Chapter 69 A Superb Show, Noble Character, Donning the Clown's Robe...

Chapter 69 A Superb Show, Noble Character, Donning the Clown's Robe...

"Tsk, I still prefer the time when you were little, when you rushed up to me and yelled, 'Why are you messing with my fate?' You were so silly and short back then, it was so funny."

You Shi pressed his thumb on Gu Tu's chin, turned her head, and examined her expression with great interest, as if judging whether her resignation was genuine. "If resistance were useful, the one imprisoned at the bottom of the mountain now would not be the leader of the uprising, but you, the chosen one of the Lord of the Pure Sea."

"Wow, you hate me that much?"

Gu Tu coldly slapped You Shi's hand away, loosened the top two buttons, and a sickly flush appeared on her fair face. Her eyes held undisguised malice, and she sneered:

"Oh, no, although you're more annoying, you're much smarter than that dog. The rebels don't even have to lift a finger; you'll just withdraw from the Ocean Research Center and stab your old master in the back."

"How could you think of me like that? I'll feel embarrassed if you've hit the nail on the head."

Gu Tu choked, feeling there was no point in talking to this madman. She took a deep breath and said, "Why did you call me here today? Didn't we agree not to contact each other if there's anything important?"

"It feels like a lot of people have said this to me lately..."

Yu Shi muttered a few more nonsensical and nonsensical words, his tone still light and irreverent, but his voice had some extra noise, sounding like waves crashing on the beach under the moonlight.

"There have been quite a few unexpected events lately. I'd like to ask you, have you encountered anyone recently who has broken free from the control of 'fate'?"

Gu Tu frowned, somewhat puzzled as to why You Shi asked such a question, and replied in a lukewarm manner, "Everything is normal... If there's anything strange, it's that the [Wheel of Fate] I got from Du Yu hasn't been fused very well."

"Oh, really?"

Yu Shi paused slightly, a glint of light flashing in his eyes: "That shouldn't be the case. The original owner is already dead. You meet the requirements. The Wheel of Fate shouldn't be rejecting you like this."

As he spoke, You Shi gripped Gu Tu's left hand, using his spiritual power to sense the area. Finding nothing unusual, he pointed meaningfully at Gu Tu's chest:

"Don't always look like a victim. Although you were indeed a candidate for the Wheel of Fortune, if that person hadn't been so arrogant, how could you have become the chosen one favored by fate? How could you have obtained such a precious trait as the Wheel of Fortune?"

"You know, even among the senior management of the Ocean Research Center, quite a few people want this."

"A chosen one? A 'darling' of fate who is constantly abandoned, constantly provoked, always faces difficulties in doing anything, and must rely on others to succeed?"

"Of course, my lady."

"One is a social scum from the lower city, with a bloodline that doesn't even have a genetic sequence rating; the other is a darling of fate with exceptional talent, who can even attract the favor of fate and awaken A-level traits under that person's blockade."

You Shi withdrew his hand and paced around Gu Tu, his smile seemingly tinged with deep mockery: "But look at us now. Back then, it was like heaven and earth, but now who is in heaven and who is on earth? Who enjoys wealth and power, and who has become a clown in a play and left the stage in disgrace?"

"All are prisoners under fate, and there is no freedom in the realm of the masses. Only by knowing this and deeply implementing it can one properly grovel at His feet and become a rich and powerful lackey."

"you mean……"

Gu Tu couldn't help but touch her chest, somewhat lost in thought. Although she now possessed Du Yu's most precious possession, she had actually heard very little about Du Yu's deeds.

The first time she heard the name "Du Yu" was after she realized that everything around her was too coincidental, almost as ridiculous as a third-rate novel, and that she had found the group of religious fanatics who believed in the Lord of the Pure Sea.

The search went incredibly smoothly, but what can you expect when she's the protagonist of a "novel"? A protagonist can succeed at anything they want. And what can you expect when there are more cultists than cockroaches in the downtown area?

Resentment? Anger? Yes, there was at first.

After all, no one likes having their fate entirely controlled by others, every person they meet, and every action they take being the result of meticulous planning, as if the entire meaning of life is simply to add some fun for that great being.

But when You Shi grabbed her by the collar, easily knocked away that ridiculous, outdated machine gun, and carried her to the tallest building in the lower city, with her entire weight resting on that poor-quality top, her impulsiveness cooled rapidly, and she became so calm that even she was somewhat alarmed—

"This is so annoying. The kids in Sun City are getting worse with each generation. Don't you kids read fantasy novels anymore? Why are you all realizing the problem so quickly? This is putting me in a difficult position. If I kill them all, where am I going to find new 'Fate' darlings that meet the requirements?"

The woman with terrifying fighting power was holding her by the collar. If she let go, she would instantly fall from a hundred stories high. But the madwoman looked troubled, as if she were the one facing a life-or-death crisis.

"I didn't refuse!"

"Huh?"

Taking advantage of the madwoman's momentary daze, she told her to put her down. Her toes touched the ground again, and her legs gave way, causing her to collapse to the floor. She still managed to lift her head, staring intently at the madwoman before her.

"You still want me, so I must be of some use, right? Whatever you want to do, I'll cooperate with you! If I die, finding someone else would be a hassle for you, wouldn't it?"

"Interesting, truly interesting. A pampered young lady from a wealthy family, living a life of luxury and possessing exceptional talent, yet she refuses to blindly accept the bait of 'fate.'"

The madwoman stared at her pale face in astonishment, as if she had encountered something amusing, and a malicious smile curled at the corners of her lips:

"'Freedom should be the way out of fate,' that's what Du Yu said, I think I remember correctly... But you, a bastard who lives no better than a beggar, don't even know where the gate to the upper city is, yet you're so afraid of death?"

"I don't know any of these young ladies you're talking about."

Gu Tu swallowed hard to soothe her burning throat. "But the more you have nothing, the more you should hold on to what you have left, right?"

The madwoman seemed to want to say something, then suddenly tilted her head slightly, and a sound like the tides seemed to rise from her eyes. After a moment, the smile on her lips widened, as if she had heard some incredibly funny joke:

"Hahahaha, interesting, really interesting. People who resist wholeheartedly cannot be changed, while people who obey wholeheartedly have successfully changed the 'script'."

You Shi affectionately pulled her up, personally brushed off the dust from the hem of her clothes, smoothed out every wrinkle, and his eyes flashed with the purest malice in the world, untainted by any impurities.

Years later, whenever Gu Tu was awakened by nightmares at midnight, those malicious eyes and that venomous, snake-like whisper would still appear before her eyes:

"Noble character dons the clown's robe, and despicable villains seize the laurel of fate. This will be a magnificent show. Boldly pursue everything you desire, and God will reward your greed."

When Gu Tu returned home, she fell seriously ill in a daze and completely forgot her conversation with the demon on the rooftop.

When she saw the elegantly dressed, graceful girl with a melancholy look in her eyes while she was silent in a hotel in District 03, everything she had forgotten suddenly came back to her. The overwhelming and astonishing amount of information made her body stiffen, her blood rush back, and she lost her balance, spilling her wine on the dress that looked like it cost her ten years' salary.

For a moment, compared to the ethereal evil god or being used as a pawn to investigate abnormal fluctuations in fate, she was still very spineless, and her biggest worry was the issue of compensation for the dress.

The follower standing behind the young lady cried out in alarm and anger, but she waved her hand, lifted her skirt to look at herself, and gave herself a kind smile: "You weren't scared, were you?"

Kindness is a luxury even rarer than money for the people of the lower city. Gu Tu had never been treated like this before and didn't know how to respond. She could only awkwardly imitate the other person, subconsciously curling her lips into a blank smile.

But the moment she smiled, Gu Tu's heart skipped a beat, and a strange panic swept through her body. It seemed as if she could hear the rapidly spinning hands of a pointer in the void, accompanied by the sound of waves crashing that seemed to never stop.

"It's just a dress, isn't it? You have so many dresses in your closet, why are you being so aggressive? Look, you've scared this lovely lady."

Suddenly, the man half-embraced Gu Tu, who was in a daze as if her soul had left her body. The first person she looked at was Du Yu.

But in those crystal-clear purple eyes, the gentleness, tranquility, and the deep-seated, long-standing melancholy had all vanished, replaced by an emptiness more terrifying than rage.

"No……"

That's not how it works...

Gu Tu's lips moved, but before she could utter a pale explanation, her consciousness seemed to detach from her body, and she observed the farce unfolding before her from a superior perspective.

A furious expression, completely incongruous with her beautiful face, appeared on Du Yu's face. The slender, soft hands that had just tried to help her up slapped her own face.

Her movements were exaggerated and comical, like a poorly made theatrical actor in some third-rate show. Yet, despite the large number of security guards present, not a single one could stop her. They all watched the farce with stunned expressions, like puppets.

"Click-clack".

The sound in her ears grew more intense and crisp, becoming increasingly urgent. Although it was the first time she had heard it, Gu Tu seemed to suddenly know its name: [Wheel of Fate].

The conversation she had with the devil in her childhood resurfaced in her ears, as if the madman was right beside her, mocking her arrogance and foolishness: "...Go after everything you want, and God will reward your greed."

"Isn't this what you've been looking for? Noble character dressed in a clown's robe, a despicable person seizing the crown of fate... a truly magnificent show."

"...Is she really dead?"

"Otherwise what?"

Yu Shi looked back in surprise, "Otherwise, where do you think your special qualities came from?"

Gu Tu suddenly felt bored. This wasn't what she wanted to confirm. Aside from the madwoman in front of her, perhaps only she truly understood the girl whose smile was both bright and melancholic. But had that girl, because of her, died a tragic and misunderstood death, like a madwoman?

There's no point in even saying this.

Gu Tu frowned and gave You Shi the order to leave: "You should go. There are unusual occurrences in your life, and I will inform you."

The reason why a despicable person is despicable is that she never regrets her actions.
