Su Wantang tilted her head, her eyes slightly darkening, intriguing.
"No--"
Her sleeve was suddenly tugged, interrupting Su Wantang's half-spoken words. She heard Lu Huai'an beside her ask, "Yingying, how do you feel?"
"Huh?" Wen Yingying exclaimed in surprise.
"Luo Xiao is one of my soldiers, and his character is impeccable."
Cousin, so you agree?
“I…” Wen Yingying’s fingers, hanging at her sides, clenched the hem of her clothes tightly, “It’s fine too.”
Her voice was very soft, with a slight tremor from being startled.
"Luo Xiao," Lu Huai'an said, stating the address, "make sure he is delivered safely."
"Yes, Deputy Commander!" Luo Xiao instinctively saluted.
He turned to Wen Yingying and said, "Comrade, let's go."
"good."
Luo Xiao had been a soldier for a long time and was used to taking long strides. After walking for a while, he heard messy footsteps behind him and realized something was wrong, so he gradually slowed down.
Wen Yingying was a thoughtful girl. She caught up with Luo Xiao and whispered, "Thank you."
"Huh?" Luo Xiao scratched the back of his head, glancing sideways at Wen Yingying, who only reached his shoulder, his tone puzzled, "Thank me for what?"
Wen Yingying noticed the gaze above her and subconsciously took two steps away. The ringing of the bicycle bell interrupted the words she was about to say.
Almost simultaneously, her arm was grabbed, and she began to tremble uncontrollably. A familiar male voice came from beside her: "Watch out, there's a car."
The man pulled her to a different spot. Just as they regained their footing, they heard a loud thud as something heavy hit the ground, followed by a string of vulgar curses.
"You old hag, walk properly, why are you squeezing into the middle like that!"
Unpleasant memories flooded back, and Wen Yingying's eyes welled up with tears. She glared coldly at the man who had fallen to the ground with his car: "Your driving skills and eyesight are terrible. What are you doing wandering around on the main road?"
His tone was gentle and soft, but his words were anything but polite.
The man was instantly enraged. He braced himself on one hand and stood up arrogantly, but when he heard Luo Xiao say, "Want to fight?" his gaze shifted to him. Looking at his muscular build, military green clothes, and the man's red neck, it was as if the valve of a car tire had been unscrewed and deflated instantly.
He muttered "bad luck" under his breath, picked up his bicycle, and prepared to leave.
Suddenly, Luo Xiao plopped down on the bicycle. His legs were so long that he couldn't stretch them out while sitting. One leg was bent with his foot on the ground, while the other leg was straight with the sole of his shoe sticking up.
“Apologize.” His tone left no room for argument.
The man, who had tried with all his might but couldn't move the bicycle, glared at Luo Xiao resentfully, and said with a show of humility, "I'm sorry."
Luo Xiao pointed at Wen Yingying: "It's not me, it's her."
The man was somewhat reluctant and hesitated to speak. Luo Xiao said, "If you refuse to apologize for insulting military family members, we'll go to the police station to settle this."
"I'm sorry!" the man managed to shout, "Can you let me go?"
Luo Xiao didn't speak, but looked at Wen Yingying, who was already stunned, and asked, "How do you feel? Did you get your revenge?"
The little rabbit's eyes turned red with anger.
He stood up only after she nodded.
After this little incident, Luo Xiao took the initiative to say, "You go inside, I'll go outside."
"Thanks."
They walked in silence, and twenty minutes later, Wen Yingying arrived at her doorstep.
"I'm home. Thank you for bringing me back."
This woman really loves saying thank you; she said it three times for such a short distance.
"It's what I should do, you're welcome. I'm going back to my unit now."
—
"Lu Huai'an, why are you stopping me? Do you know there's a pig rooting up our beautiful cabbage?" Su Wantang said irritably.
"Know."
Su Wantang got even angrier and twisted his arm: "Knowing that, you still—"
"Second Aunt." Lu Huai'an gestured for Su Wantang to look ahead.
"Second Aunt?" Su Wantang was taken aback. She looked away from Lu Huai'an and saw Miao Qiaoling. She suddenly realized who it was.
No wonder I let Yingying come out alone; it turns out she was following behind.
“Yingying… Second Aunt…” Su Wantang was a little confused. Her second aunt was here, watching Luo Xiao send Yingying away.
Miao Qiaoling smiled at Su Wantang: "Wantang, thank you so much. If it weren't for you, Yingying's illness..."
She changed the subject: "If it weren't for this illness, Yingying would be of marriageable age by now. I just saw him from afar, and he seems like a nice guy."
Su Wantang hesitated before speaking, "Second Aunt, isn't this a bit like forcing a duck onto a shelf?"
"Wantang, you don't understand. Take a look around more, and if it's suitable, get engaged and stay at home for a few years before discussing marriage."
Su Wantang was speechless.
"Alright then, your second aunt won't disturb you two young lovers' time together. I'll be going now," Miao Qiaoling said, showing her keen understanding.
Lu Huai'an suddenly spoke up: "Second Aunt, don't follow us, we'll be discovered."
Miao Qiaoling was taken aback, then grinned and said, "You see, if I hadn't mentioned it, I would have forgotten how vigilant you soldiers are."
"My aunt knows and has left."
After she left, Lu Huai'an naturally took Su Wantang's hand and said, "Tangtang, let's go too."
"Do you want to buy some fabric and have a tailor make a pattern, or do you want to just buy a red dress from the Friendship Store to wear as your wedding gown?"
Lu Huai'an stopped, turned around and looked at Su Wantang, who was standing still, and called softly, "Tangtang, why aren't you leaving?"
Su Wantang's gaze was fixed on Lu Huai'an's eyes, and she said with certainty, "You did this on purpose!"
Lu Huai'an did not deny it: "As the captain of the special training team, I naturally have to consider the lifelong affairs of the team members."
Su Wantang was too lazy to expose his little scheme, and said irritably, "You're really jealous."
He raised his eyebrows, his tone serious: "Not entirely. It's better to keep a good pig for yourself than to let it go to someone else."
