Chapter 33 Xie Jingchen's Gift

Chapter 33 Xie Jingchen's Gift

"Comrade Xia, don't go. You'll be looked down upon if you go." Zhao Niu lowered his head. "Who told us to be workers in the agricultural company? We weren't born with a delicate fate, let alone to be compared with important people."

Xia Fanxing frowned deeply.

It was obvious that Zhao Niu was bullied, suppressed, and looked down upon at the regimental hospital because of his lowly status; he was even denied hospitalization.

It's conceivable that if she hadn't taken perfect first aid measures, even if Zhao Niu had been rushed to the regimental hospital covered in blood, his condition might have been delayed, leading to irreversible consequences.

Xia Fanxing felt angry.

She tore off Zhao Niu's clothes, turned and walked towards the regimental hospital, "I'm going to demand an explanation."

"Don't go!" Zhao Niu said, his face contorted in pain.

He didn't want his savior, Xia Fanxing, to experience that feeling of having his self-esteem thrown to the ground and trampled on.

Xia Fanxing's clothes were tugged, and when she turned around, she saw Su Xiuxiu.

"Comrade Xia, I'm a little hungry and sleepy. How about we go back, share these two cornbread buns, eat them, and then go to sleep and rest?"

Su Xiuxiu still smiled, revealing two dimples, but Xia Fanxing noticed the faint tears in her eyes.

It seems that Zhao Niu wasn't the only one; Su Xiuxiu was also bullied by doctors at the regimental hospital.

"Go back." Su Xiuxiu said, almost pleadingly.

Xia Fanxing gently exhaled a breath of stale air, "...Okay."

On the way back, in order to lighten the mood, Su Xiuxiu took the initiative to talk about what happened after Zhao Niu left.

"I was worried that Comrade Xia's food rations were insufficient, so I went over to eat with her. I never expected that I would receive cornbread as a reward for helping someone with medical treatment."

She joked, "When I get back, I'm going to eat both of those cornbreads, leaving her not a single bite!"

Xia Fanxing smiled faintly: "Okay, you can have them all."

Su Xiuxiu said playfully, "Never mind, Brother Da Niu hasn't even had a bite yet, so I'll reluctantly give it to him!"

Zhao Niu bowed and said, "Thank you so much, Comrade Su."

After the three of them walked past the cafeteria, Xie Jingchen, who had been waiting behind the wall, came out.

He heard everything Su Xiuxiu said.

Xia Fanxing was starving because she didn't have enough food and needed help from her colleagues. She finally managed to get two steamed buns by treating someone's illness, but she had to give them to her injured colleague.

How can she be so... kind?

Ma Nanzheng lifted the curtain of the canteen and walked out, holding an aluminum lunchbox in his hands.

"Hey, Commander, you haven't left yet? Didn't I tell you I was going to deliver food to Comrade Xia and that you didn't need to wait for me?"

Xie Jingchen's gaze fell on the aluminum lunchbox.

Ma Nanzheng didn't notice and muttered to himself, "I wonder if the workers in the agricultural company will ostracize Comrade Xia. After all, losing rations is a big deal. Comrade Xia must not have eaten enough. I have to send some to her quickly, and I have to be careful not to let anyone else see."

"Staff Officer Ma!" someone suddenly called out to him.

"Huh?" He looked over.

The person walked quickly to Ma Nanzheng's side, and whispered something to him with a serious expression.

"So urgent? Okay, I'll go back right away." Ma Nanzheng sighed, looking at the aluminum lunchbox in his hand.

There's something urgent to attend to at the People's Armed Forces Department, so it looks like he won't be able to deliver the meal today.

“Zhengzi.” Xie Jingchen extended his hand, his dark eyes deep. “Go ahead and do your work, I’ll deliver it for you.”

Temporary dormitory for the auditorium.

An older employee informed Xia Fanxing that someone was looking for her outside.

When Xia Fanxing came out, she discovered that the person who came to see her was Xie Jingchen.

"Commander Xie? What happened?" Xia Fanxing asked in surprise.

Xie Jingchen handed over the aluminum lunchbox, saying, "This was prepared for you by Comrade Ma Nanzheng. He had something come up at the People's Armed Forces Department and couldn't come, so I'm handing it over to him."

Xia Fanxing sighed helplessly. This Ma Nanzheng... never mind.

She took it and said, "Thank you, Commander Xie. Please also convey my thanks to Comrade Ma."

The aluminum lunchbox had been handed over, but Xie Jingchen not only didn't retract his hand, he also put something on the lunchbox instead.

Xia Fanxing looked and saw that they were actually two boiled eggs!

A few eggs could be seen in the window of the regimental canteen, but as an informal employee of the agricultural company, she couldn't even touch the eggshells, let alone own two whole eggs.

"Is this for me too?" Xia Fanxing frowned and shook her head, picking up the egg and returning it to Xie Jingchen.

"Commander Xie, this is too valuable. Please be sure to return it to Comrade Ma."

Ma Nanzheng hadn't arrived at the Corps for more than a few days before her. He hadn't yet established himself, and his body, which had just recovered, needed a lot of nutrition.

Eggs are a rare delicacy for most people, but she had plenty in her space.

“This is for you,” Xie Jingchen said in a low voice.

Xia Fanxing was taken aback, not expecting that this kindness came from him.

Xie Jingchen coughed lightly.

He originally didn't want to explain it in detail, but he took the opportunity to use the pretext of delivering food to Ma Nanzheng to give Xia Fanxing some extra nutrition.

Sure enough, the atmosphere became somewhat awkward after it was said.

Xia Fanxing suddenly smiled brightly: "Then thank you—"

Before she could finish speaking, the eggs placed on the aluminum lunchbox suddenly rolled to the side.

Xia Fanxing and Xie Jingchen reacted very quickly, reaching out to catch the egg almost simultaneously.

But that's how they ended up colliding.

Xia Fanxing's forehead bumped into Xie Jingchen's hard chest, and their hands met in mid-air. Xia Fanxing's delicate fingers darted directly into Xie Jingchen's large palm.

If a passerby who didn't know the truth were to walk by, they might think they were holding hands.

Xie Jingchen quickly withdrew his hand as if he had been burned, and immediately lowered his eyes to apologize: "I'm sorry!"

Xia Fanxing hissed before waving her hand dismissively, "It's nothing, just an accident."

Hearing the cry of pain, Xie Jingchen looked up at her again, and his heart tightened.

I don't know if it's because her skin is too fair or his chest is too hard, but even though it was just a light bump, why did her forehead turn so red?

Xie Jingchen asked, "Comrade Xia, are you alright? Should we go to the regimental hospital to get checked out?"

"It should be fine. Is it red?" Without a mirror, Xia Fanxing couldn't see the extent of the injury, so she could only ask Xie Jingchen to see his reaction.

The dim, golden sunlight of the setting sun fell on Xia Fanxing's face, making her already exquisite features even more dazzling and captivating.

A gentle breeze blew by, causing strands of her hair to flutter against her cheeks.

Amidst her black hair and fair skin, the vibrant red mark on her forehead added a touch of captivating beauty.

Xie Jingchen's heart seemed to skip a beat.

A hint of panic flashed in his eyes, despite his usual cold and composed demeanor.

He quickly looked away and hummed in response.

"Very popular."
