Chapter 35 Fainting

Chapter 35 Fainting

Everyone said they didn't want to work, but in the end they all went to the fields.

"Thanks to the little fan you bought," Su Tangtang said as soon as they arrived at the field, turning on the small fan hanging around her neck. The cool breeze dissipated some of the heat.

Huo Yizhou said, "The only problem is the battery life."

Su Tangtang chimed in, "It's alright, I can play for two hours."

She paused, then added with a smile, "Right now, it's cool above my neck, but I'm sweating non-stop below my neck."

Huo Yizhou, who was also wearing the same small fan, nodded and said, "Me too."

Su Tangtang's eyes lit up, and she suddenly laughed, "Then let's buy two more? That way we can blow for four hours straight."

Huo Yizhou responded, "Okay, I understand."

Su Tangtang paused, then suddenly walked towards Huo Yizhou, gently parted the cotton stems, tilted her head to look at him, her eyes filled with a smile, "So, Brother Zhou, what do you know?"

She gradually discovered that Huo Yizhou was a meticulous and reliable person. A few days ago, she said she was hot, so he quietly bought a small fan. She said she wanted to eat watermelon, and the next day, the refrigerator was filled with watermelon that he had bought on his morning run.

He seemed to have quietly taken to heart all the things she said unintentionally.

But he is also a man of his word, a man of principle.

If you treat him well, he'll treat you well in return; if you offend him even slightly, he'll remember it clearly. It's like some kind of creature that follows the principle of equivalent exchange.

After figuring out his temperament, Su Tangtang found it easier to get along with him, and sometimes she would even joke with him.

“Buy two more,” Huo Yizhou said, looking at her.

She was really beautiful, with fair skin and bright, smiling eyes that made his heart skip a beat.

Su Tangtang didn't reply, but just smiled with her lips pursed.

Huo Yizhou looked away and asked in a low voice, "What are you grinning about?"

"I think you're a really nice person," she said, her voice still tinged with laughter.

Huo Yizhou gave a soft "hmm" and replied in a serious tone, "Thank you for such a high compliment."

"You're welcome," Su Tangtang smiled even more broadly.

The two chatted back and forth, their laughter echoing through the summer cotton fields.

They kept working, but they didn't seem to feel that tired anymore.

-

Shen Yingying felt that it was unusually hot today, so hot that she felt dizzy.

She looked at Gu Qingke beside her with a hint of weakness, her voice faint, "I'm a little thirsty..."

Gu Qingke turned around upon hearing the sound and saw that her face was covered in sweat and she looked somewhat pale. She immediately said, "Wait for me, I'll go get some water."

The water is placed at the edge of the field, and it takes two or three minutes to go back and forth.

Shen Yingying nodded, watching him run quickly towards the edge of the field. But just then, a strong wave of dizziness suddenly struck her. Her vision went black, her body swayed, and the next second she collapsed to the ground.

The photographer, startled, rushed forward, but it was too late; he couldn't catch her.

The photographer, forgetting all about taking pictures, shouted at Gu Qingke, "Teacher Gu! Teacher Shen has fainted!"

Hearing the shout, Gu Qingke turned around sharply, immediately rushed back, ran to her side, picked her up in his arms, and quickly walked towards the outside.

He was so anxious that large beads of sweat dripped down his face, some of them landing on the face of the person in his arms. He whispered, "Yingying, wake up!" But no matter how he called, she didn't respond.

He looked up and asked the photographer, "Did you call 120?"

"They've already fought!"

Just then, Su Tangtang and Huo Yizhou returned to the edge of the field and noticed the commotion. Su Tangtang tugged at Huo Yizhou, "Let's go take a look."

Huo Yizhou nodded, and the two quickly walked towards where Gu Qingke was.

In just two minutes, they arrived.

Su Tangtang asked, "What happened?"

Gu Qingke looked up, her voice urgent, "She fainted."

After saying that, he was about to feed Shen Yingying water.

Su Tangtang frowned slightly and spoke up to stop them, "Don't give them water yet!"

Gu Qingke glared at her unhappily, "Why aren't you feeding her? Su Tangtang, this is a matter of life and death, so put away your vicious thoughts."

Su Tangtang was taken aback by the shout.

At this moment, Huo Yizhou stepped forward, his voice calm, "Gu Qingke, it's your lack of common sense that's why you're yelling at her?"

Gu Qingke was speechless for a moment.

Su Tangtang didn't explain further and quickly said, "Put her in the shade first. Do you want her condition to worsen in the sun?"

Gu Qingke hesitated for a moment, but did as she was told, gently moving the person to the shade of the tree.

Su Tangtang then instructed, "Loosen her collar a bit to help with heat dissipation." Gu Qingke followed her instructions and tidied her clothes.

"Wipe her armpits and groin with water again; that will cool her down faster," Gu Qingke continued, doing as she was told.

"That will ease the pain a bit. Let's wait for the ambulance," Su Tangtang said, then quietly stepped aside.

When they found out about what happened to them, Zhou Yan and the others arrived shortly afterward.

"It's too hot today, so please don't push yourselves if you're not feeling well," Qu Xian said.

Everyone nodded.

The ambulance arrived quickly and soon lifted Shen Yingying onto a stretcher and into the ambulance, with Gu Qingke following behind.

Meng Meng said, "I'll go too."

The nurse in the ambulance said, "Then you go over there yourself, there's not enough room in the ambulance."

The car door then closed, and the ambulance driver sped away.

Meng Meng ultimately did not go with them.

After Shen Yingying suddenly fainted, everyone lost their will to continue working. The weather was too hot, and no one dared to push themselves any further.

The group returned to their lodgings to rest early. It wasn't until evening that Gu Qingke brought Shen Yingying back from the hospital.

Everyone immediately surrounded them, asking with concern, "How are you? Are you alright?"

Shen Yingying's face was still a little pale, and she replied softly, "I've had an IV drip, I'm much better now."

Everyone was relieved.

She turned to look at Su Tangtang and said sincerely, "Thank you so much for today."

Gu Qingke had already told her what had happened. At first, she couldn't believe it. Why would Su Tangtang help her with such a good opportunity? If something really happened to her, wouldn't Gu Qingke be...?

But the truth is, Su Tangtang did help her.

Su Tangtang waved her hand and smiled easily, "You're welcome, it's good that you're alright."

Gu Qingke stood aside, feeling a pang of guilt as he recalled the words he had shouted at her in a fit of rage. The doctor later told him seriously that it was fortunate that he hadn't given Shen Yingying water while she was unconscious and had taken timely physical measures to lower her temperature; otherwise, the consequences would have been unimaginable.

However, he couldn't bring himself to apologize to Su Tangtang.

Following this incident, the production team adjusted their schedule: cotton pollination was changed to picking flowers in the early morning, and then working in the fields around 5 or 6 pm, when it would finally be cooler.

The next day, the production team provided everyone with a small fan, but when Huo Yizhou returned from his morning run early in the morning, he was carrying two more.

Su Tangtang has three now, and Huo Yizhou has three too. Together, they have a total of six small fans.

Su Tangtang couldn't help but laugh, "Now that's great, we can use them all in turns without running out."

She suddenly had a brilliant idea: "It would be great if I could tie it to my waist and blow on it."

Huo Yizhou looked at her with a smile in his eyes, "It's not impossible."

Su Tangtang raised an eyebrow and handed over a fan. "Then can you try it for me?"

Huo Yizhou paused noticeably for a moment, but still took it. He stiffly tried to fix the fan to her waist. Su Tangtang was dressed simply today, in thin white trousers and a short red top, which accentuated her slender waist.

His fingers brushed against the hem of her clothes unintentionally, the movement a little unnatural. The clearly defined and supple waistline made his heart flutter slightly for no reason.

But the fan was designed to be worn around the neck, and he tried to find a suitable way to secure it to her waist for a while, but couldn't.

Su Tangtang smiled and said, "Never mind, it won't work."

In the days that followed, everyone continued to work in the fields. The work seemed endless, and it took another seven or eight days before the cotton pollination was finally completed.

However, the drought in the fields remains severe, and the corn seedlings are growing slowly, so watering is the only option.

It took two people three whole days to water all eight acres of land.

On the way back, everyone couldn't help but sigh, "If it doesn't rain soon, we'll have to do it all over again..."

Zhou Yan chimed in, "That's absolutely right!"

"Now I feel that anything is easier than farming."

Shen Yingying also said softly, "I'm really too tired."

Meng Meng was practically slumped against Ke Tangshu, who half-dragged and half-supported her as they walked forward. She muttered weakly, "If we just finished watering and it rains tomorrow... I'll be so angry I'll do the splits."

Whether it was her bad luck coming true or the heavens finally opening their eyes, a heavy rain did indeed fall the following evening.

Everyone was gathered together watching the latest episode of the show when Meng Meng was practically going crazy. "Is this weather doing this on purpose?"

Everyone was left both amused and exasperated by the rain.

If they could have watered the plants a day later, they wouldn't have had to work so hard. However, everyone was also slightly shocked by Meng Meng's sudden "prophetic ability".

The rain was heavy and continued to drizzle all night.

As dawn broke, a light drizzle was still falling. Su Tangtang walked outside the courtyard with an umbrella, where puddles of rainwater had already accumulated in the low-lying areas.

She walked towards a slightly higher area, and after taking only two steps, she suddenly noticed something slowly moving on the ground—a grasshopper.

She crouched down, gently touched it, then carefully picked it up and hurried back into the yard. "Brother Zhou, look!"

Huo Yizhou came out of the house upon hearing the sound and saw her holding an umbrella in one hand and a small object in the other. He was quite surprised and asked, "Is this... a cicada?"

Su Tangtang nodded. "Yes, it also has another name, it's called a grasshopper." Her eyes lit up, and her tone was excited. "This is edible!"

Huo Yizhou smiled and said, "I know."

"Have you tried it?" she pressed.

He shook his head. "Not yet."

Su Tangtang had tried it before. Summer is the season for barbecue. Once, when she was having dinner with friends, someone ordered a plate of fried grasshoppers. She was initially hesitant to try it, but her friends insisted that she eat one. As a result, she was surprised to find it delicious.

She later ate several by herself.

Su Tangtang said enthusiastically, "This is the season when they are most abundant. Let's go for a walk in the woods tonight, maybe we can catch a lot, and I'll make you some fried grasshoppers to try."

Huo Yizhou nodded in agreement, "Okay."

Suddenly remembering something, Su Tangtang turned and walked towards the grove of trees outside the courtyard. Huo Yizhou followed her.

"Let me see if there are any grasshopper holes," she said, looking down to carefully examine the ground. Huo Yizhou followed her example and searched diligently beside her.

Before long, Su Tangtang discovered a small hole. She squatted down and gently pried open the soil around the hole with her fingers. The originally small hole was gradually enlarged by her prying. Huo Yizhou stood around her, watching intently.

"It feels like there's something there," Su Tangtang whispered.

She tentatively stuck her finger into the hole, then suddenly gasped softly, looking up at Huo Yizhou in surprise, "It really is! Its claws grabbed me!"

Huo Yizhou also became interested, "Let me give it a try."

Su Tangtang withdrew her finger, and Huo Yizhou carefully inserted his finger into the hole. After a moment, he nodded to confirm, "It is indeed there."

"Make the hole a little bigger," Su Tangtang suggested.

Huo Yizhou did as instructed, forcefully digging away the soil until it was wide enough for two fingers, then gently hooking it out to pull out the lively grasshopper.

Su Tangtang reached out and caught it, laughing as she said, "This one is really strong!"

Huo Yizhou agreed, saying, "After this rain, they have even more energy to break through the soil."

Su Tangtang nodded with a smile, her eyes sparkling with anticipation. "You bet! Let's go catch them together tonight, it'll be so much fun."

Huo Yizhou responded and asked, "Do you have a flashlight at home?"

Su Tangtang thought for a moment, "It seems not."

“Then we’ll go buy two later,” Huo Yizhou said.

Su Tangtang smiled and nodded, "Okay."
