Chapter 4 Slap in the Face
Xia Fanxing thought of how Xia Baijiao stole her blood to open a space in her previous life, so she raised her injured hand and tentatively gripped the black stone.
Suddenly, a blinding white light flashed before my eyes.
When she opened her eyes again, she had successfully bound herself to the space and learned all the rules and rewards related to it.
She was eager to try out the storage function of the space, and just as she opened the door to show off her skills, she saw Xia Baijiao standing at the door about to knock.
Xia Baijiao held a bowl of crystal-clear bird's nest in her hands. She met Xia Fanxing's gaze and revealed a sweet, ingratiating smile.
"Sister Fanxing, it's all my fault today. You're pregnant, so please don't upset the baby. This is a little something from me; it's very nourishing and good for the baby. Please forgive me, okay?"
These are special times, and bird's nest is extremely precious and rare, which shows that Xia Baijiao has put in a lot of effort.
Xia Fanxing knew, of course, that Xia Baijiao's apology and reconciliation were fake; her real intention was to take the opportunity to get the Black Stone back.
Without any hesitation, she tossed the black stone onto the tray, picked up the bird's nest, and said, "I'll give it back to you since you're quite filial. If I find out you don't cherish it or lose it, don't blame me for being rude."
Xia Baijiao beamed with joy and quickly stuffed the black stone into her pocket.
Having successfully obtained the black stone, she abandoned her previous subservient attitude and turned to leave, rolling her eyes at Xia Fanxing with disdain. Her change of expression was faster than turning the pages of a book.
Xia Fanxing didn't tolerate her either, and quickly stepped forward, forcefully bumping into her shoulder.
Xia Baijiao never expected Xia Fanxing to do this, and without any warning, she was knocked to the ground.
She clutched her scraped hand, angrily snapping, "Xia Fanxing, are you crazy?! I kindly brought you bird's nest, and this is how you treat me?"
Xia Fanxing shrugged helplessly, "This is my yard, I can walk around however I want. How was I supposed to know you were so fragile? Is it my fault that you're so delicate and weak?"
Xia Baijiao's eyes turned red and filled with tears. She got up and left, probably to complain to someone again.
Xia Fanxing didn't care.
She put the bird's nest into her spatial storage, then pushed the imported cream-colored women's bicycle to a repairman, asking him to paint it as ugly as possible, just to keep it low-key.
She will have to stay in Haicheng for at least another two weeks, and it will be inconvenient for her to go anywhere without a bicycle.
The old-fashioned bicycle was too high and dangerous, so I had to modify it into a smaller, easier-to-ride model.
Xia Fanxing had arranged with her driver to pick up the car the next day, and strolled leisurely to the entrance of the Song residence.
Most of the Song family's servants were also dismissed, leaving only a butler and a servant.
They knew who Xia Fanxing was, of course, and respectfully welcomed her into the house.
"Didn't Young Master Song come back with you?" The butler only knew that Song Hechao and Xia Fanxing went to the Civil Affairs Bureau to get their marriage certificate today, unaware that the situation had already changed drastically.
"He's still talking to my parents, I came over first." Xia Fanxing said perfunctorily, then told the housekeeper to go about her business while she strolled around.
With neither of Song's parents home, Xia Fanxing easily entered their yard.
Instead of immediately taking away the valuables in the house, she pressed her ear against the wall and tapped and knocked on it to see if it was empty or if there was a secret room behind it.
Unfortunately, I couldn't find it after searching around.
But Xia Fanxing was not discouraged and went to the study to do the same thing again.
Still, nothing was gained.
When she came out of the study this time, she ran into Grandpa Song and Grandma Song.
Grandma Song was shocked and immediately berated Xia Fanxing for being heartless and daring to steal from the Song family!
Grandpa Song was furious and raised his hand to slap Xia Fanxing.
Xia Fanxing didn't need to lift a finger; she only needed to slightly turn her body to dodge Grandpa Song's slap and cause him to lose his balance and fall to the ground, almost breaking his old bones!
Grandma Song quickly helped Grandpa Song up, pointed at Xia Fanxing's nose, and angrily scolded, "How dare you lay a hand on your elders? You're becoming more and more lawless!"
Xia Fanxing apologized sarcastically, "I'm sorry, although I didn't do anything wrong, whenever Grandpa's hands itch to hit someone, I, an innocent outsider, should just stand there and take the beating. Even if I get beaten to death, it's my own fault, since I'm the one who gets in his way."
Grandpa Song was so angry by these words that his face turned red, and he pointed at Xia Fanxing but couldn't say a word.
Before Grandma Song could speak, Xia Fanxing interrupted, "If you think I stole something, then go call the police right now. I'll cooperate fully with the investigation. After all, I'm also curious to know what I stole from your house and where I hid it."
Grandma Song was speechless after being rebuked by Xia Fanxing.
She and Grandpa Song exchanged a glance and decided to go to the study to check on the situation first.
Xia Fanxing watched their retreating figures, her heart filled with coldness.
In her past life, she was a dutiful and filial daughter to them. When they were unwell, she took meticulous care of them without ever taking off her clothes. She was more like their own grandchild than Song Hechao.
What did we get in return?
In return, they stood high on the boat, looking at her with the eyes of someone looking at trash, saying that they had seen through her scheme long ago, and knew that she had done so much just to use and bribe them, and that her intentions were not pure at all.
They said they still preferred Xia Baijiao, who was innocent and pure and had never served them.
Having been given a second chance at life, Xia Fanxing wanted to see how long these two old people could keep up their antics without her meticulous care.
A short while later, the two came out.
Everything in the study was intact. Grandpa Song looked very unwell, but he had nothing to say.
Grandma Song wasn't embarrassed at all. She smiled warmly and said, "Daughter, don't take what I just said to heart. It's just that several neighbors have been burgled these past two days, so we have to be careful too."
For years, they always said they treated Xia Fanxing like their own granddaughter, but when something really happened, they were the first to suspect her of being a thief.
hypocritical!
Grandpa Song snorted coldly, frowned, lightly pounded his thigh, and stole glances at Xia Fanxing's reaction.
In the past, whenever he did this, Xia Fanxing would immediately understand and help him into the house, give him a hot compress and massage, and wait until he was comfortable and smiling before she was done.
But now Xia Fanxing didn't even glance at him, and said she was going shopping before striding away.
Grandpa Song laughed angrily: "Fine, very well! If you're so capable, then don't ever come to my face again in this lifetime!"
Grandma Song watched Xia Fanxing leave and said softly, "Old man, I still feel uneasy. How about we go back to the house through the secret passage?"
The two returned to the study and made sure no one was around before closing the door.
Grandpa Song stepped on a brick, and soon the secret passage opened. The two slowly walked down, and the mechanism door closed.
Xia Fanxing, who had quietly returned and was peeking through the crack in the window, suddenly realized what was going on.
No wonder she knocked on the wall for so long without any response; the secret room was underground!
After waiting patiently for a while, Xia Fanxing entered the study and stepped on the mechanism, successfully opening the secret passage.
She walked down.
In the dim candlelight, there were boxes and boxes of gold, silver and jewelry, antiques and paintings, and anything of value.
This must be the Song family's treasure vault!
Xia Fanxing put them all into her space without hesitation, leaving only empty boxes.
As she searched the area, she discovered that in addition to the study, there were three exits in the secret passage, which she estimated led to the bedrooms of Song's father, mother, grandparents, and Song Hechao, respectively.
So after she finished collecting the treasures in the secret passage, she went to ransack the two bedrooms.
Although only Grandpa and Grandma Song's bedroom was left to be confiscated, Xia Fanxing had no intention of leaving it for them.
So she hid in a secluded spot, entered the space, and comfortably lay on the leather sofa, drinking milk, eating pastries, and resting. Before she knew it, she had fallen asleep.
She was awakened by a loud scream.
