Chapter 13 The Troublemaker

After dinner that day, He Zifeng was fixing things in the yard. Everything left at home was in a bad state. Buying new things would cost money, so he repaired everything that could be fixed.

He Zifeng kept busy until the light outside became dim before he stopped. He washed his hands briefly, went back inside, and saw that little He Ran had gone to sleep in his crib. His son really cherished these two little rabbits. He placed the cage not far from him and lined it with a lot of dry hay.

When He Zifeng returned to the room, Qiu Yu had already made up the bed. He Zifeng whispered, "Why isn't Ranran sleeping with us?"

Qiu Yu smiled slightly and said, "He wants to go up the mountain with his friends early tomorrow morning to pick tender grass to feed the rabbits."

"Oh." He Zifeng extinguished the oil lamp in the house, turned over and got into bed. He wanted to casually talk to Qiu Yu about what happened during the day. Just as he was about to speak, he suddenly felt Qiu Yu leaning against him. In the dead of night without light, his senses were even clearer. Qiu Yu wasn't wearing any clothes and had secretly kissed his chin in the darkness.

He Zifeng, a vigorous young man, couldn't control himself once teased. He wrapped his arms around Qiu Yu and kissed him precisely even in the darkness.

In the afternoon, He Zifeng watched Qiu Yu coaxing their son by talking to him. Now that their son was living in a small bed, what didn't he understand? As a man, he couldn't let his wife down!

He Zifeng was in excellent physical condition and was naturally exceptionally brave.

The next morning, Xiao Heran woke up to find his little daddy still lazing in bed. He wanted to snuggle up to him, but He Zifeng carried him out of the house, saying, "Here, Daddy made some millet porridge. Have some, and then we'll go gather herbs. Don't go too far, it's just at the foot of the mountain!"

"Hmm." Little He Ran's attention was completely drawn to his father's words. The millet porridge tasted sweet, and Little He Ran finished it all before running out to play with the other children.

He Zifeng brought the millet porridge and eggs into the house and placed them on the table. Qiu Yu had already woken up, but was probably still pretending to be asleep out of embarrassment.

Pretending to be asleep is very different from actually being asleep.

He Zifeng walked over, lowered his head, and kissed Qiu Yu's lips, feeling the warmth rise on her face. He Zifeng said, "I'm going to buy land from Sixth Uncle." He left after saying that.

...

He Zifeng went to Liu Zi to buy land, and the news spread like wildfire throughout the village.

Inside the He family's old house, Xiao Wan heard this and smashed a teacup, saying, "That's my money!" Just thinking about it made her heart ache.

He Donglai said, "You spendthrift! That land has been abandoned for more than three years, and the weeds are taller than the grain."

The fourth brother, He Fan, stayed at his relatives' house for a few days. But his eldest brother kept urging him to come back, so he had no choice but to return. Little did he know that he would regret it as soon as he returned. Wan Hai had actually become a hands-off manager and moved to his father-in-law's house. He was the youngest in the family, so the washing, cooking, and taking care of his third brother were all handed over to him!

Fortunately, his third brother's foot has healed and he's no longer so cramped.

Upon hearing his parents scolding his second brother, He Fan said, "That's his money; he can spend it however he wants." In the countryside, how can you not have land? Grain prices are unstable, and in years of famine, even money can't buy grain. Land is the foundation of a farmer's livelihood. If he were his second brother, he would buy land too.

"Pah! That money came from my hands, but it was temporarily kept with him. Who gave him permission to spend it?" Xiao Wan said. This eldest son is useless; he ran off to live with his father-in-law. She wanted to set He Zifeng's house on fire, force him to come home, and then get the money back. Who would have thought that He Zifeng would be so vicious as to spend the money without even saying a word to her?

He Fan had already had enough after only two days at home.

As soon as I open my eyes in the morning, I'm met with a constant stream of curses from my family.

He Fan was somewhat speechless. This house, though not warm, was still a place to stay before. Now, however, his head was buzzing with anxiety. In his opinion, it was completely unnecessary. The He family owned ten acres of land and a soy sauce workshop, generating an annual income of ten to twenty taels of silver. Even if He Zifeng took ten taels, it wouldn't affect the overall situation.

Little did he know that his scumbag father, He Donglai, had no intention of leaving anything for He Zifeng; the ten taels of silver were like a death sentence to him.

Leaving aside the years of oppression he had inflicted on He Zifeng, all that remained was the memory of He Zifeng's betrayal this time. He Donglai was so angry he couldn't sleep that night, and subsequently went to the next village to find his younger sister!

He bought a jar of wine, three catties of meat, and five catties of fine white flour. The gifts he brought cost over a hundred coins, which was considered a generous gift for a typical visit between relatives.

The reason her scumbag father chose this younger sister was because Aunt He, like him, had a fiery temper and couldn't tolerate any injustice. Before she got married, she was as fiery as a little chili pepper, but after marrying a spineless man, she became the head of the household. Her family had extremely strict rules; if she glared at them, neither of her daughters-in-law dared to sit at the table. This one woman, upon hearing that her brother had bullied her, put on her shoes and came out with He Donglai, saying, "You're a traitor! Let's see how I deal with him!"

He Donglai cursed all the way from the moment they entered the village.

The villagers frowned when they saw it.

"Has He Donglai gone mad? The town mayor divided the property, and the village elders witnessed it. What is he trying to do?"

"The He family has invited all the married ladies back. This is going to cause a big fuss. Quick, go find Village Chief Liu."

"Oh my god, what kind of auntie is she? She's just a troublemaker. He Zifeng is unlucky too."

"Let's go take a look." Several people washing clothes by the river quickly wrung out their clothes and put them in their baskets. They got up together and headed over there.

He Zifeng had just bought the land deed when he saw Qiu Yu already up but ignoring him. He knew she must have been out partying yesterday. He tried to coax her and beg, but before he could even exchange a few heartfelt words, he heard Gouzi tip him off. After He Zifeng took Gouzi to the woods to pick fruit once, the little guy had become a huge fan of He Zifeng. Being a fast child, he had managed to get there before Aunt He arrived to tell her the news.

He Zifeng gave him a coin to buy maltose and asked him to invite Aunt Li from the village over. He told Qiu Yu not to leave the house and that he would handle it.

Aunt He, accompanied by the others, angrily cursed, "You little bastard, you've gone too far! You dare to sue your father? Today you must kowtow to your father and admit your mistake. And that Qiu Yu... ah..." She hadn't finished cursing.

Someone splashed a bucket of well water on me.

Instantly, Aunt He was stunned by the cool well water, with a wild vegetable leaf still stuck to her head.

Someone in the crowd was laughing very loudly.
