Chapter 209 Wedding Absence

Lu Huai'an paused for a moment, then quickly turned around and chased after him.

"Tangtang," he called from behind.

As I approached the store, a spring breeze swept by, instantly extinguishing my inner turmoil, much like a summer thunderstorm that arrives suddenly and fiercely, and stops just as quickly.

Su Wantang stopped, her eyes sparkling: "Huai'an, I want to eat sour plums."

Lu Huai'an was even more bewildered, and tentatively asked, "Shall we go buy it now?"

"Um."

After swallowing a sour plum, Su Wantang's eyebrows curved into a smile, and she was in a good mood: "Never mind, I'll wear a military uniform like you."

Suddenly, she turned around sharply, her voice low and menacing: "Don't tell me you can't even get me a properly fitting military uniform."

"Impossible." Lu Huai'an denied decisively.

Su Wantang snorted: "That's more like it."

However, Su Wantang did not end up wearing the military uniform that Lu Huai'an had prepared. That evening, Su Zhichen brought him a beautiful turquoise cheongsam, saying that it was given to him by his grandfather before he passed away.

The moment Su Wantang tried it on, the whole family held their breath, their eyes filled with barely suppressed amazement.

The turquoise wasn't a vibrant green, but rather the color of bamboo shoots just sprouting in the early spring morning mist, mixed with the clarity of the lake waters of Jiangnan. The collar and cuffs of the cheongsam were trimmed with silver thread, embroidered with crabapple blossoms of varying sizes.

As Su Wantang walked in, her dress shimmered slightly, her waist perfectly cinched to accentuate her slender figure, and the hem of her skirt draped with delicate dark patterns, creating the illusion of shimmering light flowing across the fabric as she moved.

Lu Huai'an's eyes held a fire that made Su Wantang uncomfortable, and she raised her hand to tuck a stray hair behind her ear.

He stepped forward, took Su Wantang's hand, and said in a slightly dark voice, "Very beautiful."

“I think this is good too,” Wen Wanqing quickly added.

Everyone agreed, and Su Wantang liked it too, so the wedding dress was decided.

Three days passed in the blink of an eye, and the wedding arrived quietly.

The night before the wedding, Su Wantang left the Lu family and moved into Su Zhichen's new house.

The next day, just as dawn was breaking, there was a knock on the courtyard gate. Li Jia, Li Sisi, and Zhou Yu arrived one after another, surrounding Su Wantang as they dressed her up, chattering away.

"So beautiful! If people in Huai'an saw this, they wouldn't be able to resist stopping in their tracks!"

Su Wantang suddenly felt a little hot at the base of her ears.

I thought to myself, "That's more than that!"

She tried it on that day, and that night, the man, like a wolf that hadn't eaten for half a month, devoured her thoroughly.

Li Sisi said indignantly, "Let's see who dares to say that Sister Wantang and Deputy Commander Lu are not a good match or that they are not in love. They'll be so jealous they'll die."

Su Wantang was amused by Li Sisi's vivid little expressions. She grabbed her hand and coaxed her, "Okay, let's be happy today. Let's not talk about those annoying people. Look how angry you are."

Li Sisi snorted: "I'm not angry, I just... can't stand it. Why are you always staring at other men? It's not like there aren't any single men out there. Look at other men more."

“For example, Captain Fu?” Zhou Yu winked and joked.

"Nonsense, no way! He's so fierce, I'm not blind," Li Sisi retorted, blushing.

"Captain Fu?" A thought flashed through Su Wantang's mind. "That day, was Fu Jing the one who saved you?"

Zhou Yu said at the right moment, "Sister Wantang, you weren't in the shop that day, so Sisi asked me about it. I wanted to tell you about it later, but I was too busy to remember."

Su Wantang nodded.

Li Sisi gritted her teeth: "Yes, Sister Wantang, it's him."

The three onlookers, watching Li Sisi blush without realizing it and her adorable, huffy expression, covered their mouths and chuckled.

Li Sisi sensed something was wrong and asked, "What are you laughing at?"

"I'm happy today." Su Wantang's attitude towards other people's relationships is respect and non-interference.

Li Jia didn't point it out, but young people should experience the beauty of love more. Zhou Yu was even less likely to do so. She knew very well that she was only able to talk to Li Sisi because of Su Wantang.

Unlike the cheerful and gentle atmosphere here, the wedding party led by Lu Huai'an seemed ready to fight.

Lu Huai'an was the captain of the special training team, and naturally he called all his subordinates to attend the celebration.

A group of grown men sitting together wouldn't be chatting about trivial things.

The married couple was surrounded by unmarried people who inquired about their wedding arrangements. This was their first public appearance, and they couldn't afford to make a fool of themselves.

Furthermore, what if they anger Su Wantang and she stops including them in 'collective progress' in the future?

The benefits of medicinal baths were no longer clear to the ten of them.

Hou Bin finally had a chance to use his skills, and he blurted out one sentence after another: "My wife said that if the red envelopes are enough, it will be easy to break down the door when we get married."

"My wife also said that I can't be fierce or domineering, I have to behave properly."

"My wife..."

Others: "...So what if you have a wife?"

Hou Bin was very proud and patted his chest: "Amazing, I'll be a dad this year, with a sweet and soft little cotton-padded jacket."

The unmarried ones: "I...want to punch someone!"

"We want to too."

Other experienced people who didn't have a chance to speak quietly stepped back to watch the show: "We're not involved."

The phone suddenly rang.

Luo Xiao stood up, caught it, and a moment later, his expression changed drastically.

"Stop fooling around! Emergency mission!"

As soon as Lu Huai'an finished getting ready and stepped out of the room, the smile on his face suddenly froze.

Time flies when you're chatting.

"Why haven't the wedding party arrived yet at this hour?" Li Jia asked anxiously.

"I hope nothing bad has happened." Zhou Yu asked worriedly.

Li Sisi dismissed it: "What could be more important than what happened today?"

"Just wait, they'll be here soon."

Su Wantang didn't think much of it and said with a smile, "Don't worry, just wait a little longer, Huai'an will come."

As soon as he finished speaking, a lively commotion arose outside.

Su Wantang raised her eyebrows: "Here it comes—"

"Xia Bao, what are you doing in here?" Li Jia hurriedly pushed her out.

"Sister-in-law, don't chase me away, I have something to say," Xia Bao shouted.

"What could you possibly have to do? Nothing's urgent."

Su Wantang called out to Li Jia, "Sister Jia, let Xia Bao speak."

Xia Bao scratched his head, his tone apologetic: "Sister-in-law, my cousin in Huai'an received an urgent mission from the army and can't come over, so he asked me to help pick him up."

Su Wantang was stunned. The mix of nervousness and excitement she had felt earlier turned into overwhelming disappointment, making her chest feel heavy and her breathing difficult.

"Wantang, are you alright?" Li Jia and the others quickly surrounded Su Wantang, who looked unwell, and comforted her.

Amidst the noise of the crowd, Su Wantang blinked her sore eyes and whispered, "I'm fine."

"Xia Bao, let's go."

The courtyard was inconvenient, so we booked Cuihualou, one of the most famous hotels in Beijing, for the wedding venue.

When she arrived at the door, Su Wantang saw Liu Cuicui standing there, blocked from view, and she frowned.

Liu Cuicui also noticed Su Wantang: "Cousin, why are you alone? Where's your husband?"

"I heard that the delegation that went abroad to study medicine returned home today."
