Chapter 115 Blood, Hands Covered in Blood

the next day.

Zhang Juan got up early in the morning, served breakfast to her family, and then rushed off to work.

She was a junior manager at the department store.

Buying hawthorn cake was a simple matter.

"Zhou Yu, I have some indigestion. My stomach is bloated and painful right now. Could you go to the pharmacy and buy me some turmeric?"

"Director Zhang, didn't you just buy hawthorn cake? That can stimulate the appetite and relieve indigestion."

At home, Zhang Juan is an arrogant and wicked mother-in-law, always finding fault with everything. But outside, she portrays herself as a "good mother-in-law" who is bullied by her daughter-in-law, both to gain sympathy and to incite people to condemn her daughter-in-law.

Let them understand from the bottom of their hearts that a good mother-in-law like her is very rare, so they shouldn't be ungrateful and try to find ways to go against her.

Having a mother-in-law like her is something to be grateful for; one should fawn over her and go along with her.

“My old bones are not worthy of eating such good food. These two packs weigh two pounds each, and they cost two yuan. I have to save them for my eldest daughter-in-law. After all, if she is happy eating this, maybe my grandson, whom I have been waiting for for three years, will come.”

“I don’t mind suffering a little. This turmeric only costs three cents a tael. Grind it into powder and soak it in water to drink. It has the same effect.”

A hint of envy appeared in Zhou Yu's eyes: "Director Zhang, if I had a mother-in-law like you, I would be so happy."

Zhang Juan smiled.

But deep down, he spat out a few curses.

A poor, cramped apartment dweller wants to be her daughter-in-law?

What kind of daydreams are you having in broad daylight?

"Go."

Zhou Yu looked troubled: "Director Zhang, it's working hours now, if I go out..."

"What? My words, as the director, no longer carry any weight?"

Seeing Zhang Juan's stern face, Zhou Yu, who had just entered, immediately changed his tune: "Director, I'll go right away."

Zhang Juan hummed in agreement and then dismissed Zhou Yu.

Zhou Yu was a little confused: "Director, the money—"

He had only uttered half of the word "money" when he was stopped by a glare from Zhang Juan.

"Is there anything else?"

"without."

After leaving the office, Zhou Yu didn't dare to delay and ran to a pharmacy on another street to buy medicine.

Even so.

Unfortunately, on my way back, I ran into Deputy Manager Wu, who was on patrol.

"Deputy Manager."

"Come to my office."

Zhou Yu entered Wu Yue's office with trepidation.

Bang.

Wu Yue slammed his hand on the table: "Taking personal matters during work hours, do you have no sense of discipline?"

You know, working in a department store is a highly sought-after job; people outside are practically scrambling to get in.

Wu Yue was naturally displeased with the appearance of Zhou Yu, a troublemaker who didn't take things seriously.

Moreover, if everyone follows suit, he won't be able to continue as the deputy manager in charge of the department store's order.

"No, it was Director Zhang who asked me to buy medicine."

"Zhou Yu! A mistake is a mistake! Don't try to shift the blame onto her just because Comrade Zhang is easy to talk to!"

"I don't have any." Zhou Yu quickly took out the turmeric that Zhang Juan had asked her to buy. "Deputy Manager, look, the medicine is right here."

Wu Yue frowned, picked up the internal phone, and made the call.

"Zhang Juan, come to my office."

Five minutes later, Zhang Juan walked in with a bottle of Erguotou (a type of Chinese liquor) and a smile.

"Manager, what brings you here?"

When the door was fully pushed open and Zhang Juan saw Zhou Yu standing inside, her heart skipped a beat.

When Zhou Yu saw Zhang Juan walk in, she rushed forward and grabbed her hand, saying anxiously, "Director, please tell the deputy manager that you asked me to buy medicine for you during work hours."

Zhang Juan flung Zhou Yu's arm away: "Xiao Zhou! Someone wrote an anonymous letter accusing you of shirking your duties. I'm giving you a chance because it's your first offense."

"It was you who saw me eating hawthorn because of my bloating and offered to buy me some medicine. I thought you would go to buy it during your lunch break, but I didn't expect you to skip work to buy it."

"When the manager caught you, instead of admitting your mistake, you even tried to shift the blame."

"Zhou Yu, you have disappointed me greatly."

Zhang Juan spoke quickly and urgently, leaving Zhou Yu, who was in a daze, unable to get a word in edgewise.

"So that's how it is."

Wu Yue exclaimed indignantly, "Zhou Yu, how could you do this?"

"Since you have such a great idea, our department store is too small to accommodate someone as important as you. Pack your things and leave."

"Deputy Manager, that's not true. I've been framed."

"Manager, this is the wine you asked me to bring you. I'll leave it here and take Zhou Yu out to complete the resignation procedures."

After saying that, Zhang Juan pulled Zhou Yu out of the office.

The moment Zhou Yu saw the Erguotou (a type of Chinese liquor), he seemed to understand something and stopped arguing.

Once outside the office, she threw the medicine on the floor and crushed it fiercely.

"Zhang Juan, what goes around comes around. I'll be waiting for the day you're kicked out of the house."

Zhou Yu didn't give Zhang Juan a chance to say anything more and turned around to go through the resignation process.

"You little slut!" Zhang Juan cursed under her breath, picked up the oiled paper that looked like it had been poked with needles and was bulging with a dense patch of holes, and walked towards her office.

Back in her office, Zhang Juan ground the lumps of turmeric into a fine, yellowish-brown powder.

After finishing, she opened one of the packets of hawthorn cake, crushed each piece of hawthorn cake, and then sprinkled fine powder on it.

Clang.

The door was forcefully pushed open by Zhou Yu.

Zhang Juan was startled and let out a short "Ah!"

Upon seeing that it was Zhou Yu, his anger surged instantly.

"No hands? Can't you knock?"

Zhou Yu snorted coldly, stepped forward, and slammed the resignation letter onto the table with a loud bang: "Sign it!"
