Chapter 78 Justice Punishes Bian Shaoyan, Death.
"Bang—"
At the critical moment, the protector knelt on one knee, his arm suddenly piercing through the roof of the truck, causing distorted ripples in the space. Bian Shaoyan was forcibly pulled out of the truck, dodging the golden breath that followed, which resembled the breath of death.
"Smack!"
Before he could recover from the terror of near death, the protector grabbed his collar, and his other arm melted instantly, spreading to both sides, turning into a shield of light in a few breaths, firmly enveloping the two of them, and narrowly blocking the purple flames that followed closely behind.
With the evil god's retinue being dealt with by protectors, Bian Shaoyan finally came to his senses. He glanced grimly at the still unresponsive quantum computer, a flash of silver light in his hand that traveled down to his left leg. With a muffled groan, the balance in mid-air swung rapidly, the metal fragments on the monster's back trembled, and the weight suddenly increased, pressing the newly freed monster down heavily again.
Shao Yan reacted quickly, clicking his tongue in annoyance. He sent a wisp of purple fire to Cai Chunyu and the others, instructing them to retrieve the Holy Grail fragments from the monster's back, while he himself blocked the protector's attack.
The protectors only defended and did not attack, so Du Yu couldn't do anything about it for a while and could only pay attention to Cai Chunyu and the others' progress.
Before entering the portal, 166 handed the puppy that couldn't find its original body to Du Yu, mysteriously saying it would be useful.
As soon as Du Yu passed through the spatial portal, he felt the puppy in his arms establish a connection with a certain entity in a hidden space, and he sensed that the number of believers nearby had increased by one.
The link from an ordinary believer was like exchanging a greeting as you brushed past someone, but this link, which seemed to be Xiao Yi's clone, was like being separated from Du Yu by a mountain; the sound had to go through countless obstacles before it could even make a slight echo.
While fighting, Du Yu also focused his attention on strengthening the connection with the little black dog. Finally, when the protector appeared and Bian Shaoyan started the truck, the "mountain" loosened for a moment. Du Yu seized the opportunity and sent a massive amount of mental energy through the connection. With the help of the little black dog, the other side was able to break free from its restraints for a while.
Shao Yan is also a ruthless person. He sacrificed his left leg by some unknown means. Originally, Xiao Yi's clone could have taken this opportunity to break free from the restriction, but it was suppressed by the silver light.
Bian Shaoyan left the car, and the truck door was finally able to be opened. Seeing the metal fragments on the back of the giant dog trembling and refusing to let everyone get close, Cai Chunyu thought for a moment, took a step back, and let Aliya step forward: "This truck seems to have the effect of suppressing superpowers. Let's move it out first. Dali, use your special ability, don't make direct contact."
Although this giant dog was suspected to be friendly, having just attacked Bian Shaoyan, Cai Chunyu had survived over thirty years of wandering in the mist and dealing with all sorts of monsters, all thanks to one simple principle: survival.
This giant black dog looks extremely polluting. Who knows what side effects might occur if you touch it with your bare body?
Aliya Kolenina was always a woman of few words in the group, simply following orders. Hearing Old Cai's instructions, she didn't ask why, raised her arm, aimed the submachine gun at the monster, her muscles slightly tense, but before pulling the trigger, she met a pair of clear golden eyes.
The giant dog lay on the ground, its three pairs of human arms, which extended from its waist and abdomen, pinned to its back by metal fragments. The bones were protruding, the joints were twisted, and the wounds were already rotting, revealing pale muscles. No matter how you looked at it, it was an absolute monster. If you saw it in the mist, you would pull the trigger without even blinking.
Yet this monster possessed such calm and clear eyes, gleaming like the finest citrine, even cleaner than natural crystal, without a trace of impurity.
Even though Alia was pointing a gun at him right now, her eyes stared at him for a moment, then slowly closed, her huge head hanging to one side, with a calmness that seemed to await her fate.
For once, Alia was distracted on the battlefield, drawn to those indescribable eyes. But the moment of surprise was fleeting. She pursed her lips, pulled the trigger, and seven bullets shot out in quick succession. They flew one after another along the trajectory, melting into chains before hitting the monster's fur. The bullet tip transformed into a three-pronged hook, gripping the monster's long hair.
Her muscles tensed, as if she were swinging something from a distance. With a heavy swing, the thin chain actually grabbed the monster and flung it out of the carriage.
Before the giant dog landed, a pair of clear golden eyes inexplicably appeared in Aliya's mind. She paused for a moment, and before the metal wires formed by the bullets disintegrated into countless metal points, she slightly supported the giant beast, making its landing less disheveled.
Cai Chunyu glanced at Aliya in surprise. Her pause was extremely slight, but after fighting together for more than ten years, it couldn't escape her notice, especially since Aliya was someone who never held back in battle.
"Sister Dali, your [Miracle Armament] is getting stronger and stronger."
With the help of the purple fire, Cai Chunyu and Wenren Qiu went to retrieve the metal fragments on the monster's back. While keeping watch, Shen Xijing couldn't help but speak up. Although her special ability was also good, and her role as a healer in team battles was sometimes even greater than that of the combatants, which healer didn't yearn to be an attacker?
Moreover, Aria's trait [Miracle Armament] is not just a simple offensive ability. Just like the name of her trait, she can transform weapons into any shape, combining offense and defense, and can even twist weapons into completely unrelated objects.
Aliya nodded, about to speak, when her expression suddenly turned serious. Shen Xijing also looked up instantly, her expression grave as she gazed at the battlefield in mid-air.
Bian Shaoyan lost a leg, and the wound left behind dark brown pus, which stuck him and the protector tightly together, making it impossible for Bishop D to find an opportunity.
The protector was made of some unknown material; Bishop D's attacks, when they landed on its surface, bounced off as if they were hitting ice, having no effect whatsoever.
The protector, who had been passively taking the hits, suddenly began to attack, perhaps sensing the threat Du Yu posed to Bian Shaoyan.
Its attack pattern is simple: it raises its arm and shoots a laser that can pierce through steel plates. However, it is extremely fast. Often, it is just in front of you, and before you even blink, it appears behind Bishop D in an instant.
Often, within the span of a single breath, the laser beams, radiating terrifying energy, would form a net that sealed off every area around Bishop D. Each time, she had to use her purple flames to burn through the laser net in order to barely escape.
In addition, no one knows what Bian Shaoyan's special trait is. The phantom of the scales behind him keeps swaying, and every time it sways, Bishop D suffers misfortune.
It was either a sudden sneeze, or the purple flames had clearly burned through the laser net, but somehow another one appeared out of nowhere. Although none of them caused any fatal injuries, they were exhausting to deal with after a while.
Can she win?
Shen Xijing's attention was diverted to the battlefield. Her fingers clenched tightly into her palms as a sense of powerlessness gradually overwhelmed her. They could no longer intervene in the battle there, and the feeling of placing all their hopes on others was not pleasant.
Alia glanced at her and briefly advised, "Trust your teammates."
Cai Chunyu suddenly looked up and gave her a deep look. The two stared at each other for a few seconds under Shen Xijing's bewildered gaze, as if they had reached some kind of consensus. Cai Chunyu continued to lower her head and used the purple flame to stir up the metal fragments.
Alia suddenly raised her hand, narrowed her eyes, and fired three shots in quick succession, shattering the unidentified metal block that had suddenly fallen from the sky.
Bian Shaoyan's face grew paler and paler, and the illusory image of the scales behind him became increasingly blurry. He glared fiercely at Aliya, then suddenly looked up, his expression relaxing, and finally a hint of joy appeared on his face.
Du Yu's heart skipped a beat, and he looked over with the group. His eyes, which looked even more illusory under the purple light, narrowed slightly. The commotion had been going on for several minutes. Even if this place was remote and the police department's control over the lower city was lax, the police should have come knocking on the door by now.
Sure enough, even though the electronic signal blocking period hadn't ended, several figures on vehicles quickly approached. The one in the lead had silver hair and a face full of wrinkles that exuded a cold and hard aura; everyone present recognized him.
Christina Fisher, the Sheriff, is recognized as one of the strongest superhumans in Sun City, a position with an extremely high mortality rate that she has held for fifty years.
Of course, what is more widely known than her deeds is her character.
Generally speaking, in order to prevent their special abilities from being targeted by opponents, most people with special abilities will hide the name of their special ability. Some people will not even tell the truth to their own family members.
Christina, however, was different. Her special abilities were known to almost everyone among those with superpowers, and she was the one who actively spread them.
"Under the banner of justice, all atrocities will be stopped!"
A majestic, aged voice rang out, and Cai Chunyu's movements became lighter, easily removing the last piece of metal. However, she showed no joy, abruptly looking up into the distance, her heart sinking to the bottom.
This is the effect of the [Justice] trait! Ignoring distance and disparity, as long as one is within the sight of Chief of the Security Bureau Christina, all acts of "injustice" will be restricted, and all acts of "justice" will be enhanced.
This superpower not only has an extremely wide range of effects, basically taking effect wherever Christina's eyes turn, but what's even more terrifying is that she also judges the standards of "injustice" and "justice" entirely by herself, making her an almost cheating existence in battle.
It was precisely because of this powerful ability that Christina was able to remain in the position of police chief for thirty years, despite the astronomical bounty on her head on the black market.
Within the city limits, the power of the gods is already weakened, and with Christina added to the mix, can Bishop D still handle it?
It's important to understand that these superhumans are ranked A-level because they meet the criteria for A-level; Christina's superhuman ability is ranked A-level because A-level is the highest criterion for superhuman ability.
"Tsk."
Du Yu's arm suddenly felt heavy, as if it were shackled, and the shackles seemed to be getting heavier and heavier. Zi Huo was a step too slow, allowing the protector to easily dodge the attack with Bian Shaoyan.
She shook her hand, becoming somewhat interested in Christina's traits. After being tempered by divine fire and faith, her physique was vastly different from that of ordinary people. The fact that this police chief's traits could still affect her was truly remarkable; she was indeed the only K-level transcendent being on the surface.
A random thought flashed through his mind for a moment, but now was not the time for sentimentality. Ignoring his increasingly heavy arm, Du Yu's mental energy surged, and a burst of purple flames forced back Bian Shaoyan, who was leading his protectors and trying to get closer to Cai Chunyu and her group. His voice was calm, without the slightest hint of panic:
"Open the portal as planned."
Cai Chunyu suppressed her panic. Although the police arrived much faster than expected, their mission plan naturally included how to deal with the reinforcements who came after hearing the commotion. Upon hearing this, she handed the metal fragments to Zi Huo, took out an elemental core, and began to prepare according to the ritual requirements.
Wenren Qiu seemed to remember something and hurriedly looked up. In her line of sight, she saw a black cat with jet-black fur and only four white paws. Just as she was about to speak with joy, the black cat strolled over as if it didn't see her and jumped into the car.
"Commander—"
As the phantom of the door in front of him gradually solidified, Wenren Qiu became anxious. This spatial door was a one-time use item, appearing for a very short time. If Cat Whiskers didn't come closer now, what if they missed it?
She hurried forward, but before she could ask any questions, the black cat retreated, meowing softly. Wenren Qiu instinctively took the box the black cat had struggled to drag out, and upon probing it with her spiritual power, the surprise in her eyes was impossible to conceal: "This is—"
"Captain, Sister Qiuqiu!"
Without a second thought for her surprise, Wenren Qiu, carrying the box and tucking the black cat under her arm, quickly turned and rushed in, narrowly missing the light from the portal before it disappeared.
"I'm curious, what's in that box that's making you so angry?"
Du Yu stopped Bian Shaoyan, her smile widening. Through the mental link, she naturally knew what Wenren Qiu had taken away, but that didn't stop her from saying it to annoy Bian Shaoyan. Even when Cai Chunyu pried out the Holy Grail fragments piece by piece, Bian Shaoyan's expression had never been so "interesting".
Of course, Du Yu is now able to understand him, which is rare for him, after all, those are more than fifty elemental cores!
Fallen beings are hard to find, and even with Quark Pharmaceuticals backing him and his vast wealth, the fifty-odd elemental cores would still cost him a fortune.
"you!"
Bian Shaoyan knew perfectly well that she was asking a question she already knew the answer to, and spoke with a hateful tone, knowing that insults would only make the enemy laugh at him. He gritted his teeth and changed the subject: "Director Fisher, what are you hesitating about? Quark's annual tax payments are not meant to support you bystanders!"
Normally, even if he felt contempt, he wouldn't show it in front of Christina, who was, after all, the head of the police department and had some power. But at this moment, he didn't care about anything else.
If this plan fails, there will be another one. No one can stop the implementation of the Sun Chasing Plan. The lost Holy Grail fragments can always be found. But that box of elemental cores is different. I applied for it from the board of directors myself!
If we find the Holy Grail fragments this time, that would be fine. But if we find nothing and suffer such a huge loss, those old fogies on the board of directors won't let us off the hook!
With his own life hanging in the balance, Bian Shaoyan had no time to consider whether he would offend Christina.
Christina jumped out of the car with a litheness that belied her age. Her eagle-like black eyes scanned the surroundings, and within seconds, based on her extensive experience stationed in the lower city, she determined what was happening before her—a brawl between superhumans, a common sight in the lower city.
However, the scale of this brawl was a bit too large. Without needing a trace analyst, she could tell at a glance that there were at least five A-level ability users at the scene. This was already a major case, not to mention...
His gaze swept over the giant beast that had risen from the ground, its golden eyes fixed on her, blocking her path as she halted the audacious attackers. The usually composed police chief frowned, his eyes hardening with rage, like the final thunderclap before a storm.
"Mr. Bian, could you please explain why the Security Department did not receive a single report when a sealed artifact with a danger level of '00' left the sealing field and entered the lower city?"
The Security Bureau, in collaboration with the council, assigns numbers to all existing sealed objects based on their level of danger. The earlier the number, the higher the danger. Sealed objects starting with "00" can cause the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people if not handled carefully. Not to mention that this behemoth is a child of sealed object number "001"!
According to regulations, for a sealed artifact of this level, let alone taking it out of the city, even breaking through a layer of the barrier requires reporting to the Public Security Bureau and to her, the Director of the Public Security Bureau!
However, she still received a tip from a concerned citizen, and upon arriving at the scene, she discovered that someone had actually brought such a high-level sealed artifact into the city. These tycoons are really getting more and more...
Bian Shaoyan paused, his gaze flickering for a moment: "It concerns the 'Sun Chasing Project.' The council has already approved it, and 001 is different from the other sealed artifacts..."
"No matter how different they are, he's still 001. Since you all teamed up to assign him 001, you have to abide by the rules!"
The elderly man interrupted him. Behind him, a group of men dressed as sheriffs, their uniforms slightly disheveled and their faces full of guilt, arrived late. When they saw the situation and then suddenly saw Bian Shaoyan's face, their guilt intensified. One of them, who had poor mental fortitude, even started to tremble with fear.
Vincent Gary, the division chief of the downtown sheriff's office, had never been more grateful to Christina Fisher for her meddling!
Vincent Gary, as usual, ignored the complaint he received today from a member of the public that the fighting in the west of the city was disturbing her afternoon nap, and scolded her for meddling. However, by some strange twist of fate, Christina, who was patrolling the lower city, overheard the complaint. She immediately punished him for "dereliction of duty" and came to the scene herself.
Upon arriving at the scene, Vincent Gary, who had initially thought it was just an ordinary brawl, nearly knelt down upon seeing the sight before him. Putting aside the excessive residual energy at the scene, Bian Shaoyan's face and missing left leg alone almost made this branch chief, who knew the map of the city's bigwigs by heart, faint.
At this moment, he had no resentment or anger left in his heart. He was about to rush forward with a sense of luck when Christina raised her hand to stop him. Her brows were slightly furrowed, and the wrinkles on her face were deep: "Contain 001's clone first!"
"Christina Fisher!"
The protector is not a real person after all. Even with a top-notch combat code, he is still no match for Du Yu, who has fought his way through countless bloody battles.
Although the Guardian's materials were special and the purple flames couldn't break through its defenses, Bian Shaoyan was still just a mortal! This evil god's familiar appeared out of nowhere, and its combat awareness was terrifyingly high. It had already figured out the Guardian's attack patterns, and the purple flames had almost burned him several times, making Bian Shaoyan's face turn green.
In this situation, the reinforcements that were finally waiting for were instead used to deal with the 001 clone that had been cut into an idiot and wouldn't run away.
Enraged, he began to threaten without thinking: "Don't forget, the next election is just around the corner, and Quark alone accounts for almost a third of the Security Bureau's funding!"
"Even if Quark controls all of the Security Bureau's funding, the lives of 100,000 people in the Lower City are more important than your life, President Quark!"
"You know perfectly well that 001 won't..."
"When a Class 00 sealed artifact escapes control, it is considered a 'maximum alert state,' and the Public Security Bureau has the authority to take emergency action without explanation or authorization from anyone—what are you waiting for? Take action!"
Christina abruptly interrupted Bian Shaoyan, turned to Vincent Gary and his men, and ordered them, seemingly unconcerned about Bian Shaoyan's life or death.
Bian Shaoyan was furious and bit his tongue to calm down. Suddenly, he had a flash of inspiration and understood Christina Fisher's intention—she hadn't given up on changing the number 001!
He gritted his teeth, his voice trembling slightly as he suppressed his anger. "Fine, excellent! Now it's not just these rats in the lower city; even Christina, this 'good old lady,' has learned to take advantage of the chaos."
"No one understands the dangers of 001 better than you! I will sign your proposal to change the numbering sequence of 001 in Parliament this year on behalf of Quark!"
Anyway, it's not a big deal. The group of people in the Upper City who hate 001 the most are all old now. Keeping this number is just to annoy Christina, who always causes them trouble, and incidentally, to make it easier for them to do some experiments with 001.
Christina gave the young president of Quark a deep look, then turned and ordered several sheriffs to keep an eye on 001, squinting at the frenzied purple figure in mid-air.
She wasn't worried about Bian Shaoyan going back on his word; in fact, it would be better for her if he did. When you possess a trait called "Justice" and have the power to punish any "unjust" act, everyone will become trustworthy in your presence.
This matter is not urgent. The old sheriff, who had extensive experience in outwitting and fighting against the evil god Jiao Tu, frowned. For a moment, he could not recognize which being's familiar this figure with the obvious aura of an evil god belonged to.
Is it an old friend who has changed their appearance? Or... has a new evil god been born in the mist?
Neither of these is good news. If it's the latter, it's even worse. A newly born evil god has developed to this extent in secret before being discovered. The Lower City Police Department really needs to be reformed...
A deep gloom, like a persistent dark cloud, shrouded the old sheriff's heart, yet it showed no trace on her aged and stern face. Her narrowed dark eyes reflected the purple figure as she calmly extended her hand: "Those who desecrate justice will be punished!"
The sound reverberated in the air, like boulders falling to the ground with a resounding thud. Brown ripples spread instantly, as if some majestic being in the darkness was watching over this place, and an invisible code of law was turning over, ready to judge all the evils here.
Du Yu's already heavy arms became even heavier, almost to the point of being unable to lift them. Even though this avatar did not need to breathe, she still felt waves of suffocation constantly rising in her heart. She knew this was the punishment for being judged as "unjust" by Christina, but even in such a wretched state, Du Yu looked around and actually laughed.
It's not that she has a low threshold for laughter, but rather that Christina's superpowers are just too funny.
As soon as she spoke, the only ones unaffected on the field were herself, the one who released the skill, and the guardian who was not human and not bound by human morality. Everyone else was punished to varying degrees by the [Justice] trait.
Bian Shaoyan suddenly groaned, and his severed left leg suddenly grew back. An invisible guillotine fell and chopped off the newly grown, still pale pink leg, spraying blood all over the back of the protector.
The sheriffs were also punished to varying degrees. One of them, who seemed to be the highest-ranking officer, was in the most serious condition. His face turned red, and as if he had suddenly fallen ill, he slapped himself repeatedly with both hands. The swollen cheeks and the blood overflowing from the corners of his mouth were enough to prove that he had not held back at all.
"Hey, Chief, it seems your people aren't exactly righteous either."
Du Yu watched as the group hurriedly stopped their superior from self-harming and couldn't help but sneer. This bunch of idiots, plus a stupid and wicked Bian Shaoyan, are they supposed to uphold justice?
“All injustice will be punished by law, not by violence.”
Christina glanced at the disheveled group and frowned in disappointment, but her released power remained unwavering. She looked at the purple figure who still refused to stop, her mental energy surging as she prepared to unleash another punishment. But then she noticed that the "D" symbol on that strange face, which served as a smile, seemed to have widened its arc even further.
"Oh, it seems the chief is a champion of procedural justice. I'm different—"
The purple flames seemed to have been doused with a rain of oil called "anger," bursting into flames and illuminating almost half the sky. It was as if, before the sun had even set, a layer of fading sunset clouds had already shrouded the sky.
Everyone present felt a chill run down their spines, as if they were being stared at from behind by some ferocious beast. Bian Shaoyan's heart skipped a beat as he saw the purple flames, which had expanded to their limit, suddenly compress, turning into a long sword that cleaved the sky, and slashing fiercely at himself behind the protector!
This attack seemed to trigger the protector's defensive mechanism. Although theoretically no attack could possibly harm it, it still teleported to another location with Bian Shaoyan, avoiding this sharp and powerful attack.
"Unfortunately, I'm a realist. If this reality isn't what I want, I won't care about any rules or regulations and will force it into what I believe is right!"
The curve of the letter "D" on the strange figure's face became increasingly rounded, like a malicious mockery. Bian Shaoyan's heart suddenly skipped a beat, and his brain felt as if it were being pricked by needles. As an ability user with the [Fate] element, Bian Shaoyan was no stranger to this premonition. This was a death warning being conveyed to him by his ability!
Without considering how the evil god's follower would kill him under the dual protection of the protector and Christina, Bian Shaoyan, in the shadow of death, shouted without any decorum, ordering the protector: "No, take me away from here—"
"It's too late."
The protector obeyed Bian Shaoyan's command. The moment his figure flashed in mid-air, Bian Shaoyan breathed a sigh of relief, when a chill suddenly wrapped around his neck. The force was as gentle as a teardrop, but it was the coldest temperature Bian Shaoyan had ever felt in his life.
He opened his eyes wide amidst the growing dizziness, struggling to find the enemy's direction in his spun vision, and finally saw clearly in his increasing confusion—what had silently severed his head.
A long sword that looks ordinary.
We've been tricked.
He thought.
This was the first time Bian Shaoyan had so clearly felt the incredible vitality of a superhuman; at this moment, he was even able to subconsciously think—
It turned out that the impressive attack was just a feint; the real killing intent lay in that seemingly ordinary longsword.
The protector seemed to have encountered some incomprehensible bug, freezing in place, its humanoid eyes flashing wildly with silver light. Even the tough old sheriff's eyes showed a rare look of confusion and bewilderment, wondering why the superpower that could even restrain an evil god had suddenly failed.
His gaze rose higher and higher, and everything around him grew smaller and more blurred, yet he refused to fall asleep, his mind filled with intense confusion.
Why, why...
"Oh, it's just spirit world travel, I'm good at that."
The purple flames surrounding the figure thinned, clearly indicating that the attack had taken a toll on her. Holding her knife in one hand and resting the other beneath her brow, she curiously examined Bian Shaoyan's head as it flew further and further away. Without a care in the world, she casually and nonchalantly explained the principle behind the guardian spirits created by the top-tier organization in the Upper City District—
"I wonder what this iron lump is made of. Not only can it reflect attacks back to the spirit world, but it can also travel quickly through the spirit world without a spirit body."
"No."
The figure patted the increasingly chaotic protectors with the back of his sword, his voice filled with pleasure, as if he had solved an age-old puzzle:
"Although I don't know how it was done, it was precisely because it was a spiritless body that it was able to be kicked out as soon as it entered the spirit world, thus allowing it to quickly travel through the spirit world without leaving a trace."
Although the spirit world and the material world are not in a one-to-one correspondence, there must be some kind of connection between them. Although Du Yu cannot do it now, it is theoretically possible to achieve rapid travel in reality through the spirit world.
However, the spirit will definitely fluctuate in this way. The reason why Du Yu has only been able to figure out the guardian's movement pattern now is entirely because, in theory, it is impossible for it to travel between spirit realms!
How can an android without a spirit enter the spirit world?
But those research fanatics at Sacred Heart Hospital managed to do it. They forcibly allowed the guardian to enter the spirit world. Although he was kicked out after only a moment, it was precisely in that moment that the guardian completed the journey through the spirit world. Because the journey was so short, he left almost no trace in the spirit world.
If Du Yu hadn't been more sensitive to fluctuations in the spirit world than ordinary people, and if the later protectors hadn't traversed the spirit world for so long that Du Yu had noticed a slight ripple, Bian Shaoyan would probably have really escaped today.
How can that be? So many people were mobilized, and so much preparation was done, and it all failed? Doesn't she, a dignified evil god, have any dignity?
"you……"
Christina stared at the scene before her, and the usually serious and composed old sheriff was unusually speechless.
"You want to ask me why I'm unaffected by your superpowers?"
In the original owner's memory, this police chief was one of the few people who actually got things done. Du Yu treated her a little better, but only to a limited extent. After all, if it weren't for her obstruction, she wouldn't have had to sacrifice such an avatar to kill Bian Shaoyan.
"Are you willing to tell me?"
Christina took a deep breath, and despite knowing that the person in front of her was not made of flesh and blood, she still drew her pistol and pointed it at the gradually blurring figure.
"you guess?"
Du Yu deliberately provoked him. Seeing that the other party did not seem to be angered, he shrugged. Since he had already achieved his goal of delaying time, he squeezed a black dog out of thin air and stuffed it into his arms. He then fell backward and landed in a door that appeared out of thin air.
The portal flickered a few times before rapidly shrinking, and the frenzied figure vanished, leaving behind a mess and only a final, defiant statement:
"As long as I have no morals, I won't be kidnapped. Goodbye, Madam Justice!"
"Chief, shouldn't we stop them..."
Vincent Gary spoke tremulously, on the verge of tears. Bian Shaoyan had been killed in front of him. Putting aside what would happen to Christina, would he really see the sun rise tomorrow?
"That door leads into the mist; it's just a phantom, and leaving it behind is pointless."
The respectable old sheriff lowered her gun, looked at the chaotic scene, and saw her subordinates reporting that Sub-001 had disappeared. She seemed unsurprised and sighed silently: "Notify the Quark people to collect Bian Shaoyan's body. Vincent, go... find his head."
——
"Oh dear, you're so useless."
A stray dog found a fine toy, but was kicked roughly. Terrified, the dog tucked its tail between its legs and ran away, leaving behind the head of a man with a terrified expression.
A hand reached out out of thin air, rolled and examined it a few times with a look of disgust, "Even the favor of [Fate] is useless... Heh, someone who is not affected by [Fate] has finally appeared."
The hand tossed the head back and forth, seemingly calculating something, before finally picking it up with a look of disdain.
"Well, it's barely of any use."

Author's Note: I've been writing this chapter for several days. I originally planned to post it as it came to me, but I got annoyed that Bian Shaoyan was still alive, so I decided to wait until he went offline and post it all at once. This event is finally finished. There's only one last major event left in this volume!
——
Hehe, I've received several beautiful illustrations from Dudu these past few days. Once they're approved, everyone will be able to see them! To be honest, based on the data in this post, I never expected to break even when commissioning illustrations; it's purely an explosion of my commissioning enthusiasm. Just enjoy them! If you like them, please consider contributing within your means. [kissing emoji]
