Chapter 100 I wish you two a baby soon
Fu Yucheng took the ginger tea and drank it all, then wiped his mouth and smiled: "The ginger tea made by my wife is still delicious. It's so spicy that it warms my whole body."
Yun Tangyin hung the thick coat he had taken off on the rope: "Drink it right out of the pot, be careful not to burn yourself. By the way, are there many people sharing the cabbage today?"
"You can't beat me." Fu Yucheng raised his chin proudly. "I woke up half an hour earlier to queue up, picking only the ones with dew on them, to ensure they are fresh. Look at this one, the leaves are so juicy that you can squeeze out the water. It's perfect for making pickled cabbage."
Yun Tangyin squatted down and turned the cabbage, her fingertips stroking a tender leaf: "It's really good. But don't always think about me. Mom likes to eat the cabbage stems, so you have to leave a few thick ones."
"I picked it out for Mom a long time ago and put it at the bottom." Fu Yucheng also squatted down and took out a round cabbage from the bottom of the basket. "Look at this one, it has solid sides, and it's perfect for stewing tofu."
Jiang Jianhua came out with a wooden basin to wash clothes. Seeing the two squatting in front of the cabbage pile and whispering, he smiled and called out, "Yinyin, do you want me to help you peel the cabbage stalks and dry them in the sun? You said you wanted to make pickles the other day, and I happen to be free."
"That would be great." Yun Tangyin stood up straight. "Thank you for your hard work, sister-in-law. I'll fry some sweet potato balls for you later."
"You said so," Jiang Jianhua said as he poured water into the wooden basin. "I don't have any money for food this month, and your second brother is still complaining about not having a good meal."
Fu Yuanshan came back from outside carrying a hoe. Hearing this, he said in a muffled voice, "I didn't say anything."
"Oh, you're still embarrassed." Jiang Jianhua suppressed a laugh, "Then who was it that stole the meatballs when I wasn't paying attention the other day?"
Fu Yuanshan's ears turned red as he carried his hoe to the woodshed. Fu Yucheng called out from behind him, "Brother, do you want to go rummage through the vegetable cellar this afternoon? I'll go with you."
"Aren't you going to accompany your wife?" Fu Yuanshan said without even turning his head.
"It's important to rummage through the vegetable cellar." Fu Yucheng winked at Yun Tangyin, "After we're done, we can spend time with my wife. We can do both."
Yun Tangyin was amused by him and picked up a small cabbage and walked towards the kitchen: "I'll pickle the kimchi first, so I can send it to the educated youth this afternoon."
Fu Yucheng hurried over: "I'll light the fire for you."
Yun Tangyin's face felt as hot as if it had been roasted by the stove fire. She lowered her head and continued to cut the ginger into shreds.
Fu Yucheng's voice came from the stove door, carrying the warmth of firewood, "With you, mom, my second brother and his wife, the whole family is together, which is the best life."
His sudden words made everyone feel a little bewildered. Yun Tangyin poured the prepared sauce into the cabbage, and her nose suddenly felt sore: "Hurry up and add some firewood, the water should be boiling."
As he was speaking, Song Yushuang walked in, lifting the door curtain and asking, "What good thing smells so good?"
"I'm making spicy cabbage for the educated youth." Yun Tangyin put the cabbage into the jar, "Mom, please taste it and see if it's salty enough."
Song Yushuang pinched a piece and put it in his mouth, smacking his lips: "Just right! With Yinyin's skills, it would be a pity if she didn't go to the supply and marketing cooperative to be a master."
"Mom is making fun of me again." Yun Tangyin covered the jar. "When it's fermented, I'll mix it with noodles for you."
"That would be great." Song Yushuang glanced into the stove. "Acheng, after you finish searching the vegetable cellar this afternoon, go to your uncle's house. He asked someone to bring back a bag of dried sweet potatoes. Go and get it."
"Okay, I'll tell my second brother right away." Fu Yucheng added the last handful of firewood to the stove and patted the ashes on his hands. "Wife, I'm going to the vegetable cellar first. I'll come back to help you pack the kimchi after I get the dried sweet potatoes."
Yun Tangyin stood up and wiped her hands on her apron: "Go slowly on the road. Oh, and take this with you."
She took out two freshly steamed buns from the basket, wrapped them in cloth and stuffed them into Fu Yucheng's hand, "Take some for him too."
"My wife is really thoughtful." Fu Yucheng pinched her cheek, turned around and walked out. Just as he reached the gate, he ran into Fu Yuanshan carrying a shovel and came out. "Second brother, Mom asked me to go to my uncle's house this afternoon to get some dried sweet potatoes. You keep an eye on the work in the vegetable cellar. I'll be back soon."
Fu Yuanshan nodded and said, "Go ahead. I'll clean up the vegetable cellar first. The sooner you go, the sooner you can come back."
After Fu Yucheng left, Yun Tangyin divided the pickled kimchi into two jars. Jiang Jianhua came over to look at them and said, "This jar is really beautiful. Is it the one you exchanged from the supply and marketing cooperative last time?"
"Well, I thought the porcelain was good at the time, so I bought two more." Yun Tangyin closed the lid of the jar tightly. "Second sister-in-law, please help me move this jar to the wing room. I'll deliver it to the educated youth later."
"Let me do it." Jiang Jianhua reached out to hug her, but was stopped by Yun Tangyin.
"Let me do it. You washed so many clothes this morning. Take a break." Yun Tangyin picked up the jar and walked towards the wing room. "By the way, sister-in-law, if you have nothing to do this afternoon, you and mom can go out and bask in the sun. I'll finish the rest of the work."
Jiang Jianhua smiled and nodded: "You always take all the work on yourself, don't you still have your sister-in-law?"
As she was speaking, Song Yushuang sat on a stone bench in the yard, holding a basin of needlework. "Yinyin, come and help me thread the needle. I don't know what's wrong. I can't even see the eye of the needle clearly."
Yun Tangyin hurried over, took the needle and thread, and threaded it skillfully: "Mom, you should take a break. There is no rush for these tasks."
"It's okay. While the weather is good, I'll finish mending these shoes and give them to Yuanzheng." Song Yushuang picked up the soles. "Your elder brother has very bad shoes. The pair he wore the other day wore out within a few days."
Yun Tangyin looked at the soles in her hands, which were densely stitched. "Mom, your craftsmanship is better than the shoemakers at the supply and marketing cooperative. When I'm done with this, I'll learn how to sew soles from you."
"If you want to learn, I'll teach you." Song Yushuang smiled until her eyes narrowed into slits. "But your hands are for accounting. It took me a lifetime to learn this."
While they were talking, Fu Yucheng had already arrived at his uncle's house.
My uncle was chopping wood in the yard. When he saw him come in, he quickly put down his axe and said, "Acheng is here. Come in and sit down."
"Uncle, I won't sit down anymore. Mom asked me to get some dried sweet potatoes." Fu Yucheng handed over the cloth bag in his hand. "This is the steamed bread Yinyin made for you. It's still hot."
My uncle took the cloth bag, opened it and smelled it: "Yinyin is a sensible child. She knows that I like to eat this. The dried sweet potatoes are piled in the corner of the east room. Go and move them yourself. I'll find a rope to tie them up for you."
Fu Yucheng walked into the east room and saw a bag full of dried sweet potatoes piled in the corner, emitting a sweet fragrance.
He picked up the bag and walked out. His uncle had already found a rope and said, "Carry it slowly, don't hurt your waist."
"It's okay, uncle, I'm still strong." Fu Yucheng tied the dried sweet potatoes to the back seat of the bicycle, "Uncle, I'm leaving first. My family is waiting for me to work."
"Wait a minute." The uncle took out a small bag of peanuts from the house and stuffed it into his hand. "This is for Yinyin to take back. It's also a blessing for you two to have a baby soon."
Fu Yucheng took the peanuts and said, "Thank you, uncle. I thank you on behalf of Yinyin."
"Why are you being so polite to me?" The uncle patted his shoulder. "Go back and tell your mother to come visit when she has time. I've saved some freshly picked persimmons for her."
"Okay, I'll definitely bring it over." Fu Yucheng got on his bicycle and said, "Uncle, I'm leaving now."
When Fu Yucheng returned home, Yun Tangyin was turning over and drying radishes in the yard.
He unloaded the dried sweet potatoes and called out, "Wife, I'm back."
Yun Tangyin raised her head, her face covered in dust, like a little cat. "Are you back? Did you get the dried sweet potatoes?"
"I got it. My uncle also brought you some peanuts." Fu Yucheng took some peanuts out of his pocket and handed them to her, then reached out to wipe the dust off her face. "Are you tired? Let me help you look for it."
