Chapter 140 Strange

"What are you doing lurking around in front of my house?" Huo Yan stared warily at Su Wantang and Yue Tao, who were disguised.

Huo Yan, Huo Jun's adopted sister, the good sister he raised and ended up in bed with.

Upon seeing an old acquaintance from her past life, Su Wantang narrowed her eyes, her expression calm: "We've come to visit relatives."

"Visiting relatives? How come I've never seen you before? Which family are you related to?" Huo Yan didn't believe it at all.

In such a big village, nothing can be kept secret, and she's met every relative of every family. There are no two people like these in front of her.

"Comrade Song Wanying called us here."

Song Wanying? Isn't that Liu Cuicui's aunt?

Did she discover something?

Huo Yan's expression instantly became flustered, and the sharpness of her previous questioning disappeared.

"Why...why did she call you here?"

"This lady, you wouldn't happen to be the sister-in-law of the niece that Comrade Song mentioned, would you?" Su Wantang feigned surprise.

Huo Yan nodded, and Su Wantang laughed, "Isn't this a case of the flood washing away the Dragon King's temple? We're all one family, let's go inside and talk."

Huo Yan instinctively wanted to refuse, but she was afraid of arousing Su Wantang's suspicion. If she asked the villagers a few questions when she left, wouldn't that give her away completely?

She forced a smile and opened the courtyard gate: "Come in and sit down, come in and sit down."

As she entered the courtyard, Huo Yan caught sight of Yue Tao beside Su Wantang and a thought struck her: "Hey girl, could you ask this guy next to you to call my mom? She's working in the fields. My mom's name is Huo Xiaoyan."

Yue Tao looked at Su Wantang, who nodded: "Okay."

Huo Yan breathed a sigh of relief: "Little sister, sit down first, I'll make you a cup of sugar water. But you might have to wait a while, I left in a hurry this morning and didn't have time to make it."

As she spoke, she picked up the enamel cup on the cabinet, scooped out a spoonful of sugar, and walked towards the kitchen.

Su Wantang raised an eyebrow and glanced into the corner of her memory, where she spotted a thermos.

She didn't stop her: "Thank you for your help, ma'am."

Huo Yan's body suddenly stiffened.

Although she was the one who called her "sister" first, hearing her called "big sister" made her, who was still unmarried and considered an old maid, feel inexplicably uncomfortable.

He couldn't help but feel a bit resentful towards Huo Xiaoyan.

But when she thought of what Huo Xiaoyan had said to her, she suppressed the slight discomfort in her heart.

Brother, it's all just an act with them; they're the real family.

Her status meant she couldn't offer her older brother any help, but no one in the family could get past her.

After seeing Huo Yan enter the kitchen and close the door, Su Wantang got up, walked to the thermos, pulled out the stopper, and saw that there was still half a bottle of steaming hot water.

interesting.

Su Wantang closed the thermos lid and tiptoed toward the back of the kitchen, where there was a window.

She stood on tiptoe and peeked inside.

The next second, his pupils dilated sharply.

There was no one inside.

She clearly saw Huo Yan walk in with her own eyes.

After scanning it carefully two or three more times to make sure she wasn't seeing things, Su Wantang calmed herself down, returned to her room, and frowned in thought.

Not long after I entered the house, there was a commotion in the yard.

Huo Xiaoyan has returned.

"Miss, what does your aunt-in-law want with you?"

Su Wantang carefully considered her words before speaking: "Comrade Song asked me to come and see Cuicui."

Huo Xiaoyan narrowed her eyes, pointed at Su Wantang, and said fiercely, "Tell me, who are you? Why are you impersonating your in-laws' aunt?"

Despite her flustered state, Su Wantang remained composed: "Aunt Huo, please be more polite. If Comrade Song hadn't invited me, do you think I would have wanted to come to this rustic countryside? Since you don't welcome me, I'll leave now, and Comrade Song will come to talk to you personally tomorrow."

She was certain that Huo Xiaoyan was hiding something and dared not let her go back to find Song Wanying. Otherwise, if Song Wanying caused a scene and the truth came out, they wouldn't be able to get their money back.

As Su Wantang expected, upon hearing her confident words, Huo Xiaoyan, who had been frowning just a second ago, immediately put on a friendly face.

"Look how anxious you are. I was just joking with you. It's not that I don't want you to see Cuicui, it's just that Cuicui is sick and can't see anyone." Huo Xiaoyan probed persistently.

Su Wantang's eyes flickered, and following up on the information Huo Xiaoyan had just revealed, she continued, "I am a doctor at the hospital. Comrade Song specifically invited me here to treat her niece."

Now, Huo Xiaoyan completely believed Su Wantang's words.

After all, Song Wanying was a wealthy woman who had spent over a hundred yuan to treat Liu Cuicui's illness.

Smallpox is contagious, and she couldn't come herself. Given how much she cared for Liu Cuicui, it was perfectly reasonable for her to send a doctor to visit her.

As her mind raced through the possibilities, Huo Xiaoyan's expression changed drastically: "No way!"

Seemingly realizing that her reaction was too strong, she grabbed Su Wantang's hand, put on a face that said, "It's for Su Wantang's own good."

“Good girl, it’s not that your aunt doesn’t want you to visit people, but smallpox is contagious. Look at how pretty you are, if you get smallpox and your face gets all scratched up, it won’t be good for you to get married in the future.”

In his heart, however, he cursed Song Wanying to the point of being furious.

Why bother calling for a doctor? Giving more money will do more good than anything else.

Su Wantang's eyes softened slightly, and her tone became arrogant: "Auntie, don't worry. Although I've never had smallpox, I'm a doctor. I'll wear a mask and be fully prepared. Nothing will happen."

Never won?

Huo Xiaoyan's eyes brightened slightly: "Good girl, you can't do anything reckless. So what if you're a doctor? You're still a living, breathing person, not some steel or copper. What if... you get infected? What will you do for the rest of your life? A woman's face is a woman's lifelong matter. You know, there was a very beautiful girl in our brigade before, but she accidentally scratched her face with a tree branch, and her good marriage was ruined. She ended up marrying an old man who had been married before and had three children."
