Chapter 111 This is what a family looks like

Fu Yucheng stuffed the hawthorn into his mouth, grimacing at the sourness, but he still forced himself to say, "How is it sour? I think it's just right."

Before he could finish his words, the intercom in his pocket suddenly rang, and the staff officer's voice came out in a split second: "Orders from above, urgent assembly! There's a pipe burst at the Jiangbei dike!"

Yun Tangyin's hand suddenly slammed into the sink, and foam flowed down the edge of the bowl.

She looked at Fu Yucheng with a stunned expression.

"I have to go." He suddenly grabbed her hand and pulled it against his chest. The metal buckle on the holster hurt her palm. "Yinyin, folic acid is on the second layer of the medicine box. Remember to take one pill every day."

"I know." She stood on tiptoe to button his shirt, her fingertips brushing against his red earlobe. "Just take care of yourself. I'll wait for you at home."

Fu Yucheng stuffed a hot water bottle into her pocket, which he had just filled that morning. "The eldest sister-in-law will come to bring you dumplings at noon, and the second sister-in-law said she made black chicken soup for you. If you are scared at night, let them come and sleep with you."

"You're the one who's scared." Yun Tangyin pushed him, her eyes warm. "Send me a telegram when you get there. Don't make me guess."

"Sure." Fu Yucheng suddenly turned around and ran into the house. When he came back, he was holding the pair of silver longevity locks in his hand and pressed them into her palm.

Yun Tangyin knew how busy Fu Yucheng had been recently.

When the military vehicle engine exploded outside the yard, Yun Tangyin was still standing on the threshold, holding the hot longevity lock in her hand.

Snowflakes fell on the lock and melted into tiny water droplets, like someone's tears.

Before she could come to her senses, the courtyard door was pushed open, and Yuxia came in on the snow, holding a food box in her hand: "Yinyin, these are freshly made dumplings. Ah Cheng has been busy recently, so come and talk to me when you have nothing to do."

Jiang Jianhua followed closely behind, carrying a cloth bag on his arm: "Yes, isn't that how sisters-in-law get along? Now it depends on who gets pregnant first, you or the eldest sister-in-law."

Yun Tangyin suddenly laughed out loud and handed the longevity lock to them: "There's nothing to worry about yet, but I've prepared this first, so that my two sisters-in-law can laugh at me."

Yu Xia touched the pattern on the lock and suddenly smiled: "It's not like I haven't mentioned it before."

Jiang Jianhua opened the cloth bag, and inside was a newly made cotton vest: "He asked me to make this for you. He said you always like to go to the cellar. There's no heating in that room, so wearing this will keep you warm."

As she was speaking, Yun Tangyin's pocket suddenly felt a pang. She fished it out and saw that it was Fu Yucheng's notebook. The last page read, "Ask my sister-in-law to teach me how to make it. Use twice as much sugar."

There was another burst of laughter at the gate, and Song Yushuang came in wrapped in a mink scarf. "Hey, what are you whispering about?"

Song Yushuang took off her snow-stained scarf, placed the food box on the table, and opened the lid to reveal steaming hot brown sugar steamed cakes. "I just heard you laughing at the entrance of the alley. I guess you were talking about that kid Ah Cheng."

Yun Tangyin quickly took the food box, her fingertips touching the hot porcelain wall: "Why is Mom here? It's so cold."

"Is it okay if you don't come?" Song Yushuang tapped her forehead. "Acheng called me before he got on the bus and asked me to watch you eat breakfast because he was worried you'd forget the time when you were busy."

She glanced at the longevity locks on the table and suddenly laughed out loud, "I recognize this pair of locks. They were made by the old silversmith I asked someone to find. He gave them to you first."

Yu Xia added a piece of coal to the stove: "Mom, you don't know, even the baby's bed was turned out. It's said that he slept in it when he was a child. It's sturdy."

"That's right." Jiang Jianhua came over, "I even asked the bedding factory to make two small quilts with dragon and phoenix designs, just in case you get twins."

Yun Tangyin's face flushed red, and she stuffed the longevity lock into the brocade box: "Stop making fun of me, he's just worrying about nothing."

"It's good to worry." Song Yushuang picked up a steamed cake and stuffed it into her hand. "That's what a man should be like. Only when he has his family in his heart does he count. The other day I went to see Mrs. Li. Her husband hadn't been home for half a year and she almost forgot what her child looked like."

As they were talking, the sound of a bicycle bell rang out from outside the courtyard gate. Guard Xiao Chen came in carrying a large cardboard box, and the snow on the brim of his hat fell off. "Sister-in-law, Brother Fu asked me to bring this to you. He said you would like it after seeing it."

When I opened the box, I saw a brand new radio with a few tapes next to it.

Yun Tangyin picked up the tape and saw that it was all piano music. She suddenly remembered what Fu Yucheng said, "Listen to piano music during the second trimester of pregnancy," and her face turned red again.

"This silly boy." Song Yushuang touched the radio casing. "I saw this radio in the department store last time. He said the sound quality was good and insisted on buying it for you to cheer you up. I even said he didn't understand your thoughts."

Yu Xia suddenly clapped her hands. "Oh, Yinyin, there are so many hawthorns. I'll make you candied haws. They say that if you add twice as much sugar, it won't be sour. Let's do it now?"

Yun Tangyin nodded and was about to move the hawthorn box when Jiang Jianhua stopped her: "Let me and my sister-in-law do it."

Song Yushuang sat by the side, watching the three women busy around the stove, and suddenly laughed: "This is what a family looks like."

Yun Tangyin paused with the bamboo stick in her hand: "Mom, aren't things getting better and better now?"

"Yes, Mom." Yu Xia put the skewered hawthorns into the sugar pot. "When Ah Cheng comes back, our family will have a lively New Year's celebration. If Yin Yin gets pregnant by then, it will be a double blessing."

Jiang Jianhua scooped a spoonful of syrup onto the cold plate. He didn't say anything, but what he was thinking was...

If only she could get pregnant too.

But for someone like Fu Yuanshan, Jiang Jianhua no longer wants to think too much and just makes do with it.

Yun Tangyin listened to them talking one after another, and suddenly felt that the longevity lock in her hand was not so heavy anymore.

The snow was still falling, and the aroma of sugar mixed with the sweetness of steamed cakes in the house was so warm that it made people shiver in their hearts.

Jiang Jianhua spread a thin layer of syrup on the cold plate and suddenly chuckled softly: "If Yinyin gives birth, I will give her my pair of silver bracelets as a wedding gift."

Song Yushuang was eating melon seeds and suddenly pointed out the window: "Look, the snow has stopped."

The sunlight filtered through gaps in the clouds, giving the snow a golden glow.

There was snow piled on the old locust tree outside the courtyard gate, and when the wind blew, the snow fell down like a handful of silver coins.

"This weather is perfect for drying quilts." Yu Xia wiped her hands, "I'll move Yinyin's new quilt to the yard to dry it in the sun. You can use it to keep warm when Ah Cheng comes back."

Yun Tangyin was about to respond when she saw Jiang Jianhua suddenly cover his mouth and run towards the toilet, staggering and almost falling on the threshold.

Yu Xia hurried over and came back with a handkerchief in her hand: "I'm afraid he caught a cold. He was saying he felt dizzy just now."

Song Yushuang frowned and added a piece of coal to the stove: "I told you not to drink cold water all the time, but you just wouldn't listen."

She turned around and rummaged through the medicine cabinet in the cupboard. "Where's the ginger tea I bought for you the other day? Make it quickly."

Jiang Jianhua drank the ginger tea, his face gradually reddening. "It's nothing, really. Maybe I just felt a little nauseous when I smelled the sugar."

As she spoke, she moved closer to Yun Tangyin and said, "Isn't it strange? I used to hate sweet things, but today, after smelling the aroma of these candied haws, I feel a little greedy."

Yun Tangyin's heart moved, and she suddenly remembered what Doctor Zhang said, and quietly pulled the corner of Yuxia's clothes.

Yu Xia understood and added another spoonful of brown sugar to Jiang Jianhua's bowl: "Drink more, and you'll be fine after sweating a little."
