
"I haven't officially started teaching yet, and I want to take the college entrance examination next year." Lin Qiao still expressed his thoughts.
Xu Li didn't care that much. "It doesn't matter what you do. Just do what you like. I'm just saying it."
But he still hesitated, "Have you told the second child about the college entrance examination?"
It’s not that she doesn’t want Lin Qiao to study more, but university takes four years, and her second child is not young anymore, so she is a little anxious to have a grandson.
"I mentioned it to Ji Duo." Lin Qiao told the truth.
Xu Li didn't say anything more. Ji Duo always had his own ideas, and he had no opinion. So it was useless for anyone else to have an opinion.
If it were someone else, a stronger mother-in-law would talk to her son and if she couldn't persuade him, she would talk to her daughter-in-law and put all kinds of pressure on her to make her give up. But Ji Duo...
If Lin Qiao dared to tell him that she suddenly didn't want to take the exam anymore, Ji Duo would definitely be the first to suspect them.
This is the downside of raising a son who is too talented. Since Ji Duo was 16 years old, they have been unable to guess what he is thinking, but he can always guess their thoughts correctly.
Xu Li didn't mention it, the old man didn't mention it, and it was even less likely that Lin Qiao would mention it.
Seeing that Ji Ling was a child after all, she became distracted after a while and secretly reached for the remote control. Lin Qiao took advantage of her inattention and casually said, "By the way, I ran into Song Jing at school yesterday."
"The girl from the Song family?" Old Master Ji raised his eyebrows.
Although one of the father and son has a hot temper and the other is cold and serious, Ji Duo is quite like his grandfather in some ways, such as the action of raising his eyebrows.
Lin Qiao nodded. "Yes, I met him in our vice-principal's office. A chemistry teacher in our high school broke his leg, and the school is short of teachers."
She didn't know whether this was something worthy of attention, but Song Jing's attitude was somewhat obvious, so she still mentioned it to the old couple.
Upon hearing this, Master Ji looked at Xu Li and asked, "Is this a coincidence or is this intentional?"
It's not that they think too much, Ji Ze is in that military district.
But Xu Li was not sure about this matter, so she just explained to Lin Qiao, "Your sister-in-law asked her to pretend to be Xiaoze's partner, and her family never denied it."
Lin Qiao understood what she said. No wonder she didn't invite the Song family to her wedding. Song Jing came anyway. When they met at school that day, she also wanted to get close to her.
The few of them didn't talk about this topic anymore. After lunch, Lin Qiao took the bus back to the army in the afternoon.
Although Xu Li wanted to keep him, Lin Qiao still had to go to work tomorrow, so she could only fill a lunch box with pork ribs for Lin Qiao, "Go home and heat it up, so you don't have to cook."
Ji Ling wanted to stay in the old house. "Auntie, when you change jobs, you must tell me."
After Ji Duo married Lin Qiao, she began to frequently visit the old house again. Judging from her expression, the atmosphere at home should not be so tense anymore.
Lin Qiao was not interested in what was happening at her uncle's house. She just pinched the little girl's chubby face and asked, "You really don't like studying?"
The little girl's eyes widened in shock when she heard this. "Do you really like studying?"
That look made it seem as if if Lin Qiao dared to say "yes", she would immediately sever ties with Lin Qiao and end their aunt-niece relationship.
Lin Qiao really couldn't help it, so he pinched her face again, causing the little girl to puff up her cheeks in dissatisfaction, and then he said goodbye and left.
The next day, when they met at school, Song Jing had adjusted her mood. She was holding the lesson plan with a calm expression and a confident look. She politely asked Lin Qiao, "Who do you think should speak first, me or you?"
"Then I'll go first." Lin Qiao was not polite to her at all.
The advantage of speaking first is obvious. As long as you speak well, the pressure will be on the person who speaks later. After all, a class lasts 45 minutes. The leaders are probably impatient after the second class. Unless the latter is much better than the former, it is difficult to stand out.
But think about it from another angle: as long as the latter part is much better than the former and the contrast is obvious, no one will think there is anything wrong with choosing her.
Song Jing smiled and said, "I can do anything. You can talk first."
The two of them negotiated it themselves, and the leaders didn't need to worry about it. They just moved a few chairs and sat in the back to listen.
Song Jing was also sitting in the back, with a notebook spread out on her lap. Apart from anything else, her serious attitude was still admirable.
Soon Lin Qiao came on stage. Just as he was about to open his mouth, a few troublemakers in the audience whistled.
If this happened a few decades later, the students would definitely not dare to do this, especially with several leaders sitting in the back as auditors. But that decade had just ended, and these students had all written big-character posters criticizing their teachers. What did the leaders matter? The leaders still had to be criticized when they deserved to be criticized.
In comparison, the situation in junior high school is much better. After all, the students are young, and the worst years have already passed when they were in school.
Lin Qiao's expression didn't change. He waited until the noise calmed down a bit before speaking again, "Classmates..."
Before the word "good" came out, there were several drawn-out "噓"s.
Vice Principal Qi's face was already a little ugly, and Old Qu also asked him quietly: "Why is Huaiwen's class so noisy? Are they going to make people cry?"
Young girl
If you are thin-skinned, you may not be able to bear such teasing. Whether you cry in anger, run away in anger, or can't stand it anymore and quarrel with these students, the scene will not be very good.
Vice Principal Qi frowned and was about to speak out to emphasize classroom discipline when Lin Qiao put the book on the podium in front of him.
This was a loud noise, and Old Qu couldn't help but say, "Oh no, she's not really going to quarrel with the students, is she?"
Song Jing also felt that Lin Qiao's character was a little poor. Which teacher hasn't encountered a few troublesome students? Sometimes you have to be patient.
Unexpectedly, Lin Qiao just put his hands on the podium and raised his eyebrows, "Do you think I am only a few years old and have no right to be your teacher?"
She had a bright and aggressive look, and her raised eyebrows instantly made her more aggressive. And the reason why those troublemakers scolded her was because she looked young, but they didn't expect her to say it out loud.
There was a moment of silence, and compared to the whistles and hisses before, the few "yes" answers were sparse.
Lin Qiao smiled and glanced at those troublemakers, then pulled out a piece of paper from the lesson plan, "Is there anyone who would like to come up and help me? I'll tell you how old I am this year."
It was another unexpected statement, but it was also really useful. Surprise, doubt and curiosity overwhelmed the previous booing. After all, it was a blank piece of paper with no words on it.
A student immediately raised his hand, "Me! I'll do it!" Without waiting for Lin Qiao to nod, he rushed onto the podium and asked, "How do we do it?"
Lin Qiao took a look and found that it was an acquaintance, a soldier from the family of Brigade Commander Liang next door.
The soldier must have recognized her, because he whistled when she first came in, and then when others whistled at her again, his voice became much quieter.
Lin Qiao handed him the paper and a box of matches. "Try burning them. Chemistry will tell you the answer."
The soldier took it and drew a line, and soon brown words really appeared on the white paper.
"Ten, ten...what number is this?" The students below followed him to identify it, and thought he was too slow. A boy in the front row rushed up to grill with him.
The two of them moved faster, and soon the words were fully visible - "Nineteen."
He was about as young as they thought, but at the moment everyone's attention was on the paper and no one paid much attention to Lin Qiao's age.
"This is my name." Lin Qiao handed over another one.
The two boys worked together to bake out the two words above - "Lin Qiao." The writing was concise and neat.
Lin Qiao also wrote these two words on the blackboard, "'The east wind is not favorable to Zhou Lang, and the bronze sparrows are locked up in the deep spring.' Everyone should have learned this, right?"
"I have learned it." This time the answers were much more consistent.
The soldier held the two pieces of paper and turned them over and over, but couldn't figure it out. "How did they do that?"
Lin Qiao smiled but said nothing. She took out a small medicine bottle with liquid and a brush from her bag. "I will choose another student to come up. You can write what you want on a piece of white paper. We will roast it after class. I will tell you what is inside then, and you can guess now."
The students' curiosity had already been aroused by her, and many of them raised their hands. The enthusiasm in the classroom was completely different from when she first arrived.
Old Qu was a little curious, "What on earth is she using?"
"Vinegar, or scallion juice, or garlic juice?" The stools that students used for class were a little small, so the team leader kept moving slightly to adjust. "Writing on paper will form a layer of film, which has a lower burning point than the paper. Once it is baked, it will burn and show brown words."
Song Jing listened at the side with a complicated expression.
She also knew about this little experiment, and she was going to use it to liven up the atmosphere before the class when she was preparing to give it.
But she didn't expect to use the students' doubts about her as a starting point, and she didn't expect to keep people's appetite whetted until after class.
Lin Qiao grabbed all the students' attention with just a few words. In comparison, her little experiment seemed quite ordinary.
Song Jing pursed her lips and listened more attentively. However, Lin Qiao did not make a single mistake during the entire class.
Not only did she not make any mistakes, but her words were also very interesting, always making the students laugh. By the time the class was over, the students who had written something down on paper could no longer wait, and the others also had bright eyes and spoke out their own guesses.
Lin Qiao said nothing, but handed the small medicine bottle to a few students to smell.
The soldier went over to sniff it, his eyes widened, "Garlic?"
"You can also squeeze the juice from the white part of scallions." Lin Qiao wrote down several common ingredients on the blackboard. "Students who are interested can try it after returning home. That's all for this class. Thank you for your cooperation. I hope we can meet again someday."
"Are there any more small experiments before we go?" a classmate asked below.
"That depends on whether Principal Qi allows us to meet again." Lin Qiao winked at them, "My words don't count."
Everyone laughed and turned to look at the vice-president.
Vice Principal Qi was also smiling. He was very satisfied with Lin Qiao's class. It could even be said that it gave him a surprise.
Team leader Gao was even more satisfied, as he no longer had to substitute for Lao Jiao.
Even Lao Qu was saying as he left the classroom: "Where did you find such a good talent? She is really good at stirring up the atmosphere and speaking well. She doesn't sound like a girl who just graduated from high school at all."
Only Song Jing's expression became increasingly reluctant.
Lin Qiao’s lecture was so good that it was hard to surpass her. The little experiment I had prepared was obviously useless.
If she hadn't asked Lin Qiao, she would have said it first...
Some things cannot be thought about too much. Song Jing quickly suppressed the thought, cheered herself up, and prepared for her trial lecture in another class.
This attitude impressed Vice Principal Qi. “I thought she would be affected and not be able to perform at her best.”
The person was someone Lao Qu had invited. Lao Qu felt even more complicated. "The class was pretty good, but it was a pity that I ran into an antagonist."
Lin Qiao's performance was so outstanding, they couldn't have done something behind the scenes and pushed Song Jing up, right?
Not to mention that Song Jing hasn't graduated yet, so there's no need to go through so much trouble. Just say that Lin Qiao is Captain Ji's wife and Xu Li's daughter-in-law, so this matter is not easy to handle.
Finally, when Song Jing finished her speech, Vice Principal Qi just smiled and said, "You are welcome to come to our school for internship next semester."
Song Jing still had something to understand. Although she felt frustrated, she maintained a good demeanor on the surface and said, "Thank you, Principal Qi, for your recognition."
When he looked at Lin Qiao, he smiled and said, "You speak very well."
Compared to the confident tone when I came here, my tone always seems a little unnatural.
Lin Qiao pretended not to notice and accepted it generously, "Thank you."
Once the candidate was chosen, she had to go back to her original office to pack up.
Seeing her put all her belongings into her bag and return the book that Teacher Yang had given her, Teacher Zheng, who had always disliked her, raised his eyebrows and said, "Is this because I teach you so poorly? I don't allow you to do it anymore?"
"How can that be possible?" Facing her malicious gaze, Lin Qiao also raised his eyebrows, "I'm going to teach in high school."
