"What did he say to you?" Su Wantang asked curiously, suppressing a laugh.
She bumped into Li Sisi on the roadside, blinked twice to make sure she wasn't mistaken, and then walked over.
As they got closer, they noticed that the girl was staring absentmindedly in one direction.
Before I could even ask, the girl blurted out everything.
What's wrong with you? You're clearly smitten.
Speaking of this, Li Sisi got angry. Her cheeks puffed out as she said, "He suggested that I go to the hospital to see a neurologist. Isn't that just calling me crazy?"
"Hahaha." Su Wantang couldn't help but burst into laughter.
"Sister Wantang!" Li Sisi's eyes were full of resentment.
Su Wantang stopped laughing and asked, "How do you think you're asking questions?"
"He was terrified, still shaken." Li Sisi, linking her arm with Su Wantang's, said earnestly, "Sister Wantang, let me tell you, that guy is horrible, he'll never be able to find a wife—"
Su Wantang quickly covered her mouth: "Don't talk nonsense."
Some things shouldn't be said carelessly, to avoid divination.
Li Sisi shouted, "I'm not talking nonsense."
Seeing her confusion, Su Wantang didn't bring it up. Matters of the heart should be left to nature.
She rephrased it: "No matter how fierce that man was, didn't he still save you? If you say he won't be able to find a wife, isn't that cursing him?"
"No, I just... I just... felt that way." Li Sisi lacked confidence. "Sister Wantang, I misspoke, I won't say it anymore."
"Let's not talk about him anymore. This time, my aunt broke her promise. My mom and I both feel sorry for you. Come on, let's go. I'll take you to the Friendship Store to buy you some nice things. You can't refuse them. This is an apology gift. Otherwise, you don't consider me, Li Sisi, a friend."
With the Lunar New Year approaching, Su Wantang also planned to buy some things for her family, so she didn't refuse.
It was several hours later when the two left the Friendship Store.
After having an outdated lunch together, Li Sisi rode her bicycle home, while Su Wantang took a taxi back.
"Mom, Mom, I'm back! Come out quickly, I bought lots of things."
As soon as Tang Qing stepped out of the house, she saw the yard filled with bicycles and bags, and her heart skipped a beat.
"Didn't I tell you to buy these for Wan Tang? Why did you buy so many for yourself?"
“I bought it. Sister Wan Tang picked out a scarf for herself, and the rest were things for her family. She wouldn’t let me pay for them.”
"Mom, Wan Tang really liked that scarf. She put it on as soon as we left the Friendship Store. I bought one too. When we went outside, we could tell we were good friends."
Tang Qing said irritably, "How did I end up giving birth to such a blockhead like you?"
"Mom, I'm so sad. I even bought you a gift."
"What gift? You still remember me?"
"Mom, I think it's nice that Sister Wantang bought things for the family, so I bought some for you too."
"Wantang is a good child. You should learn more from her. I don't mind."
Li Sisi rolled her eyes: "Mom, isn't that obvious? I'm not stupid."
"By the way, stay away from Liu Cuicui, the new daughter-in-law of the Huo family. She's not a good person."
"That's right, isn't it? It spews feces from its mouth."
*
Back home, Su Wantang put her things in the living room, asked Aunt Wang for directions, and then knocked on the study door.
"Grandpa, it's me, Wan Tang. I want to ask you something."
After the pharmacy closed, Su Wantang went to the police station, but the junior officer there said that Fu Jing had taken leave.
Lu Zhentian hurriedly stuffed the notebook into the drawer: "Wantang, come in."
"What do you want to ask Grandpa?" he asked with a smile.
"Grandpa, can you tell me about my grandpa?"
A look of nostalgia crossed Lu Zhentian's eyes: "Your grandfather was a very capable doctor..."
He talked a lot, mostly about how he met Su Zeyu and how he praised Su Zeyu's medical skills.
He rambled on and on, but didn't provide the information Su Wantang wanted to know.
But Su Wantang was not impatient. She listened attentively, occasionally interjecting a word or two. The old man and the young woman chatted in a relaxed and comfortable manner.
When Lu Zhentian got tired of talking, Su Wantang poured him a glass of water: "Grandpa, have some water and rest."
After a while, Su Wantang asked, "Grandpa, my grandpa used to live in Kyoto?"
“Yes, the biggest clinic in the alley over there in Xichuan used to be run by your grandfather. I still remember being carried into the clinic back then…”
Lu Zhentian's voice was not quiet, but it couldn't drown out the pounding of Su Wantang's heart at that moment.
"Grandpa," she said, her voice tight, her clothes crumpled from being pinched, "Does my grandpa have any brothers or sisters?"
"I've only ever seen him at the clinic."
"Does my dad have one?"
"Isn't your father your grandfather's only son?"
Su Wantang's heart, which had been pounding, settled back down, leaving her with a mixed feeling that was hard to describe.
She comforted herself, at least there was a clue now, and she could continue investigating.
That evening, Su Wantang presented the gifts she had bought to everyone at the dinner table, and everyone was very happy.
"Wantang, I really like this jade bracelet of yours. It's a great purchase, but you're not allowed to buy any more next time. You've only earned so much money, don't spend it recklessly."
As soon as Wen Wanqing spoke, Lu Zhentian and Lu Yuanyang followed up, saying, "Grandpa (Dad) has money. You two save all the money you earn."
Su Wantang smiled and said, "Mom, I'm making that whitening cream. I plan to establish a famous brand and export it overseas. I'll make a lot of money in the future, so don't worry about saving it for me."
To be honest, Su Wantang wasn't sad at all when Aunt Sisi gave up the cooperation; she could do this business herself.
It's something I need to ask Grandpa Chen.
Previously, I was only thinking about signing a contract because of Sisi. Now that the contract is gone, it's perfect. I can do it myself, both domestically and internationally, and take the high-end route.
