Chapter 22 Going Mad

Chapter 22 Gone Mad

Ma Nanzheng knocked on the door of the Xia residence, and a servant quickly came to open it.

He said, "I'm looking for Xia Fanxing."

The maid quickly returned and said, "I'm sorry, she must have gone out and isn't home."

Ma Nanzheng was a little disappointed, but Xie Jingchen comforted him, "It's okay, having your parents pass on the message is the same."

The two had barely left when Xia Fanxing rode back on her bicycle.

The maid said that two people had come to see her, one of whom was very tall but frighteningly thin.

Xia Fanxing knew it was Ma Nanzheng as soon as she heard it, but she didn't take it to heart, since they had already settled their differences.

She took a ten-yuan note out of her bag and handed it to the maid, saying, "You can go now."

The maid quickly waved her hand, "Miss, the wages you gave me before were enough to keep me working until the end of the month. I'm already getting a good deal by leaving early, how could I possibly take your money!"

Xia Fanxing forcibly stuffed the money into the maid's pocket, pushed her bicycle inside, and closed the door.

She found the information about the boat tickets in Song's father's study, successfully contacted the other party, and also learned that Song Hechao and Xia Yu wanted to buy boat tickets.

She would use this to report their escape attempt, at which point the house would certainly be confiscated, and she didn't want any innocent servants to be implicated.

Xia Fanxing had already eaten lunch at the state-run restaurant. She lay half-reclined, drinking the spiritual spring water, and habitually patted her stomach.

She was only a little over a month pregnant, and medically speaking, the baby wasn't fully formed yet.

But every time she touched her stomach, she felt as if there was a faint movement inside.

It's as if the baby felt the mother's touch and was responding to her.

Xia Fanxing has gentle eyes and radiates maternal glow.

She said softly, "Sweetie, things here will be over soon. Mommy will take you to find Daddy soon. Aren't you happy?"

Her belly was flat, without any change.

Xia Fanxing smiled helplessly. It seemed that her previous thoughts were just her imagination, and she had been overthinking things.

She entered the space where spring seemed to last all year round to rest and soon fell asleep.

At this moment, her belly bulged slightly, like the marks left by two small hands.

The Ma family.

After finishing their meal, Xie Jingchen and Ma Nanzheng were about to leave.

Ma's mother took out two heavy suitcases and said a little embarrassedly, "Commander, please don't mind. Nan Zheng was too thin, and he didn't want to eat properly before. Now that he has finally recovered, I was so happy that I prepared a little too much..."

Ma Nanzheng was both amused and exasperated: "Then you can keep it for yourselves. The army has everything, we really don't lack anything!"

Xie Jingchen took the two suitcases and said, "Uncle and Aunt, don't worry, I will make sure Zhengzi eats well. I promise you, when he comes back next time, he will be just as strong as before."

Mr. and Mrs. Ma nodded repeatedly, tears welling in their eyes as they saw them off.

"By the way," Ma Nanzheng asked Xie Jingchen, "Commander, what's your landline number? I've been thinking about it, and I think I should leave a way to contact my savior, otherwise it would seem like I'm not being sincere."

Xie Jingchen wrote down a string of numbers.

Ma Nanzheng handed it to his parents and instructed them, "Mom and Dad, take this to Xia Fanxing later. Keep a copy for yourselves too, and call me if you need anything."

So the horse's parents went out with them, but in the opposite direction.

Mr. and Mrs. Ma had only gone halfway when they encountered Xia Fanxing riding a bicycle.

"Girl!" Ma's mother called out to her, told her about Ma Nanzheng's return to the frontier troops, and gave her a slip of paper with a number written on it.

"Frontier troops?!" Xia Fanxing's eyes lit up, and she quickly pedaled her bicycle toward the train station.

Unexpectedly, Ma Nanzheng was able to return to the border troops, so wouldn't he become her connection in the army?

Perhaps she can get in touch with Xie Jingchen through Ma Nanzheng!

Xia Fanxing rushed as fast as she could, but unfortunately, the train had just left when she arrived at the platform.

She couldn't help but sigh, and then she saw the number slip that Mr. and Mrs. Ma had given her.

In a moment of impulsiveness, she quickly found a phone booth and dialed a number.

But she quickly regained her senses and realized that Ma Nanzheng had just boarded the train, so how could he have received this call?

This is a complete waste of time!

So after just one beep, she hung up and turned to leave.

Unbeknownst to her, the moment she hung up, a communications soldier on the other end had already reconnected.

"Hello, this is Commander Xie Jingchen's office."

"Beep beep beep..."

The communications soldier was baffled. Who was calling the regimental commander's private landline, only to hang up after just one ring?

After leaving the train station, Xia Fanxing went straight to the police station to report Song Hechao and Xia Yu for trying to buy boat tickets to escape.

She recounted the whole story and handed over all the evidence she found in Song's father's study to the police.

Following the clues, the police laid an ambush and successfully arrested the person selling boat tickets late at night.

However, since Song Hechao and Xia Yu only inquired about the matter and did not actually pay for the boat tickets, the Xia and Song residences were confiscated, and the two were not arrested.

Even so, it was already a catastrophe for them.

Song Hechao and Xia Yu fled in a disheveled state, hiding everywhere, not wanting anyone to see them in their current state.

Xia Yu cursed, "Damn it, how did the police find out? Didn't you say those people selling boat tickets had a lot of power behind them? How come they were all caught by the police?"

Song Hechao cursed, "You're asking me? Who should I ask? Those people are my dad's connections. I'll tell you exactly what my dad told me."

"What do we do now?" Xia Yu frowned in frustration. "We can't find Xia Baijiao at all, and we don't know how to explain this to Chang Xiang."

He couldn't help but groan as soon as he finished speaking.

That familiar, intense longing resurfaced from the depths of my soul, this time faster, fiercer, and more irresistible than before.

After Xia Yu recovered from his opium addiction last time, he felt confident that he could quit on his own.

But when the addiction kicked in, he realized how weak his willpower was, utterly vulnerable.

He looked at Song Hechao with red eyes.

Song Hechao was racking his brains for a solution and was completely unaware of Xia Yu's unusual behavior.

So Xia Yu easily knocked him unconscious and then delivered him to Chang Xiang.

Chang Xiang took a drag of his cigarette and frowned. "A man?"

Xia Yu lay prostrate at his feet like a dog, constantly begging for opium.

Chang Xiang loosened his grip, and the scarlet cigarette butt hit Xia Yu's face, instantly leaving a red mark.

But Xia Yu didn't care at all and quickly held the cigarette butt and took a deep drag.

After Chang Xiang finished, feeling refreshed, he rewarded Xia Yu with a whole stick.

Xia Yu fell into a state of ecstatic frenzy and unknowingly became Chang Xiang's meal.

When Song Hechao woke up, it was already the afternoon of the next day.

When he saw himself lying with Chang Xiang and Xia Yu, saw the cigarette butts scattered on the ground, and felt a distinct abnormality in his body, he immediately went mad.

He ran to the kitchen, found a cleaver, and walked toward the room with bloodlust in his eyes.
