Chapter 2: The Rival - Holding Wrists
The weekend went by quickly.
Xie Changyu stayed up all night playing games again last night. When he woke up, his eyes were dark and his face was very haggard, as if he had been drained of his life force by a ghost.
And with his fair complexion, it was even more obvious.
"ah--"
Xie Changyu yawned lazily, her hair a mess like a bird's nest. As she sat up, she casually turned off the incessantly ringing alarm clock, then got up to wash up.
As he passed by the other beds, he glanced at them casually. His two roommates hadn't returned yet; they probably didn't have class today.
He pursed his lips, somewhat envious... He was so sleepy; he almost fainted when he first got up.
Brushing teeth, washing face...
Xie Changyu scooped up water with his hands and splashed it on his face, rubbing it carefully a few times before shaking off the excess water and wiping it clean with a towel.
After the water splashed on his face, he became a little more sober.
Suddenly, Xie Changyu felt footsteps approaching from behind. He could even feel the warmth, which made him instinctively dodge to the side.
It is Qi Yan.
He also got up and came in to wash up.
Their student bathroom was spacious enough to comfortably accommodate four boys standing inside. Xie Changyu put the towel down and looked at the person next to him.
Qi Yan was very handsome. His shirt sleeves were rolled up, revealing faint muscle lines under his well-fitting casual shirt. His face was rosy from just waking up, and he looked very healthy.
It's true what they say, comparisons are the thief of joy.
Xie Changyu stared at his arms, which had no muscle definition, and then looked at the other person's well-trained body with envy in his eyes.
This is something a shut-in like him could never do.
His gaze was very obvious, and Qi Yan naturally noticed it. He smiled and looked at him with a carefree expression. "Envious? I'm going to the gym later, want to come along?"
This is an invitation to him, which is rather unusual.
However, Xie Changyu quickly refused, shaking his head with a somewhat listless expression, "No, I'm not really suited for sports."
Asking a homebody like him to do any kind of exercise, like a 1,000-meter long-distance run, would be too much for him, let alone building muscle.
Actually, he was a little surprised. Qi Nian didn't live in the dormitory for long before. He interacted more with the other two people and didn't know much about his personality. He had heard from others that he had a terrible personality and liked to argue with people, but now he seemed to have a very good temper and even invited him to exercise together.
Could it be that everything before was just a rumor?
Qi Nian didn't say anything after being rejected, and his good mood made Xie Changyu take another look at him.
"Let's go have breakfast together later. We have the same class, so how about we go together as roommates?"
"One class?" Xie Changyu's eyes widened in surprise. He had no idea that his roommate had chosen the same easy class as him, and he had never seen him in class before.
"You might not have noticed," Qi Nian said, looking at him casually. "But I've seen you several times."
"Yes, really?" Xie Changyu was a little embarrassed. He had indeed been slacking off in this water class, and he didn't even remember the teacher, let alone his classmates.
"Okay then." He agreed, after all, they were roommates, so it wouldn't be a problem to attend classes together.
In addition, it had only been two months since the start of the semester, and he would stay in his dorm room whenever he didn't have classes. He had almost no friends and his only contact with his roommates was with a few others.
I'm a little excited.
"I'm going out now, you should hurry up and wash up."
Seeing Qi Yan nod, Xie Changyu left the bathroom, walked to his chair, and changed his shoes.
Because the class was supposed to be easy, he planned to bring only one book and a pen to the classroom, which he probably wouldn't need in the end.
He pushed open the balcony door, and the light from outside instantly flooded in, illuminating the entire dormitory room.
It's no longer raining. The sky, which was overcast yesterday, is now blue with white clouds. The sun is shining brightly in the sky, and wisps of heat are drifting over.
Xie Changyu touched his wrist, which had been suddenly scalded, and thought it was a bit outrageous, "The weather has changed too fast."
It was raining so hard yesterday, but today the sun is shining brightly.
It's really unpredictable.
It's already November, but there's no sign of it getting cold. It just rains a little, but it's still very hot.
After closing the door again, Xie Changyu decided to change into long pants to avoid getting sunburned.
There were people in the bathroom, and climbing into bed seemed too much trouble. He figured that since they were all guys, there was nothing to be ashamed of, so he decided to just find a pair of pants and change.
Xie Changyu found a pair of black pants, then took off the denim shorts that were below the knee and picked up the long pants to change into.
"I'm done, let's go..." Qi Yan saw this scene as soon as he came out, and he paused for a moment, his eyes darting around, "...You're changing your pants."
Xie Changyu quickly changed, glanced at him, and felt that his reaction was a bit strange. Afraid of being misunderstood, she quickly explained, "The sun is too strong outside, so I changed into long pants to avoid getting a tan."
"I see."
Qi Yan straightened his expression, a rare hint of embarrassment appearing on his handsome face, though he didn't know what he was embarrassed about, his mind still preoccupied with the fleeting scene before him.
His Adam's apple bobbed involuntarily a few times.
"Okay, I'm all changed. Let's go."
"good."
With little time left before class, the two quickly ate breakfast in the cafeteria and headed towards the classroom.
Along the way, there were students rushing to class. Xie Changyu stood out from the crowd, holding an umbrella. He looked at the boys whose eyes were almost closed by the sun and thought they were just pretending. They were so concerned about saving face that they didn't even use an umbrella.
Qi Yan and he squeezed under one umbrella. This man was so strong that his muscles almost pushed him out. Xie Changyu could even feel the bulging pectoral muscles pressed tightly against his hand holding the umbrella.
Fortunately, he was tall enough that he wasn't completely outshone.
Xie Changyu secretly breathed a sigh of relief, thanking his parents for giving him such a good height.
The heat returned, beads of sweat trickled down his forehead, and stray hairs clung to his scalp, making him look somewhat disheveled.
Looking at Qi Yan next to him, his breathing was normal, and there wasn't a drop of sweat on his face, making him appear even weaker.
Are you tired? Do you want me to hold the umbrella for you?
The warm breath on his ear was Qi Yan asking him a question.
Xie Changyu shook his head, gritting his teeth and refusing: "No need, I'm not tired yet."
He was actually exhausted, but it would be too embarrassing to admit to other men that he didn't have that much energy.
He usually rides an electric scooter to class, but he forgot to charge it yesterday, so he has to walk to class today.
The distance from the cafeteria to the teaching building is quite long, and they were in a hurry, so they walked quite fast. Considering how much of a homebody he usually is, it's quite impressive that he's been able to keep going this far.
"Hehehe—"
Xie Changyu was panting heavily, lying on the back of the classroom desk, his face flushed red.
Qi Yan propped her chin on her hand and looked at him, seriously suggesting, "Are you really not going to the gym to work out? Your stamina is too weak."
"Did you play games all night yesterday? You didn't look too good this morning."
Xie Changyu didn't want to talk at all, and when he was exposed, he silently lay down on the table and shut himself up.
The teacher on the podium had already started lecturing with the PowerPoint presentation. The entire classroom quieted down, and Xie Changyu buried his face in the desk, feeling the cool breeze, and began to space out.
Qi Yan licked his lips and said nothing more.
Time slowly ticked to twelve o'clock, the teacher put away the books, and the classroom began to get noisy—finally, get out of class was over.
Xie Changyu rubbed his eyes, thinking that he had almost fallen asleep.
"Let's go, it's lunchtime."
He was pulled up by Qi Yan, his wrist was encircled, and he was pulled along for a distance in a daze.
When Xie Changyu finally realized what was happening, he almost jumped up.
He quickly withdrew his hand, only to see Qi Yan looking at him with a puzzled expression. "What's wrong?"
Xie Changyu looked annoyed, his face scrunched up. "Let's not be so awkward, two grown men like us. Don't you find it strange?"
"Really?" Qi Yan raised an eyebrow, her eyes looking strange, then smiled at him. "We're friends. What's wrong with friends pulling each other along? What's so strange about that?"
"Friends?" Xie Changyu's attention was diverted. He hadn't had any friends since starting university, and Qi Yan actually admitted that he was his friend.
“I thought we started out as friends.” Qi Yan approached him step by step and grabbed his wrist again. “Besides, we didn’t hold hands, we just touched here.”
Xie Changyu looked conflicted, her lips slightly parted, thinking that what he said wasn't wrong, and compromised: "Okay, fine, you're right."
Moreover, this guy seems pretty good so far, unlike the other two roommates who are so weird. It's nice to have a friend after all this time in college.
However, Xie Changyu felt a little awkward looking at the position. He turned his hand, knocked the hand off his wrist, and re-clasped it. "This is still more comfortable."
It turned into him pulling Qi Yan's wrist.
"Let's go," Xie Changyu urged, seeing that the person was standing there in a daze.
With the backing of a friend, he's now a bit bolder with people.
Qi Yan slowly raised his head, blinked lightly, and smiled freely, "Okay."
--but.
"Do you need me to carry you later?"
Xie Changyu felt looked down upon, and he angrily tugged at his hand, "No need! But it'll be your turn to hold the umbrella later!"
He still timidly compromised a little.
They had no classes in the afternoon, and since they hadn't had much time for breakfast, they decided to go back to their dormitories to rest for a while instead of going to the cafeteria.
As soon as Xie Changyu put down her access card, a blast of cold air hit her, startling her. She thought she had forgotten to turn off the air conditioner, but when she entered the room, she saw that someone was already there.
The first thing that caught my eye was a pale, cold-skinned face. The man's eyelids were slightly lowered, his nose was high and straight, his thin lips were slightly pursed, and his expression was indifferent.
His roommate, Jiang Yue.
Xie Changyu breathed a sigh of relief; at least he hadn't forgotten to close the door.
As for Jiang Yue, he ignored him completely, put the book away, took off his shoes, and got into bed.
Qi Yan raised an eyebrow at the scene but didn't say anything. However, unlike Xie Changyu, he didn't ignore it but went up to greet him, "You don't have class today?"
Jiang Yue lowered his eyes, his expression indifferent, and said, "Hmm."
He seemed unwilling to say much.
Seeing this, Qi Yan didn't react much. He and Jiang Yue had known each other since childhood and he was used to his childhood friend's deadpan attitude, so he didn't care.
Xie Changyu, lying on the bed, secretly made a face, looking strange and sarcastic.
Pack.
